[比較] translation, version, paraphrase
the Authorized(or King James) Version(흠정성서)
A translation must be a paraphrase to be readable.(번역은 술술 읽을 수 있게 옮겨 놓은 것이어야 한다.)

In November, 1989, the television news announced that East Germans could now travel to the West.
People could get visas to cross the border between East and West.
Immediately people gathered at the Berlin Wall.
People started hacking at the wall with hammers and chisels.
The next day the police started demolishing the wall with bulldozers.
It was a momentous day for Germany and for the whole of Europe.
It was the end of a divided Germany.
It was also the beginning of the end of hostile relationships between East and West Europe.

Like animals, people also use different languages.
Each culture has its own words and symbols that are used by people within that culture to communicate with others in the same culture.
For example, a person living in Japan will use the Japanese language to communicate with other Japanese.
Unlike animals though, some cultures use more than one language.
People within these cultures are said to be either bilingual or multilingual.
One such place is Canada.
It is very likely that a person living in Canada may speak both French and English.
Likewise, a person living in Switzerland may speak Italian, German and French.

I recall watching Das Boot as originally distributed in the U.S.―in German, with English subtitles.
It was a fabulous movie, and I thought the actors' native German language contributed substantially to the feeling of compelling unreality that gave the movie such a powerful effect.
I enthusiastically took friends to see it again some months later―after it had gotten popular and was dubbed into English
―and found that the dubbing had stripped much of the movie's dramatic power.
Exiting the theater, I didn't have the same remarkable feeling I'd had with the original,
when I'd felt like I was a German sailor escaping a steel-walled watery tomb.

I recently had an encounter with a dog owner letting his large German shepherd run free around the park.
For the third time in the last month, I asked the man to restrain the dog while I ran past with my leashed dog, and he refused.
Another man who regularly plays with his dog simply stares when I ask him to restrain his dog.
Dog owners like these two men usually say their dogs are “safe.” But I've seen apparent “hellos” escalate into vicious fights between two “nice dogs.” Dog fights are brutal and bloody affairs impossible to break up without risking serious injury.
I was seriously bitten some years ago breaking up a fight between my dog and an unleashed dog, and had to have stitches and a rabies shot as a result.

Although the Chinese tried to ignore or resist the foreign traders, two factors worked against them.
The central government in China was weak, and the Europeans had superior weapons and ships.
By the beginning of the twentieth century, the Chinese were unable to stop foreign interests from influencing their country.

Their cultures had developed in the course of a history of extreme, and extremely
sub-divided regionalism: the attempt to teach Germans to think of themselves as
Germans first, and the attempt to teach Italians to think of themselves as Italians
first, rather than as natives of a particular small principality or city, was to
disturb the traditional culture from which alone any future culture could grow.

At the height of the cold war, cheerful, wisecracking West Berliners turned
the old German capital into a symbol of courageous resistance against Soviet
encroachment.

Twenty years ago last week, Moscow and its East German minions suddenly
threw up the infamous 28-mile-long Wall across the city to halt a
hemorrhage of people from the Communist empire, and West Berlin became a
monument to the division of Europe.

One is that the English are not gifted artistically. They are not as musical
as the Germans or Italians; painting and sculpture have never flourished
in England as they have in France.

But they have a certain power of acting without taking thought. In moments of
supreme crisis the whole nation can suddenly draw together and act upon a species
of instinct, really a code of conduct which is understood by almost everyone,
though never formulated. The phrase that Hitler coined for the Germans,
"a sleep-walking people," would have been better applied to the English.

Though his book covers little new ground, he tells the Hitler story as no
non-German could: dispassionately, but from the inside. When he blames the
German people for Hitler, as he does, the charge rings true.

We are now familiar with the notion that the real strength of a nation lies in its industrial power.
The German and Japanese adventures in 1930s and 1940s were built on this premise.
Although the failure of these experiments is not conclusive evidence of the falsity of the premise,
for perhaps Germany and Japan simply misjudged their power, their failure may suggest to us, as indeed all history suggests,
that something more than power is needed if a nation is to become and continue to be successful in any meaning of the word.
The indispensable ingredient is wisdom.

only did the majority of the male population swarm out as far as the
North Cape and the Caucasus, not to mention nearly the whole Jewish
population who were forced into emigration and death, but Germany also
abducted as many as ten million laborers, a third of them women, from
all over Europe, so that thirty per cent of all jobs, and in the
armaments industry more than half, were done by foreigners. After the
war, there were millions of displaced persons; only very few remained in
Germany. Compared to these catastrophic movements all contemporary
turbulences appear harmless.

The sales balance of 10-year German government bonds is KRW 126.6 billion, with the entire amount of sales in the loss section.

Under the terms and conditions, the final return of the product will be finalized based on the German government bond rate, which closed three days before its expiration.

