Texas Instruments said its digital signal processor (DSP) chips would
have 500 million transistors integrated onto a single chip by 2010.
이 회사는 이같은 야심찬 계획을 실현시키기 위해 2010년까지 디지털
신호처리칩(DSP)을 구성하는 반도체 한개당 5억 개의 트랜지스터를 심을 수
있는 기술을 개발할 계획이다.
Dallas-based Texas Instruments said its new product roadmap calls for the
performance of its core DSP chips to increase by 15 times by 2005 and by
more than 230 times by 2010, based on advances in materials, technology,
and manufacturing capacity.
달러스의 이 회사는 자사의 신제품인 영상지도를 운영하기위해 주요 DSP
성능이 2005년까지 15배, 2010년까지 230배 이상 늘어나야 한다고 판단하고
이를 위해 재료, 기술, 생산 능력면에서 획기적인 발전이 요구된다고
덧붙였다.
Texas Instruments pioneered the computer transistor in 1958 and the first
commercial DSP in 1982. It holds about 47 percent of the world's
programmable DSP market. That market is seen growing by 30 percent a year
for the next five years, the company said, citing the research firm
Forward Concepts.
텍사스 인스투르먼트는 1958년 컴퓨터 트랜지스터 개발에 최초로 성공했고
1982년에는 상용 DSP를 처음으로 개발, 시판에 들어갔다. 이 회사는 앞으로
5년간 DPS시장은 연간 30%씩 성장할 것이라고 전망했다.
