Even within the ruling New Korea Party, voices have been raised in
opposition to the revision, with some senior party staffers having
determined it to ``unreasonably favor the rich.'' A 1 billion won tax
base means some three times that figure in real values and therefore the
proposed bill will practically allow very rich people to pay nothing for
inheritance of up to 3 billion won worth of property.

In the first place, the students' objectives did not draw any support,
let alone understanding, from the significant portion of our citizens. The
asked for reunification through a confederate system and the withdrawal

sympathy and respect for the North Korean leadership that has brought
their country to the brink of mass starvation in the most undemocratic
lineal inheritance of power and a disdain for their own government
that was created through a long, hard struggle for democracy.

Jean bought a small cellular phone for her boyfriend.
She wrapped the gift and put it on a table.
The next day, all that remained of the present was torn wrapping paper.
The woman searched her apartment for the phone, but found nothing.
She decided to dial the phone's number and heard it ringing where her dog was sleeping.
At first she thought the dog was lying on the phone, but then realized that the phone was ringing inside the dog.
She rushed the dog to the vet, who determined that the dog had indeed swallowed the phone.
The vet told the woman that her dog was not in danger and told her to let nature take its course.
The phone emerged from the dog the next day in perfect working order.
Jean

There are some music-sharing Websites such as Napster on the Internet.
So, millions of surfers can upload and download MP3 files for free.
Some say there is nothing wrong with this.
Others strongly criticize the music-sharing Websites.
In my opinion, artists have a right to say they don't want their music to be uploaded to the free music community.
We have to remember that artists make a living from their music.
So we need laws that stop the online operators from providing that service without the artists' permission.

In most states, people who have been adopted are not allowed to have access to their files.
They have no idea who their real parents are or why they were put up for adoption,
and all their attempts to discover this information are met with firm resistance from the government.
In short, adoption officials will tell them nothing.

John starts to work on a task for Bill.
Then the phone rings.
It's Sally calling, and she has a question.
So John puts Bill's work aside and starts working on Sally's project.
Then an express mail package arrives from Fred.
John stops working on Sally's project and begins to deal with it immediately.
By the end of the day, John has a number of customers who think their work is being done.
But in reality, none of it is.
Because of the interruptions, nothing has been completed.
Instead, everything is in a state of partial completion.
And the long list of unfinished work continues to grow with each passing day.
In the end, none of these customers are satisfied.

I entered the old, red brick house.
As I walked through the creaky oak door, the light barely crept through the dirty old windowpanes.
Slowly, I moved into the once-lively living room.
While I reached for the light switch, the soft wisp of a spider’s web brushed against my hand.
The smell and taste of dust were thick in the air.
The gray, crushed velvet furniture was covered with thick, clear, plastic sheets.
The white walls and ceiling were now a dull, dingy gray, and there were little balls of dust about the floor.
Hearing nothing except my own heartbeat, I felt the emptiness crash out loud and hard.

My uncle started his business from nothing.
Now, he's a billionaire.
Though he's a man of means, he still lives a simple life.
He always says to me, “We have to be thrifty and save money for a rainy day.”
And he is really industrious.
He usually gets up at four in the morning and goes for jogging along the riverside.
And he is really sensible about what he eats.
He never overeats himself and touches junk food.

In everything you do in your family, you should keep in mind the miracle of the Chinese bamboo tree.
After the seed for this amazing tree is planted, you see nothing, absolutely nothing, for four years except for a tiny shoot coming out of a bulb.
During those four years, all the growth is underground in a root structure that spreads deep and wide in the earth.
But then in the fifth year the Chinese bamboo tree grows up to eighty feet!
Many things in family life are like the Chinese bamboo tree.
If you're patient and keep working, that “fifth year” will come, and you will be astonished at the growth and change you see taking place.

After we had eaten, my husband asked me if I would please get him a soft drink.
I obligingly got him a soft drink and thought nothing of it.

When one has been without a certain pleasure for a number of years, one is accustomed to finding on returning to it that it is not quite so delightful as one has imagined.
In the years of abstinence one had built up too glowing a picture, and the reality turns out to be something much more commonplace.
Pleasant, yes; but, after all, nothing out of the ordinary.

Over the years, I've had many executives come to me and say with pride:
"Boy, last year I worked so hard that I didn't take any vacation."

You mean to tell me that you can take responsibility for an $80 million project and you can't plan two weeks out of the year to go off with your family and have some fun?"