Amid concerns that "Baedal Minjok," which was recently sold to German company Delivery Hero, raised brokerage fees, Park Young-sun, Minister of SMEs and Startups, said on the 18th, "CEO Kim Bong-jin promised not to raise fees."

Woori Bank's DLF has a knock in the barrier around the -0.2% range of the 10-year rate of German government bonds, l resulting in losses if interest rates fall further.

When the stake conversion is completed, it will become a 100% German capital company like Delivery Hero Korea.

Woori Bank's German DLS fund has revived because interest rates on German government bonds are rising rapidly.

However, interest rates on German bonds have been on the rise for the first time, and if interest rates on German bonds remain above the break-even point after that, two types of maturity products are also expected to make profits on the 19th.

The loss of the DLS linked to German government bond rates was relatively large.

Shortly after the incident, the German headquarters sent its chief executive to South Korea and conducted a recall, but this year's cumulative sales fell about 30 percent from the same period last year due to a drop in credibility.

As a result, the maturity of the German Heritage DLS, which is worth a total of 70 billion won, has been extended so far.

With that, he dismissed concerns and criticisms from the Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise and Korea Franchise Industry Association that German Delivery Hero will monopolize the domestic delivery app market and raise fees.

This is because the demand for German government bonds has been driven by concerns over the international economy and further declines in interest rates as the U.S. recently cut its key interest rate.

In the meantime, Woori Bank will sell 120 billion won worth of six-month DLS products linked to the 10-year interest rate on German government bonds from March this year and will return to maturity after next month.

These products are the last of all German interest rate-linked DLFs, sold by Woori Bank, to be liquidated.

For example, if the German government bond rate does not fall below -0.2% per annum over the following six months, subscribers will receive a return of 2% of the investment, but if it falls further, the number of principal losses will steeply increase in proportion to the extent of the decline.

The Korea Federation of Micro Enterprise has expressed its "opposition to the sale" in connection with the merger and acquisition of "BaeMin", South Korea's No. 1 ordering payment app market, by "Delivery Hero," a German rival and parent company of South Korea's second and third-largest apps.

German government bond rates once fell to -0.7%, so almost losing the full amount of principal, but the "worst situation" was avoided as government bond rates rebounded this month.

An industry official said, "After Lime Fund, investor distrust in private equity funds continues to grow as Australian and German real estate, Italian medical bonds, Discovery, P2P financing, and even meat loans have failed to make redemption at maturity, one after the other."

Meanwhile, the German government bond rate-linked DLS sold by Woori Bank once entered a section of a 100% loss of principal.

"Baedal Minjok," which started as a startup and became the No. 1 delivery app in Korea, will join hands with German capital to enter the Asian market.

DLF is a product investing in DLS, which varies in earnings rate depending on German, U.S. government bonds, and British pound interest rate swap rates (CMS) interest rate, and losses are inevitable due to a sharp drop in interest rates on the government bonds in concern.

This means that some products have been out of the principal-loss section due to the recent rise in the German government bond's interest rate, but sanctions will be imposed regardless of this.

In addition to the two banks, securities firms sold about 200 billion won worth of DLS linked to German and British government bond rates, selling a total of 1 trillion won worth of interest-linked DLS.

Recently, the DLS that is linked to the 10-year German treasury rate has become a big issue.

Until March, when Woori Bank sold the product, the 10-year interest rate on German government bonds was around 0.2%, but it has fallen to the principal loss section since June.

The German Heritage DLS, which will expire one after another by the end of the year, has collateral, but it is not certain how long it will take until it is sold.

As the 10-year interest rate-linked products of German government bonds, which will expire next month, have an expected loss rate of 95%, more applications for dispute settlement after maturity are expected.

In order to prevent the unemployment caused by the COVID-19 incident, the German government will pay up to 60 to 67% of wage cuts depending on the shortening time if companies cut their working hours by more than 10%.

Let's take a German study that has confirmed the anchoring effect on predicting the proper price of a used car.

It is also said that the German government is discussing a plan to have 25% + 1 share voting rights.

The self-employed opposed over the "Big Deal", in which the German company Delivery Hero, which operates the 2nd largest delivery application in the domestic market, Yogiyo, acquired the industry's 1st place, Woowa Brothers, which is the operator of BaeMin.

However, the recent rebound in German government bond rates has eased the expected losses somewhat.

This product is a short-term investment product that can receive the promised interest rate if the German government bond rate does not fall below -0.3% on the maturity evaluation date, but if it falls below -0.6%, the principal will be lost.

For example, if the German government bond rate is -0.2% or higher, a return of 4.2% is provided.

For example, 10-year German government bond DLS products give a 3-5% return if interest rates do not fall below -0.2%, but if they go below that, principal losses will occur.

Among them, German government bond-linked products, worth a balance of KRW 126.6 billion, have an expected loss rate of 95.1%, which is likely to get no money at all as they expire between September and November.

