This is because he may probably become unable to command the whole work if he gets personally involved in any specific aspect of it.

Question : Are police fair to minorities?
James : Most police do treat minorities fairly.
If one officer makes a mistake, you can read about it everywhere.
Yet, thousands of police ―black, white, men, women―have been killed over the past years.
Betty : Blacks are not treated fairly.
Blacks have been in this country more than 400 years.
Yet, we are still treated as undesirables who should pack their bags and go back to Africa.
That is why we get no respect from the police.
Joe : Most of the time we forget that police are, in fact, people.
And they react in the same way we react.
On the whole they are doing a fine job.
Betty :

We probably all have discovered, at some time or another in our lives, the treasure hidden beneath a seeming misfortune, the silver lining behind the cloud, the blessing in disguise.

In other words, by expecting these things to deliver lasting delight, we are setting ourselves up for a fall.

The most serious threat to a person's progress arises from his efforts to
keep safe in his job, to see to it that he doesn't make mistakes.
Sometimes when we adopt "safe" attitudes we tell ourselves that we don't
disagree with the boss because we are loyal to him and the organization.
Far be it from me to belittle loyalty, but I would rather have a little
disagreement. I'd rather have someone give me an argument. Let us
remember that two men in an organization think exactly alike, we can
get along without one of them.

All of my studies indicate that a decided majority of the Americans are
dissatisfied with their jobs and wish they were doing something else.
What about you? Is your job work or fun?
If it is work, then you would probably be wise to take immediate steps
to get out of it. Your life is too short and too valuable to waste in work.
If you don't get out now, you may end up like the frog that is placed
in a pot of fresh water on the stove. As the temperature in the pot
gradually increased, the frog feels restless and uncomfortable, but
not uncomfortable enough to jump out. Without being aware that a change
is taking place, he is gradually lulled into unconsciousness―boiled.

It would be costly not to use your language properly. Your language
influences others, and their reactions to you may be determined by it.
For example, your language use affects your teachers' attitudes toward
you. It affects your parents' responses to your requests. It can also
affect your friends' understanding of you and their feelings toward you.
It may even determine your ability to get a particular job or move to a
higher position in your workplace.

they would get the news early in the morning. Sometimes Sue woke up
feeling sick. However, she delivered the newspapers not to disappoint her

>>> The Boxer <<< Sung By Simon & Garfunkel
< Artist
Popular
Sound of Silence,
Scarborough Fair, Mrs.Robinson, The Boxer, Bridge Over
Troubled Water
Central Park

New

But the fighter still remains
-
* lay out - 정리하다(arrange),준비하다(prepare).
There were glasses laid out as though there was going to be a
party.
* clearing
a fighter by his trade
He follows the trade of fiction.
I'm a fixer by trade.(제 직업은 수리공입니다.)
* But the fighter still remains -
* I have squandered ......mumbles -
데 이 노래에 나오는 mumbles(의미없이 중얼거리는 말), 즉 확실하지
* for a pocketful... 의 for는 in exchange for (~과 교환하여) 정도
* Such are......jest - 앞 문장의 mumbles의 내용을 설명하는 말이다.
* Still, a man......rest -그럼에도불구하고(still) 이 권투선수는
이 노래를 만든 Paul Simon은 he 대신 'a man'이라는 표현을
* In the company of strangers -
못한 분위기 (the atmosphere is uncomfortable).
When a man does something wrong and can't take responsibility,
all he can do is running scared.
(being inconspicuous).
* poorer quarter - 빈민가.
* "come on"......Avenue - 뉴욕시의 7번가는 Brooklyn 근처에 있는 홍
등가 (red light district)를 말하는데 여기에서의 "come on"은 매춘
" Hi baby, are you looking for something? Can I help you? Come
on,baby! "
* I do declare - 고백하건대(I confess).

The boxer
Simon & Garfunkel
I am just a poor boy

When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy

In the quiet of a railway station
Running scared, laying low,
Seeking out the poorer quarters

Looking for the places only they would know

Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers
Just a "come on" from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare there were times when I was so lonesome
I took some comfort there Ooo-la-la
Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
And wishing I was gone, going home
Where the New York City winters aren't bleeding me

a saturday night>
Hey man, I'm alive
I'm taking each day a night at a time
I'm feeling like a monday
But someday,I'll be a saturday night
Hey,my name is Jim
Where did I go wrong?
My life's a bargain basement
All the good thing's gone
I just can't hold the job
Where do I belong?
Been sleeping in my car
My dream is moved on
My name is Billy Jean.
My love is bought & sold
I'm only sixteen,I feel hundred years old
My foster daddy went took my innocence away
The street life isn't much better
I at least get in paid

Susan, an office worker, says, " I'll never get a raise, my boss doesn't value my work, so why should I work hard for nothing?"
She then tries to do just what is required for the job, makes no effort to show initiative, and refuses to work overtime.
Not surprisingly, her boss doesn't give her a raise at the end of the year.

