→ Would you like to 부정사~? How about ~ing?/ What do you say to ~ing?는 「~은 어떤가요, ~ 하시지 않으렵니까, ~에 대해서는 어떻게 생각하나요」로 상대방의 의견이나 권위쯤을 나타내고 있다.
→「주말에」 at the weekend/ this weekend 「저녁 식사」 supper
→ Have supper나 come to dinner의 경우 관사를 붙이지 않는다. 그러나 어떤 특정한 저녁 식사를 말할 경우, 예를 들면, That was a delicious supper 인 경우는 관사를 붙인다. (Go to [school]과 visit [the school]의 관사의 유무도 위와 마찬가지이다.)

이미 저질러진 일을 두고 말할 때는 have(has) +
과거분사(현재 완료형)를 쓰고 현재 일어나고 있는
일을 두고 말할 때는 be + 동사 +ing(현재 진행형)을 쓴다.
go too far대신 carry it too far.라는 표현을 써도
역시 '너무했다'는 뜻이 된다.

"볼링 치러 갈 겁니다."라는 뜻. '(여가)를 즐기러 가다'라는
영어 표현에서 한국인들은 'play+종목'의 구문을 남용하는
경우가 상당히 많다. 하지만 미국인들은 '종목'을 동명사로,
그리고 '하다'를 'go'로 써서 'go -ing'라고 한다.
만약 악기를 연주한다면 'play+the+악기', 선수로서
운동한다면 'play+종목'이다.

는 미국인들이 땅을 차지하기위해 몰려갔다. 비교해서 'pull up stakes'라
는 표현이었다. '말뚝을 뽑다'로 되어있는 이 표현은 '떠나기 위해 준비하다
'라는 뜻을 가진다.

◆ prefer, would rather
Prefer 와 would rather 서로 교환하여 사용될 수 있는 표현입니다. 우리가 일반적으로 선호하는 것에 대한 표현을 쓸 때 prefer를 사용합니다. 하지만 대체로 - ing가 뒤에 따라온다는데 유의해야 합니다.
I prefer listening to music to watching TV.
I'd rather listen to music than watch TV. 'd rather
그리고, 만일 특정한 선택에 대해 말할 땐, would rather은 to 부정사를 수반한 would prefer to를 쓸 수 있어요.
하지만 'd rather 회화체에서는 더 많이 쓰이며 모든 인칭에 다 쓰이는 장점이 있습니다.

Would you like to go out for dinner tonight? ~ No, I think I'd rather eat at home / I'd prefer to eat at home.