Mannesmann could also fall back on the German banks to help defend
itself the way the tire maker Continental did in 1991 when Pirelli tried

could ask it and other banks to take blocking stakes, though executives
close to the company said that plan would be a last resort.

Kip : The Germans were here. The Germans were all over this area.
They left mines everywhere. THE PIANOS WERE THEIR FAVORITE
HIDING PLACES.

WHERE IT'S AT - Names for a common symbol
-
The @ symbol has been a central part of the Internet and its forerunners ever
since it was chosen to be a separator in e-mail addresses by Ray Tomlinson in
1972.
From puzzled comments which surface from time to time in various newsgroups,
it appears the biggest problem for many Net users is deciding what to call it.
This is perhaps unsurprising, as outside the narrow limits of bookkeeping,
invoicing and related areas few people use it regularly.
Even fewer ever have to find a name for it, so it is just noted mentally
as something like "that letter a with the curly line round it".
-
It use in business actually goes back to late medieval times.
It was originally a contraction for the Latin word ad, meaning
"to, toward, at" and was used in accounts or invoices to introduce the price
of something ("3 yds of lace for my lady @ 1/4d a yard").
In cursive writing, the upright stroke of the 'd' curved over to the left
and extended around the 'a'; eventually the lower part fused with the 'a'
to form one symbol.
Even after Latin ceased to be commonly understood, the symbol remained in use
with the equivalent English sense of at.
-
Because business employed it, it was put on typewriter keyboards from
about 1880 onwards, though it is very noticeable that the designers of
several of the early machines didn't think it important enough to include
it (neither the Sholes keyboard of 1873 nor the early Caligraph one had it,
giving preference to the ampersand instead), and was carried over to the
standard computer character sets of EBCDIC and ASCII in the sixties.
From there, it has spread out across the networked world, perforce even
into language groups such as Arabic, Tamil or Japanese which do not use
the Roman alphabet.
-
A discussion on the LINGUIST discussion list about names for @ in various
languages produced an enormous response, from which most of the facts which
follow are drawn.
Some have just transliterated the English name 'at' or 'commercial at'
into the local language.
What is interesting is that nearly all the languages cited have developed
colloquial names for it which have food or animal references.
-
In German, it is frequently called Klammeraffe, 'spider monkey' (you can
imagine the monkey's tail), though this word also has a figurative sense
very similar to that of the English 'leech' ("He grips like a leech").
Danish has grisehale, 'pig's tail' (as does Norwegian), but more commonly
calls it snabel a, 'a (with an) elephant's trunk', as does Swedish,
where it is the name recommended by the Swedish Language Board.
Dutch has apestaart or apestaartje, '(little) monkey's tail' (the 'je' is
a diminutive); this turns up in Friesian as apesturtsje and in Swedish
and Finnish in the form apinanhanta.
Finnish also has kiss"anh"anta, 'cat's tail' and, most wonderfully, miukumauku,
'the miaow sign'.
In Hungarian it is kukac, 'worm; maggot', in Russian 'little dog',
in Serbian majmun, 'monkey', with a similar term in Bulgarian.
majmun(원숭이, 불가리아어도 비슷하다)이 쓰인다.
Both Spanish and Portuguese have arroba, which derives from a unit of weight.
In Thai, the name transliterates as 'the wiggling worm-like character'.
Czechs often call it zavin'ac which is a rolled-up herring or rollmop;
the most-used Hebrew term is strudel, from the famous Viennese rolled-up
apple sweet.
Another common Swedish name is kanelbulle, 'cinnamon bun', which is rolled up
in a similar way.
-
The most curious usage, because it seems to have spread furthest from its
origins, whatever they are, is snail.
The French have called it escargot for a long time (though more formal
terms are arobase or a commercial), but the term is also common in Italian
(chiocciola), and has recently appeared in Hebrew(shablul),
Korean (dalphaengi) and Esperanto (heliko).
-
In English the name of the sign seems to be most commonly given as at or,
more fully, commercial at, which is the official name given to it in the
international standard character sets.
Other names include whirlpool (from its use in the joke computer language
INTERCAL) and fetch (from FORTH), but these are much less common.
fetch(forth에서 유래한)가 있으나 훨씬 덜 사용된다.
A couple of the international names have come over into English:
snail is fairly frequently used; more surprisingly, so is snabel from Danish.
-
Even so, as far as English is concerned at is likely to remain the standard
name for the symbol.
But there is evidence that the sign itself is moving out from its Internet
heartland to printed publications.
Recently the British newspaper, the Guardian, began to advertise
a bookselling service by post, whose title (not e-mail address)
is "Books@The Guardian". Do I detect a trend?
-
At least we shall have no problem finding a name for the symbol.

German scientists found the rate of twin births in areas with high environmental pollution were double that of other areas.
