→ 여행만큼 즐거운 것은 없다: ① Nothing is more pleasant than traveling; ② Nothing gives us more pleasure than traveling.
→ 옛날부터 일러 왔다: goes an old saying that; as an old saying goes~
Few people are against it.
→ 미지의 곳을 방문하다: travel to strange places
→ 그곳 사람들의 인정이나 풍습에 젖어 보다: get friendly with the people there and get friendly with their was of life; get friendly and familiar with the people there and their customs and manners.
(ANS 1) "Nothing is more pleasant than traveling." goes an old saying, and even today a great number of people still believe it to be true. To take a journey to strange places and become friendly with the people and familiar with their way of life may well bring us one of the greatest pleasures we can ever experience in our lives.
(ANS 2) "Nothing gives us more pleasure than traveling." as an old saying goes. Even these days few people are against it. Indeed, it is one of the highest joys we can get out of life to travel to strange places and get friendly and familiar with the people there and their customs and manners.

You will pay for it!
* You won't get away with this!
'너 나중에 두고 보자'란 뜻이다. won't는 will not의 준말인데
그리고 I'll get even.
된다. get even은 '똑같이 된다.'
Let's wait and see. 또는
It remains to be seen

I want to return your favor
get even또는 make(someone) pay for something이라고 표현한다.
Someday I'll get even with you.

Having lived through it, I can now say this to you with a bit more certainty than when death was a useful but purely intellectual concept:
No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there.
And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it.
And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life.

Her little feet she had drawn close up to her,
but she grew colder and colder, and to go home
she did not venture, for she had not sold any
matches and could not bring a farthing of money:
from her father she would certainly get blows,
and at home it was cold too, for above her
she had only the roof, through which the wind
whistled, even though the largest cracks
were stopped up with straw and rags.

The jobs that most companies are doing with information today would have been impossible several years ago.
At that time, getting rich information was very expensive,
and the tools for analyzing it weren't even available until the early 1990s.
But now the tools of the digital age give us a way to easily get, share, and act on information in new ways.

Millions of law-abiding Americans are physically addicted to caffeine, and most of them don't even know it.
People who drink coffee several times a day for years are likely to be addicted by caffeine.
When deprived of their caffeine, addicts experience often severe symptoms such as a throbbing headache and depression.
As with other addictive drugs, heavy users require higher doses to get the expected effect.

Several years ago we bought a huge house, more than 200 years old.
In the house there was a room with a very old piano in it.
It was out of tune.
Most of the keys didn't even work.
One night, I was in the house alone.
Suddenly I heard piano music.
It was in perfect tune, coming from the piano room.
To get to the room, I had to go through several unlit rooms and hallways.
I couldn't bring myself to do it.
After a few minutes, the music stopped.
Then my dad came home.
We went to the room.
I tried to play the piano―it was totally out of tune as it had always been.

The following suggestions may be helpful in dealing with identical twins.
First, remember that twins are individuals.
On holidays and birthdays, they deserve separate gifts, cards and recognition.
Second, make a genuine effort to tell twins apart.
Even though they may look very much alike, there are some distinguishing features that you can identify if you are willing to try.
Last but not least, don't assume that twins like the same things, or that they want to be together all the time.
Spending time with each twin separately will help you get to know them as individuals and make telling them apart easier.

"The minute you climb in, you start feeling excited.
There's nothing so exciting for me, not even a jet plane.
You get in and start up and off you go.
And then you've got to pay attention every minute.
There's always someone doing something crazy who's likely to end up under your wheels.
I sometimes think it's a miracle if I can get all the way there with no accidents.
You've always got to be thinking ahead.
There's a lot of people in this job who have stomach problems from the tension.

They lose their hearing too, because of the noise.
You've got to be tough on this job, you know."

I've tried everything I can think of to make him get up.
I've set my own alarm clock and gotten up with him, I've duck-taped the "on/off" switch on his clock so he must use the snooze button instead, and even tried letting him suffer the consequences of getting up late.
That hasn't worked either.

Supermarket managers have all kinds of tricks to encourage people to spend more money.
Their aim is to make customers go more slowly through the supermarket.
They place colorful displays in surprising places to catch the customers' attention.
They also make the corridors near the cash registers more narrow.
Then customers with large shopping carts will get stuck or have to slow down.
In some supermarkets, the floor is even slightly uphill for people going towards the exits.
Managers hope that when customers slow down, they will buy a few extra items.