If you haven't done so already, I, as one of your friends, would like to give you some food for thought:
First, being single isn't so bad.
You can be married and still be plenty lonely, especially when your partner is not there for you.
I hope you will not let the fear of singlehood drive you to make the biggest mistake of your life.
Second, love can be killed.
It can be chipped away, piece by piece, until there is nothing left.
This process can go unnoticed until everything falls apart.
The easiest way to destroy love is to keep taking it and give nothing in return.

"The minute you climb in, you start feeling excited.
There's nothing so exciting for me, not even a jet plane.
You get in and start up and off you go.
And then you've got to pay attention every minute.
There's always someone doing something crazy who's likely to end up under your wheels.
I sometimes think it's a miracle if I can get all the way there with no accidents.
You've always got to be thinking ahead.
There's a lot of people in this job who have stomach problems from the tension.
They lose their hearing too, because of the noise.
You've got to be tough on this job, you know."

Dogs, like humans, need fresh water, fresh food and something to think about.
A dog left alone in the backyard will often bark nonstop for hours.
He is trying to get his message across.
Yes, your neighbors can hear it.
And no, they don't like it.
Do you want your neighbors lying awake all night thinking of creative ways to kill you and/or your dog?
If you are not willing to invest the time and energy to train your dog so it can be part of your family, please don't get one.
There is nothing so heartwarming as the love and loyalty of a dog, but it is better for the animal to be destroyed than to be left alone, neglected, bewildered and confused, brimming with love but with no one to accept it.

Film is the director's medium, television the writer's, but the theater is the actor's.
When the actor is onstage, it is he and he alone who drives the moment.
The audience have no choice but to remain in his faith or leave.
That's the real magic of the profession.
The actor onstage is all-powerful, for once the curtain rises, he is in control.
There is nothing the director or author can do once the curtain goes up.
The actor can choose to do or say anything he likes; he is the governor; he cracks the whip.

She had just begun an intense, love-at-first-sight relationship, only to have her lover go off to Europe three weeks later.
For seven tortured weeks she was plagued with doubts.
What if he decided he didn't love her after all?
What if he met someone else during his trip?
What if he didn't call her as soon as he returned?
Full of all these what-ifs, my friend's brain was about to short-circuit, until a wise friend of hers put things in perspective.
"Why worry? Whatever he does, he does.
Remember: You don't know until you know."
My friend stood there, awestruck by the brilliant simplicity of this observation.
There was really nothing she could do about the situation, after all.
And worrying about something before it actually happened suddenly came into focus as the waste of time and energy that it is.
In an instant, it seemed, she was free of the problem, able to settle back and take each day at a time until her lover returned, at which point things progressed just as beautifully as she could have hoped and her fears turned out to be groundless after all.

When I reached Richmond, I was completely out of money.
I had not a single acquaintance in the place; and, being unused to city ways, I did not know where to go.
I applied at several places for lodging, but they all wanted money, and that was what I did not have.
Knowing nothing better to do, I walked the streets.

The perfect love would be one that gives all and expects nothing.
It would, of course, be willing and delighted to take anything it was offered; the more the better.
But it would ask for nothing.
For if one expects nothing and asks nothing, he can never be deceived or disappointed.
It is only when love demands that it brings on pain.

The story goes that Alfred once took refuge in the cottage of a poor
peasant. The good wife was left in ignorance of his identity and therefore had
little time for this seemingly idle fellow. For Alfred spent his time gazing
into the fire and dreaming of further plans to defeat the Danes. Called upon
some errand, the good wife drew his attention to some cakes which were baking in
front of the fire, and told him that he must watch them carefully during her
absence. Alas! So preoccupied was the English king that the good wife found, on
her return, nothing but a few remains of her cakes. Whereupon, the angry woman
seized the royal hair and proceeded to scold him severely. So runs the story.
Whether it is truth or legend we cannot confirm.

This new educational system emphasizes the fact that there is nothing like
seeing for oneself. That is, knowledge gained by actual experience is understood
the best and is remembered the longest.

Most casual visitors to the zoo are convinced, as they stroll trom cage to cage,
that the funny gestures of the inmates are no more than a performance put on solely
for their entertainment. Unfortunately, however, nothing could be farther from the
truth than this view of the contented, playful caged animal.

A 1977 study of such cities as Detroit, Indianapolis and New Orleans produced
slightly better numbers, but nothing to counteract the exasperation of
New York Police Commissioner Robert McGuire: "The criminal justice system
almost creates incentives for street criminals."

