All living things, both plants and animals, must feed on other plants or animals.
This process is called a food cycle and green plants are the beginning of this cycle.
Every green plant makes food from the sun's energy and many animals depend directly upon them for food.
These plant eaters are often small animals.
At the next stage in the food cycle are the animals that eat the plant eaters.

What is wrong with this view? It is certain that technology has an important effect on our lives.
But to suggest that it determines how we live can easily be shown to be wrong.
If you are given a computer, you can send harmful messages to other people, but you don't have to.
How you act will depend on the social circumstances in which you find yourself.
Technology enables us to do things but it does not force us to.
Its influence on society depends on the social circumstances in which it is made available.

The story of a drama is told by the characters.
The author communicates his ideas to the audience through the actors.
The actor does this through his actions and voice.
He must interpret the role to the audience, and in doing so he will put his unique personality on the character.
For this reason, the actor is the most important component in the drama.
Unless he speaks and moves in the manner in which the imaginary character whose part he is playing would do,
the story will not be clearly communicated to the audience.
The audience must depend solely on the actor since there can be no reasonable explanation by the author, as we find in a novel.
What the actor fails to transmit immediately is lost forever to the audience.

Our students are eating more and more junk food and drinks at school.
Vending machines are selling unhealthy drinks, and school cafeterias are serving unhealthy food.
Childhood obesity is becoming worse every day.
No one is really concerned about this serious phenomenon.
Schools are overlooking the problem, while food companies are only pursuing profits.
Strict regulations must be enforced immediately to ban junk foods from schools.
We cannot depend on schools or food companies any more.
It is no good relying on self-regulation: it didn't work in the past and there is no reason to believe it will work.
Now the government must act.

Wherein lies the value of educating aesthetic taste?
The most straightforward answer is seemingly obvious.
There is much pleasure to be derived from appreciation of fine art works, and so providing students the means to appreciate them will make their lives more enjoyable later on.
But this answer itself raises two further questions.
First, does a person's overall aesthetically derived pleasure typically increase when that person is trained to appreciate the 'higher' as opposed to 'lower' art forms?
Second, does appreciation of the 'higher' forms really depend on a person's being educated to appreciate them?
Clearly a third question is implicit here as well, namely: in what sense are the 'higher' forms higher?
The issue of requiring or even encouraging aesthetic education is tied also to the question of whether certain sorts of taste in art are objectively better than others.

Societies progress from simple to more complex ways of life as they develop special skills and knowledge.
When each person keeps to his own work, he depends on others to satisfy his other needs.
The more complex a society becomes, the more its members depend on each other.

Politicians are not the sole sources of a nation's success and grandeur.
There is much more to national enrichment, material and moral, than the people who make its laws and run its institutions of governance.
Those important things depend on other things―habits, mores, customs, values, virtues―that are shaped, vivified, nurtured and husbanded by people often working far from the public arena.

The fact is that the less developed countries(LDCs) should not have to be producing primarily for developed country markets.
In the first place, they could trade more with each other, and be less dependent on developed countries for trade.
The LDCs have within themselves all that is required for growth.
They have surpluses of fuel and of the principal minerals.
They have enough land to feed themselves, if they cultivate it properly.
They are capable of learning the skills of manufacturing, and of saving the capital required for modernization.
Their development does not in the long run depend on the existence of the developed countries, and their potential for growth would be unaffected even if all the developed countries were to sink under the sea.

Our problem has been trying to depend on government to police the polluters.
Polluting has been against the law for a long time, but there will never be enough government regulation to prevent the illegal dumping of waste chemicals or the midnight venting of smokestacks.
This polluting of the biosphere won't completely stop until an alarmed citizenry pulls out their video recorders and takes it upon themselves to catch these people in the act.
In a sense, business and the employees of business must regulate themselves.

I've been tardy for school twice in the last eight weeks and these black marks against me will hurt my grades.
My mom says if I know I have no one to depend on but myself, I'll hear the alarm.
So far she's been wrong.

Humans, computers and animals could be said in some sense to think. Yet the
thought processes of each of these would be different:each would have its own strengths
and its own weaknesses. The merit of a particular combination of strengths and
weaknesses would depend on the job to be done.

Everybody in the world is seeking happiness―and there is one sure way
to find it. That is by controlling your thoughts. Happiness doesn't
depend on outer conditions. It depends on inner conditions.
It isn't what you have or what you are or where you are or what you are
doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.
For example, two people may be in the same place, doing the same thing;
both may have about an equal amount of money and prestige―and yet one
may be miserable and the other happy. Why? Because of a different mental
attitude. I saw just as many happy faces among the Chinese coolies
sweating and toiling in the devastating heat of China for seven cents
a day as I see on Park Avenue.
"Nothing is good or bad," said Shakespeare, "but thinking makes it so."
Abe Lincoln once remarked, "Most folks are about as happy as they make
up their minds to be."

Suppose two friends of mine are sitting in my room. One is 165cm tall and
the other is 175cm tall. Which do you think is a man and which is a
woman? In the absence of other information, you probably conclude that
the shorter one is a woman while the taller one is a man. Where does this
conclusion come from? Your experience tells you that men tend to be
taller than women. So, From the particular men and women you have known,
you draw a conclusion about men and women as a whole. In this way, many
of your day-to-day judgments and guesses depend on your experience.

