(ANS 1) "Nothing is more pleasant than traveling." goes an old saying, and even today a great number of people still believe it to be true. To take a journey to strange places and become friendly with the people and familiar with their way of life may well bring us one of the greatest pleasures we can ever experience in our lives.

☞ 'GET ALONG'의 의미가 참 많군요. 참고로 한 번 정리를 하겠습니다.
1) (of person) to continue, often in spite of difficultie, manage.
Ex) I'm sure we can GET ALONG well without him.
2) to advance

3) + with - to form or have a friendly relationship
Ex) Do you GET ALONG WITH him?

너가 무슨 말을 하는지 모르겠다.
* 미국인들이 쓰는 회화에서 You've lost me.라는게 있는데
'너는 나를 잃어 버렸다.' 즉 '너와 나는 끝장이다.'는 뜻일거라고
생각할지도 모른다. 그러나 이와는 달리 '니가 무슨 말을 하는지
모르겠다'는 말이다. 그러니까 I don't understand. 또는
I don't know what you are talking about. 또는
I don't get(or dig) it. 또는 I don't follow you.등과 같은 말이다.
You are talking over my head.란 말은 글자 그대로 해석하면
'네 말은 너무 어려워서 못 알아듣겠다'는 말인데 여기서 head를
신체적 의미의 '머리'가 아니라 정신적인 의미의 '머리' 다시
말하면 '머리가 좋다'고 할 때의 '머리' 즉 '지능 수준'으로
생각하면 '너는 내 지능 수준 이상으로 말하고 있다.'가 되어
우리말 '네 말은 너무 어려워 못 알아듣겠다.'는 말이 된다.
이 말은 약간 빈정대는 뜻으로 흔히 쓰이는 말이므로
점잖은 상대에게 함부로 쓰면 않 된다. 예를 들어 비즈니스
얘기를 하는데 미국 사람이 어려운 단어를 많이 써서 알아듣기가
곤란하다. 이럴 때 I don't follow you very well. 또는
Would you mind using simpler words?
'좀 더 쉬운 말을 써 주실수 있겠습니까?' 라고 말하는
것이 좋다. 어떤 영화를 봤는데 무슨 뜻인지 잘 모르겠다.
이럴 때 This movie is over my head. '이 영화는 내 지능수준
위에 있다.' 즉 '이 영화는 어려워서 모르겠다.' 는 말이 된다.
It's beyond me도 I don't understand.와 같은 뜻으로 쓰인다.
I can't do it.과 같은 뜻으로 쓰이기도 한다.

: 가방 좀 차에 실어요. 금방 나갈께요.

≫ Well, get the bags in the car. I'll be right out.
-> It means "pack the car, put the bags in the car"
-> 미국의 주유소에서는 의무적으로 대중화장실이 개방되었다고
합니다.

【1】 chicken : 겁장이(coward);애송이
우리의 언어환경에서는 닭은 좀 모자란 것에 비유되기도 하고 여
자들에 비유되는데 영어에서도 비슷한 어감을 갖는다. chick는
병아리란 뜻외에 일반적으로 '계집애,소녀'를 지칭한다. 물론 마
약의 일종인 heroin을 뜻하기도 한다. chicken은 겁많고 아직은
미숙하다는 어감이 있다.
이밖에 chicken에 관련된 속어적 표현은 많다.
chicken feed : 하찮은 돈,작은 돈(small change or peanuts)
chicken-hearted : cowardly, timid
chicken out : 겁내서 그만두다.(to manage to get out of some-
thing, usually because of fear or cowardice)
spring chicken : 나이어린 경험없는 사람(주로 부정적 의미)
이 말은 우리가 쓰는 '영계'와 거의 같은 뜻.
Ex) Who's the chick driving the ragtop?
Come on, let's go. Don't be a chicken.

그와는 죽이 잘 안 맞는다
'죽이 맞다'는 get on well with -이면 된다.
이것과 비숫한 표현에 '그녀와 잘 지내고 있니?'의 "Are you getting
alongwith her?"가 있다.
이 get along 에는 또한 '성적이 좋다'의 의미도 있다.
'그는 학교성적이 좋다'도 He is getting along at school. 이지만 "He
is an A student." 라는 표현도 있다.
이런 경우의 A는 '優'라는 의미이다.
...역례...I don't get on well with him.
I don't hit it off very well with him.

The boomerang, a light, thin, and well-balanced missile, was the very first Australian invention.
It could be thrown into the air to imitate a hawk, causing birds to get frightened and fly into nets where they were caught.
However, boomerangs were mostly used in competitions between native tribes.
The idea was to see who could make the boomerang do the most circles in flight before it returned to the thrower's feet.
Today the boomerang is used by college lecturers to demonstrate the principles of aerodynamics.

Personal qualities are personal characteristics of an individual.
They are what make up one's personality.
They help a person get along in a new situation.
For example, trust and patience are qualities that employers would like a good worker to have.
Other qualities employers value are:
honesty, flexibility, problem solving, friendliness, intelligence, leadership, enthusiasm, and a good sense of humor.
Most employers want people who are dependable and who get along with others.
Though skills are important, an employer will select new employees based on their personal qualities as well.

A large part of the influence of money and education on happiness comes
from one's original expectations. If you thought you would earn a lot,
perhaps because of extensive education, and did, you may have a "so what?"
attitude. But if your expectations have been overfulfilled, the happiness

obvious. Thus the happiest groups are those with little education who
earn a lot; while the highly educated who earn a lot are not so well off psychologically.

David was a young man who worked in an office in a big city. His hobby

The first morning after he arrived, he walked to the nearest stream
with his fishing-rod.
He saw an old man with his rod standing beside the water.
David said to him, "Good morning, sir. Is this a private stream?"
The old man answered that it was not.
David said, "Why don't you fish here with me, sir?"
The old man answered with a smile, "I should like to, but I'm sorry I can't."
David then said, "Well, it won't be a crime if I catch some fish here,
will it?"
"Oh, no," answered the old man, "it won't be a crime, but it will
certainly be a miracle."

The following story is told of Prince Bismarck.
A famous English diplomatist, while calling upon the Prince one day, asked
him how he managed to get rid of the class of visitors whom he didn't like

"Oh," replied the chancellor, "I have got a very simple method. My wife
knows them pretty well, and, when she sees they are with me, she generally
contrives to come in and call me away on some pretext or other."
He had scarcely done speaking when the princess put her head in at the
door and said: "Otto, you must come and take your medicine. You ought
to have taken it ten minutes ago."

"I didn't get a chance. He asked me first."

My memory is going, but I don't miss it that much. The nice thing is that