Eisenhower's major virtue, which appeared less important in 1962 than it does
now, was a sense of proportion; he had an instinctive knowledge of what could be
done and, more important, what could not be done. As far back as 1951, for example,
when the French were fighting in Viet Nam, he forsaw nothing but swamps. "I'm
convinced that no military victory is possible in that kind of theater," he noted. In
1955 members of his Cabinet predicted imminent war with Red China in the Formosa
Strait. Ike knew better: "I have so often been through these periods of strain
that I have become accustomed to the fact that most of the calamities that we
anticipate really never occur."
* a sense of proportion:

Exile, says de Tocqueville, is the most cruel of all punishments, for while
it inflicts suffering, it teaches nothing. It crystalize the minds of its
victims, fixes in them the notions acquired in youth.

Yasser Arafat is nothing if not a practical man; he is unlikely now to do
anything that will undermine growing sympathy in the West for the Palestinians.

When some misfortune threatens, consider seriously and deliberately what
is the very worst that could possibly happen. Having looked this possible
misfortune in the face, give yourself reasons for thinking that after all
it would be no such very terrible disaster. Such reasons always exist,
since at the worst nothing that happens to oneself has any cosmic
importance. When you have looked for some time steadily at the worst
possibility and have said to yourself with real conviction, "Well, after
all, that would not matter so very much," you will find that your worry
diminishes to a quite extraordinary extent.

Three boys were bragging about their fathers. One said, "My dad's so fast
he can shoot an arrow and get to the target before the arrow does."
"That's nothing," the second boy replied. "My dad's so fast he can shoot
a deer at 500 yards and get to the deer before it falls."
"Big deal!" the third said. "My dad works for the government and gets off
work at 4:30, but he's so fast he gets home by 3:45."

*contempt 경멸 scorn; mental attitude of despising:
I feel nothing but contempt for such dishonest behavior.

It is evident that no professional writer can afford only to write when he
feels like it. If he waits till he is in the mood, till he has the
inspiration as he says, he waits indefinitely and ends by producing
little or nothing. The professional writer creates the mood.
He has his inspiration too, but he controls and subdues it to his bidding
by setting himself regular hours of work. But in time writing becomes
a habit, and like the old actor in retirement, who gets restless when
the hour arrives at which he has been accustomed to go down to the theater
and make up for the evening performance, the writer itches to get to his
pens and paper at the hours at which he has been used to write.

It is common in our day, as it has been in many other periods of the
world's history, to suppose that those among us who are wise have seen
through all the enthusiasms of earlier times and have become aware
that there is nothing left to live for.
The men who hold this view are genuinely unhappy, but they are proud of
their unhappiness, which they attribute to the nature of the universe
and consider to be the only rational attitude for an enlightened man.

I was at the time much taken with a young person of extravagant tastes,
and the gratification of my desires was frustrated by the attentions of
more opulent admirers who were able to provide the luxuries that her
frivolous soul hankered after.
I had nothing much to offer but a serious disposition and a sense of humor.
I determined to write a book that would enable me to earn three or four
hundred pounds with which I could hold my own with my rivals.
For the young person was attractive. But even if you work hard it takes
a long time to write a novel; you have to get it published; then publishers
do not pay you till many months have elapsed.
The result was that by the time I received the money the passion that I had
thought would last for ever was extinct and I had no longer the slightest
wish to spend it in the way I had intended. I went to Egypt on it.

I have seen a boy two years old, who had been kept in London, taken out
for the first time to walk in green country. The season was winter, and
everything was wet and muddy. To the adult eye there was nothing to
cause delight, but in the boy there sprang up a strange ecstasy; he
kneeled in the wet ground and put his face in the grass, and gave
utterance to half-articulate cries of delight. The joy that he was
experiencing was primitive, simple and massive.

Socrates was different from other teachers in Athens―and almost everywhere
else―for he never charged any person for his teaching. This kept him poor.
His clothes were often shabby, and so were those of his wife. He cared
nothing for this; but she did and it is said that she often scolded
Socrates because he did nothing to make money, but idled away his time
in talking.