"We say that the universe is expanding."
"What makes it do that?"
"Most astronomers agree that the expanding universe can only have one explanation: Once upon a time, about 15 billion years ago, all substance in the universe was assembled in a relatively small area.
The substance was so dense that gravity made it terrifically hot.
Finally it got so hot and so tightly packed that it exploded.
We call this explosion the Big Bang."
"Just the thought of it makes me shudder."
"The Big Bang caused all the substance in the universe to be expelled in all directions, and as it gradually cooled, it formed stars and galaxies and moons and planets..."
"But I thought you said the universe was still expanding?"
"Yes I did, and it's expanding precisely because of this explosion billions of years ago.
The universe has no timeless geography.
The universe is a happening.
The universe is an explosion.
Galaxies continue to fly through the universe away from each other at colossal speeds."
"Will they go on doing that for ever?"
"That's one possibility.
But there is another.
You may recall that Alberto told Sophie about the two forces that cause the planets to remain in constant orbit round the sun?"
"Weren't they gravity and inertia?
"Right, and the same thing applies to the galaxies.
Because even though the universe continues to expand, the force of gravity is working the other way.
And one day, in a couple of billion years, gravity will perhaps cause the heavenly bodies to be packed together again as the force of the huge explosion begins to weaken.
Then we would get a reverse explosion, a so-called implosion.
But the distances are so great that it will happen like a movie that is run in slow motion.
You might compare it with what happens when you release the air from a balloon."
"Will all the galaxies be drawn together in a tight nucleus again?"
"Yes, you've got it.
But what will happen then?"
"There would be another Big Bang and the universe would start expanding again.
Because the same natural laws are in operation.
And so new stars and galaxies will form."

I don't wake up even with an alarm clock.
Sometimes I hear the buzzing, but I often sleep right through it.

I was at the time much taken with a young person of extravagant tastes,
and the gratification of my desires was frustrated by the attentions of
more opulent admirers who were able to provide the luxuries that her
frivolous soul hankered after.
I had nothing much to offer but a serious disposition and a sense of humor.
I determined to write a book that would enable me to earn three or four
hundred pounds with which I could hold my own with my rivals.
For the young person was attractive. But even if you work hard it takes
a long time to write a novel; you have to get it published; then publishers
do not pay you till many months have elapsed.
The result was that by the time I received the money the passion that I had
thought would last for ever was extinct and I had no longer the slightest
wish to spend it in the way I had intended. I went to Egypt on it.

How could you not get it? You were Santa last year.

I don't even know what you want me to go along with. Is this some fraternity stunt?

You won't say anything to Nicole about Keith, will you?
We don't even know whether Maureen Kingsley's going to go forward with the story.
- I have to, Sherry.
- Why?
Because the press is gonna get a hold of this, whether it's today, tomorrow or next week.

No, I'm not sure, but I don't think it's about money.
- My dad's gonna get us out. - He doesn't even know where we are.
It doesn't matter. He'll find us.

What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? Ow! You're gonna kill me right here?
I have no choice. They have Kim and Teri.
How do you know they won't kill them even if you do this?
- I can't take that chance.
- What about me?
Enough chitchat. Just do it. Kimberly's dead if you don't do it!

I don't understand the rationale behind it. No, listen to me. Why?
Why defend something that you don't need to defend?
Maureen won't come out with the story today.
- She will. - We don't know that.
Look, if not now, tomorrow.
If not her, someone else. Our son is accused of murder.
The story's too big to hide.
He's right, Sherry. We need to control when and how this story comes out.
One hour ago someone tried to kill my husband.
That bought us time and we should use it.
The assassination attempt might even work for us if we break the story about Keith.
It might put the public in a more forgiving frame of mind.
- You're making a mistake. - It's mine to make.
No, it isn't, David, because you didn't get here by yourself.
Do not go against me on this, Sherry.
Promise me.
I can't promise you anything.

That's the job.
Yeah. I know it.
You start making deals with the devil,
you don't get to walk away.
- You understand what I'm saying? - Yeah.
Momentary lapse.

Hey, Warrick you got a second?
What's up?
I got this hair that you guys found this morning
and I'm trying to compare it to the one hair we recovered from the murder last week the Hayes girl?
And you got a match microscopically but it doesn't mean a damn thing
'cause it still doesn't lead us to the guy?
No. I can't even tell if we have a DNA match.
There's no skin tag on either one.