As a result of the tighter job market, an increasing number of job seekers with strong academic backgrounds are showing interest in non-paying jobs.
According to a recent survey, one-third of job seekers would work without pay since they are desperate to gain employment experience in order to get a foot in the door.
The findings showed 32% of males and 37% of female job seekers said they would work without payment.
Despite the increasing numbers of job seekers who are willing to work as unpaid interns, the ratio of companies hiring interns or part-time employees as regular employees is still very low.

Hey, Joey. Hey, buddy.
So, how'd it go?
Ahhhhhh, I didn't get the job.
How could you not get it? You were Santa last year.
I dunno. Some fat guy's sleeping with the store manager.
He's not even jolly, it's all political.
So what are you gonna be?
Ah, I'm gonna be one of his helpers. It's just such a slap in the face, y'know?

Where were we?
Oh, OK... five card draw,
uh... jacks or better... nothing wild, everybody ante.
Look, Rachel, we don't have to do this.
Yes, we do.
Alright, check.
Check.
나도
I'm in for fifty cents.
Call.

I'm in.
I see your fifty cents... and I raise you...
five dollars.
I thought, uh... it was a fifty cent limit.
Well, I just lost a job, and I'd like to raise the bet five bucks. Does anybody have a problem with that?
- Not at all
Loser?
No, I fold.
What do you mean, you fold? Hey, come on! What is this? I thought that 'once the cards were dealt, I'm not a nice guy.'
I mean, what, were you just full of it?
I'm in.
받아
How many you want?
One.
한 장
Dealer takes two.
- What do you bet?
- I bet two dollars.
OK... see your two...
and I raise you twenty.
I see your twenty,
raise you twenty-five.
See your twenty-five...and...uh,
Monica, get my purse.
Rachel, there's nothing in it.
OK, then get me your purse.
OK, here you go. Good luck.
Thank you. I saw your twenty-five, and I raise you...
seven.
7!
...teen!
17!
Joey, I'm a little shy.
That's OK, Ross, you can ask me. What?
What do you need, what do you need?
Fifteen.
15
- Alright, here's ten.
- Here, I got five, I got five.
- Thank you.
- Good luck.
OK, I am calling your seventeen. What do you got?
Full house.
You got me.
- Ahhh, that's alright. Y'know, that's a tough hand to beat.
- I thought we had them!

I messed up. I'm fully aware.
But my job, it means everything to me,
and I know a good word from you would...
Look, I have nothing against you personally, Meechum,
but I can't get involved in these sort of affairs.
There's protocols and rules.

You're not getting it.
I can't afford to make investments.
$6 an hour puts my family on the street.
What, do you want me to work five jobs?
If you get a part-time job, that and the training program...

So to sum it up, Jack leaves his wife, shacks up with you for a while,
gets bored, and then moves back home, leaving you out in the cold.
My personal life is not your concern.
- It is if it affects your work.
- It doesn't affect my work.
How long have you been with the agency, Nina? Six years, seven?
Seven years.
I remember when you first joined. You were goin' places. Everybody knew it.
It hasn't quite happened for you yet, has it?
- You ever wonder why?
- I've done all right.
But you could have done so much better. You had a great reputation once.
You know what your reputation is now?
Jack's flunky. His lapdog.
This is your chance to get back on track, Nina.
He's a loose cannon. Rules don't apply to Jack Bauer.
He does what he wants when he wants, and he doesn't care whose life it affects.
He shot me with a trank gun, for God's sakes.
- You withheld information.
- I was following orders.
Maybe he's following orders you don't know about.
He violated lockdown, and he left you holding the bag.
If he cared about you, he wouldn't have put you in that position.
Let me ask you, would you have done that to him?
Fact is, I'm just asking you to do your job and tell me where he is.
I don't know.

So what did he say?
He says he won't talk to anybody except you.
So, can I go in?
Yeah.
그래
Thank you.
My colleague said you only wanted to speak to me.
Well, here I am. And guess what?
- Right now, you're speaking to everyone.
- What the hell is he doing?
- I thought we were going to talk alone.
- You killed a cop.
What you need to do right now is start telling me the truth.
- It was self-defence. You were chasing me.
What's he saying?
Go to hell! I'm done talking. Get this guy outta my face!
- You've got nothing. I want my lawyer! - Settle down.
- I'll take him. - Come on.
I want my phone call. You've got nothing! I want my phone call, now!
- Jack. Great job.
- He knows something.
- So are you gonna beat it out of him?
What's the plan, Jack? Hm? What's the plan?
Take a walk.
나가

- Is he good for his word? - What do you mean?
Is he going to pay me, let me go, if I do what he wants?
- Sure. - I don't know.
I get the feeling he doesn't like me. Here. Here you go.
Yeah. He gets uptight when he's on a job. But he's really pretty chilly.
- You do the job, you'll be OK.
- Cool.

What?
It's just that we have so much power in this job.
We use it to get the bad guys,
once in a while I'd like to help the good guys, like ...
Mr. Moore and his grandson.
And what, forget about little Renda Harris?
No,
아냐
what I am saying is...
putting James away isn't going to bring her back.
Mr. Moore is willing to do the time.
The victim's family gets closure.

I, uh, just want to say,
I really admire the gusto with which you approach your job.
Are you hitting on me, David?