No living creature, plant or animal, can exist in complete isolation. An
animal is bound to depend on other living creatures, ultimately plants,
for its food supply ; it must also depend upon the activities of plants
for a continued oxygen supply for its respiration. Apart from these two
basic relationships, it may be affected directly or indirectly in
countless different ways by other plants and animals around it.

To writers, words on the page are never finished; each can be changed or
rearranged. Writers must separate themselves from their own pages so that
they can apply both their caring and their craft to their own work. They
must accept the criticism of others but be suspicious of it; they must
accept the praise of others but be even more suspicious of it. Writers
cannot depend on others. They must learn to be their own best enemy.

It was the speed, though, that convinced astronomers that they had nabbed their black hole at last.

In the 1940's and 1950's, biochemists strived to learn why each of the
vitamins was essential for health. They discovered that key enzymes in
metabolism depend on one or another of the vitamins as coenzymes to
perform the chemistry that provides cells with energy for growth and
function. Now, these enzymes hunters occupied center stage.

These cues, which may be words, gestures, facial expressions, customs,
or norms, are acquired by all of us in the course of growing up and are
a part of our culture as much as the language we speak or the beliefs we
accept. All of us depend for our peace of mind and our efficiency on
hundreds of these cues, most of which we do not carry on the level of
conscious awareness.

The great cities have been built with no regard for us. The shape and
dimensions of the skyscrapers depend entirely on the necessity of
obtaining the maximum income per square foot of ground, and of offering
to the tenants offices and apartments that please them. This caused the
construction of gigantic buildings where too large masses of human
beings are crowded together. Civilized men like such a way of living.
While they enjoy the comfort and banal luxury of their dwelling, they do
not realize that they are deprived of the necessities of life.

In the nineteenth century many people accepted as scientifically valid not
only face-reading, or physiognomy, but also head-reading, or phrenology. The
bumps on a person's cranium, they thought, revealed his or her personality; so
did the shape of the mouth or the tilt of the nose. Today's thinking has it that
what hoes on in the brain does not depend on the face, and yet, just as
astrology continues to flourish in a scientific world, so too does "phys
/ phren," as the combination has come to be called, remain with us in the
1980's.

COMMISSION FOR AGENTS
Mr. West: I've checked the draft document, and one thing I
want to add is the commission for the agent.
Mr. Lee: That may be necessary if we can expand our business
further.
Mr. West: Do you have any thoughts about the percentage in
agent's commission?
Mr. Lee: I think it should be 10 percent or so, but our FOB
prices do not include your agent's commission.
Mr. West: I'm not sure yet whether we'll need many agents or
not, but anyway let me think it over.
Mr. Lee: If I want to include something about this in our
agreement, will you let us know your proposal as soon as
possible?
Mr. West: Yes, at our meeting tomorrow, if I can.

Last time we talked about the son's roles in the traditional Korean family.
Today we will be discussing the role of a womam which is considerably
different from that of a son.
The primary difference between a son and a daughter is that a
daughter would have to leave her family and move into her husband
family once she gets married.
So when she gets married she is referred to as '시집가다' or literally
going to the in-law's house.
If she gets married to the '장남' she would move into the '큰 집'
whereas if she marries one of the younger sons their living arra-
ngements would depend on the family's situation.
But one thing for sure is that once the daughter gets married
she ends up permanently leaving her natal family.
Therefore she literally becomes an outsider to her natal family
as well as to her husband's family because she is of a different
descent.
But usually the birth of her first child strengthens her relatio-
nship with the husband's family.
Because if the newborn happens to be a male it would ensure the
family's continuity for another generation.
A husband and a wife have different roles in a household.
Traditionally the wife's role would be to take care of the family
within the boundaries of her home whereas the husband's role would
be achieved outside the boundaries of his home.
The husband is considered to be the head of the family and is regarded
as the source of authority.
It is expected that children respect and obey the wishes of their
parents while it is also expected that the parents treat the members
of the family in a fair manner.
Deference to superiors and elders is definitely present in a household
and order is maintained through this deference and obedience.
So children would obey their parents the wife the husband the younger
sibling the older and so forth.
All this is derived from filial piety one of many confucian virtues.
The large extended family is becoming less and less common during
the more recent years but the roles and relations within the family
remain largely unchanged.

After the top n-silicon epitaxial layer was etched to open the porous
silicon layer(PSL) anodisation window, anodisation takes place only

The process of porous silicon formation on (100) sample was anisotropic,

which was evident from that the shapes of the reacted porous silicon layer
was all squarelike regardless of the shapes of reaction windows.
The experimental results show that the PSL anodisation process
does not depend on chemical reaction but does on electrical conduction property,
which is hole mobility depending on the crystal direction.

wrapped in her arms I see you across the street...
and I can't help but wonder if she knows what's going on..
you talk of love but you don't know how it feels..
when you realise that you're not the only one..f A Blue Bird

Mr Greenspan's comments come as the indebtedness of US households tops 9 trillion dollars.
Of that figure, 6.7 trillion is in mortgages - an area which has swollen in recent years as Americans have taken advantage of rock-bottom interest rates to remortgage their homes so as to raise extra cash.
In the third quarter of 2003, household debt expanded at an annual rate of 10%, with a 3.9% expansion of consumer credit in December 2003 alone.
Many observers have been concerned that swelling debt has underwritten the consumer boom on which the US economy has come to depend.
Growing debt levels, they fear, could spell an end to consumer spending growth - and indeed, recent figures have seen consumers' outlays come off the boil.
