Down's syndrome (다운 증후군) 21번 염색체의 전부나 일부를 침범하는 과도한 염색체 물
질에 의해 특징적인 안모, 지능저하 등이 나타나는 발육장애. 흔하게 나타나며 발생율은 임
신부의 나이가 많아짐에 따라 증가된다. 임상적 소견으로는 지능저하, 동그란 얼굴, 전두부
돌출과 후두부 평편화를 동반한 단두증 등이 특징이다.

정신지체와 선천성 심장병등을 동반하는 유전성질환.
소아세포내 21번 염색체 이상으로 나타난다는것 외에
정확한 발병원인은 아직껏 밝혀지지 않고 있다.