Everybody in the world is seeking happiness―and there is one sure way
to find it. That is by controlling your thoughts. Happiness doesn't
depend on outer conditions. It depends on inner conditions.
It isn't what you have or what you are or where you are or what you are
doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.
For example, two people may be in the same place, doing the same thing;
both may have about an equal amount of money and prestige―and yet one
may be miserable and the other happy. Why? Because of a different mental
attitude. I saw just as many happy faces among the Chinese coolies
sweating and toiling in the devastating heat of China for seven cents
a day as I see on Park Avenue.
"Nothing is good or bad," said Shakespeare, "but thinking makes it so."
Abe Lincoln once remarked, "Most folks are about as happy as they make
up their minds to be."

In any matter of which the public has imperfect knowledge, public opinion
is as likely to be erroneous as is the opinion of an individual equally
uninformed.
To hold otherwise is to hold that wisdom can be got by combining many
ignorances.
A man who knows nothing of algebra cannot be assisted in the solution of
an algebraic problem by calling in a neighbor who knows no more than
himself, and the solution approved by the unanimous vote of a million
such men would count for nothing against that of a competent mathematician.

I got a concert ticket for nothing.

They don't call you a skinflint for nothing.

Yes, I do, but the tickets are all sold out.

It was nothing. What are friends for?

Buy Nothing Day is an international day for buying nothing at all. It
asks us to think about what we buy and whether buying more actually
increases our quality of life. Every product we buy has an effect on the
environment. Even before we spend our money, making, advertising, and
packaging what we buy can cost a lot in pure water, air, and soil. In
short, our shopping habits can have considerable effects on the
environment.

In a meeting of animal Space Scientists, the chimpanzee proudly
announced, "We sent a rocket to the moon. It stayed there for a whole
month before making the long trip back to Earth." "That's nothing," said
the fox. " We already sent our spaceship to straight to the sun." The
chimpanzee and the fox laughed loudly and said, "Don't be silly. The
rocket will melt before it gets there." "No, it won't," said the pig.
"We're sending it up at night."

As you know. I have lived in this apartment for the last ten years
and the lease has been renewed three times. The rent has risen each time,
but always until now, by a reasonable amount. One hundred percent,
though, is an absolute scandal, and I am not prepared to pay such a large
increase. It is wrong to ask the tenants to pay a large increase when
nothing has been done to improve the condition of the apartments. In
tact, the front entrance is a disgrace. I am sure it is hardly ever
cleaned.

Allen Pearson, who headed a forecast center for years, tells about a
lady who was not pleased with the warning system. "She called me up to
protest that the tornado watch had kept her in her basement for five
hours, and nothing happened, " says Allen Pearson. "I tried to explain
that we did not want to alarm her; we just wanted her to be aware.
Unfortunately, the same thing happened again five months later. She was
really angry that time; we had given a warning, but there was no tornado.
She would no longer believe us."

Money is merely a convenient medium of exchange - nothing more and
nothing less. Before its invention, mankind used the barter system of
trading objects for other objects or services. One pig might have been
worth five chickens in trade ; a week's labor might have yielded one
goat, and so on. Can you imagine the problems of carrying around enough
livestock or grain to do one's weekly shopping? The barter system worked
well until people started to move about more and to greater distances.

The Girl With April In Her Eyes
Chris De Burgh
There once was a king who called for the spring
For his world was still covered in snow
But the spring had not been for he was wicked and mean
In his winter fields nothing would grow
And when a traveller called seeking help at the door
Only food and a bed for the night
He ordered his slave to turn her away
The girl with April in her eyes
-
Oh~~oh~ on and on she goes
Through the winter's night the wild wind and the snow
Ah~~ah~ on and on she rides
Someone help the girl with April in her eyes
-
She rode through the night till she came to the light
Of a humble man's home in the woods
He brought her inside by the fire light she died
And he buried her gently and good
Oh the morning was bright all the world snow white
But when he came to the place where she lay
His field was ablaze with flowers on the grave
Of the girl with April in her eyes

Let's take a walk together near the ocean shore.
Hnad in hand you and I.
Let's cherish every monent we have been given.
For time is passing by.
I often pray befor I bay down by your side.
And if you receive your calling before I awake.
Could I make it through the night.
Cherish the love we have.
We should cherish the life we live.
Cherish the love. Cherish the life. Cherish the love.
Cherish the love we have for as long as
we both shall live.

**Cherish the love, cherish the life.

The world is always changing.
Nothing stays the same.
But love will stand the test of the time.
The next life that we live in remains to be seem.
And will you be by my side.
I often pray before I lay down by your side.
And if you receive your calling before I awake.
Could I make it through the night.

Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head
Sung By B.J.Thomas
-
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head,
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed,