Mm. Why do I even let you out of the house?
Obviously, I can't let her get away with this.
The only thing to do is go to the police and tell them what happened.
You can't do that.
Julie, I don't think they'll throw me in jail.
I mean, it was an accident.
Dad won't care if it was an accident.
You know he'll just use this as an excuse to reopen custody.

Mrs. Solis. What are you doing?
Why haven't you returned any of my phone calls?
I've been busy.
Yeah, I-I've seen who you've been busy with.

Why is that such a shock even George managed to get some action.
Correction, George got some syphilis. How could I not know you were sleeping with someone?
Forget this. / Joe.

These are my parents.
Hi. What's going on?

We can't wait another moment. With a tumor this aggressive, even waiting another day puts you at risk for permanent paralysis.

Well, should I just go home?

Besides, if I'm not going home, nobody's going home.
Ten years of marriage. I didn't even get to finish my damn lobster.

I did my hair. I had one night off in two weeks

And what do I get? Nothing.
No respect, no apology...
you couldn't even be bothered to kiss me good night.

How is he?
Well, surgery's scheduled for tomorrow, so...
Is there anything I can do?

Don't let him drink any water, even if he begs.
Is there any family we should contact, friends? No.

He doesn't really get along well with most people.

So you think the '60s radicals and the Tea Party are roughly the same?
With one big exception.
Even at the height of 1968,
the Democrats wouldn't have nominated Abbie Hoffman
or Jerry Rubin for any office
and no candidate would have sought their endorsement.
Can you imagine Humphrey or Kennedy
standing for a photo op with Bernardine Dohrn or Allen Ginsberg?
- Get there. - Oh!
- I didn't even know you were here. - Get there.

How do you feel about that?
Her? How do you feel about her?
- I don't feel the same way. - You don't?
I like her. She's really nice
and really funny and incredibly sexy.
Really very sexy with the sexiness that--
- I get it. - And I like the new expression.
- It's a gas. - Don't even.
- But I don't love her. - You don't?
No.

When Brian started calling her again,
she saw the chance to get unrejected and she took it.
You weren't even part of the equation.
But once she got unrejected, she realized
that she wasn't in love with Brian in the first place,
that she was in love with you, and she confessed the whole thing.
- Not right away. - Who cares about not right away?

Yeah, I can't live with a 15-year-old girl being the toughest guy at my desk.
- Are you talking about Lisa? - Yeah.
- She's 26. - They all look 15 to me. Sloan.
- Are you sure about this? - Not at all.
- Yeah? - If I ask you the right questions,
can you talk about the debt ceiling for two segments tonight?
- I don't even need the questions. - Get ready.

Did you know that Maggie and Don are moving in together,
even though Maggie should be with Jim and Don should be with Sloan?
How many lives must you ruin before you'll get out of the life-ruining business?
It's a cautionary tale.
Maggie is now with the wrong man.
- It's not gonna last. - Because true love always wins?
Yeah.

DEAR ABBY: I *participate in a support group for families of
teens in *residential treatment. Many of our teens are making
new choices. Among them is the choice of *chastity until
marriage, even though they may have had sex *prior to the
program. These teens are *glowing and *radiant in their
*newfound personal power. We are helping them learn how to
*heal families and meet new challenges in their lives.

▲ chastity: state of keeping away from all sexual life;정숙, 순결
▲ prior to: before: 보다 전에.
▲ glow: to shine with a soft, steady light : 반짝이다.
▲ radiant: very bright: 빛나는.
▲ heal: get healthy again;

[John's Diary]
It was passed the rush hour and they must have increased the
train intervals. It would take much longer than usual to get
to the theater, I thought. Shit! The theater was just a stop
away. What a day! Wasted time and money for nothing! At this
point I began to think that I should have tried running to
the theater. After about 10 minutes, I heard the next train
pulling in. People didn't bother to line up and stormed
towards the train. The PA system cranked out a warning to get
on the train in an orderly fashion, but that didn't prevent
the fat lady behind me from jumping the line and forcing her
way through the crowd.
1. It was passed the rush hour:
지났다고 할 때 It is passed ~를 씁니다.
2. They must have increased the train intervals: Train
