→ 제비가 날아오고 진달래와 벚꽃이 피면서 시작된다: …come/begin with the arrival of the swallow and with the blooming of…

ANS) In Korea spring comes with the arrival of the swallows from the south and with the blooming of azaleas and cherry blossoms in late March of early April. Summer in Korea is hot and rainy. The summer usually begins in June. The temperature rises above 20℃(68℉) in most areas of Korea, and especially in July there are many rainy days. Fall is rather short, about two months from the middle of September to November. It is the most pleasant season of the year, because the days are clear and sunny. Winter in Korea can be characterized as cold and dry, though it snows frequently in most parts of the country.

→ 일격에: with a single punch
→ 접촉점에 신체의 모든 힘을 집중시킴으로써…: from a concentration of all the forces of the body on the point of contact
→ 정신과 마음의 단련을 강조하다: emphasize training the mind and the spirit
ANS) Some people skillful in Taekwondo can break as many as ten rooftiles with a single punch. This great power, however, comes not from mere muscle but from a concentration of all the forces of the body on the point of contact. Therefore, Taekwondo emphasizes training the mind and the spirit as well as the body.

When Tom comes home, he wants to relax by quietly reading the news.

have long believed that either a change in climate or widespread disease killed the world’s huge animals, such as the woolly mammoth.
Some evidence suggests, though, that these theories may be incorrect.
In Australia, scientists have dug up bone and eggshell fossils that indicate a massive die-off of large animals about 46,000 years ago.
This extinction occurred after humans arrived on that continent about 52,000 years ago.
These time frames suggest that people are responsible for the animals' disappearance.
Similar evidence comes from North America.
Humans arrived there about 13,000 years ago.
Approximately 1,200 years after their appearance, about thirty species of large animals were gone.

The half-life is the time necessary for half of the atoms to decay.

Radioactive carbon (C-14) has a half-life of 5,730 years.
That means that after 5,730 years, half of the radiocarbon atoms remain; one half of the radioactive atoms are still in the sample.
After 11,460 years, one-fourth of the atoms are still in the sample.

Archaeologists can measure the number of radioactive atoms and discover the age of ancient plant material.

We've always known that this violence comes from the urge humans feel to control and dominate one another, but only recently have we studied this phenomenon from the inside, from the point of view of the individual's consciousness.

from trying to do as well as you. Would you do me a favor? I'm with some

Iacocca agreed. He waited for the man to sit down and then walked toward
his table.
"Holy smoke!" cried one of Harry's friends. "It's Lee Iacocca, and he's

"Hello, Harry!" Iacocca said. "Introduce me to your friends."
Harry looked at him blankly "Come back later, Lee," he said. "We're trying

A large part of the influence of money and education on happiness comes
from one's original expectations. If you thought you would earn a lot,
perhaps because of extensive education, and did, you may have a "so what?"
attitude. But if your expectations have been overfulfilled, the happiness
that comes from getting more than you thought you would get can be quite
obvious. Thus the happiest groups are those with little education who
earn a lot; while the highly educated who earn a lot are not so well off psychologically.

The man divided against himself looks for excitement and distraction:
he loves strong passions, not for sound reasons, but because for the
moment they take him outside himself and prevent the painful necessity
of thought.
Any passion is to him a form of intoxication, and since he cannot
conceive of fundamental happiness, all relief from pain appears to
him solely possible in the form of intoxication.
This, however, is the symptom of a deep-seated malady.
Where there is no such malady, the greatest happiness comes with the
most complete possession of one's faculties. It is in the moments when
the mind is most active and the fewest things are forgotten that the
most intense joys are experienced.

It is very difficult for people to understand each other if they do not
share the same experience. For example, there is a folk tale that comes
from the foothills of the Himalayas. A man was trying to explain to a
blind friend what a white color is. "Well," he said,"it is like snow on
the hills." "Oh, the blind man said, "then it must be a wet sort of
color." "No, no," the man said, " it is also the same color as cotton or
wool." "Oh, yes, I understand. It must be a fluffy color." "No, it is
also like paper." "Then it must be a fragile color," said the blind man.

Thomas Jefferson once said that what matters is the courage of one's
convictions. Do you have the courage which comes from the sincere
conviction that you are a person of sound character, an honest,
dependable, kind, and caring person ? If you do, you will never have to
worry about what others think of you. If you know in your heart that you
are a good and decent Person, you can meet life's challenges head-on and
without fear of what others think.

A famous humor columnist said, "Nagging is not bad because it comes from those who seek perfection."
A boss can nag workers when they have too much lunchtime.
An environmentalist can nag the public when they pollute the earth.
A government can nag everyone to pay the taxes when the public welfare must be improved.
Nagging will not be stopped until the humans reach the ideal state.

The word "euthanasia" comes from the Greek language, and it means "good death."
“euthanasia(안락사)”라는 용어는 그리스어에서 유래되었다.
In English the word refers to purposely ending a person's life in order to stop the unbearable pain caused by an illness.
The patients are usually terminally ill, meaning that they have no chance of recovery.

Indeed, a lot of what researchers have learned about the biology of anxiety comes from scaring rats and then cutting them open.
Just as the Russian physiologist Ivan Pavlov showed 100 years ago that you could condition a dog to salivate at the sound of a bell,
scientists today have taught rats to fear all kinds of things - from buzzers to lights - by giving them electrical shocks when they hear the buzzer or see the light.
The animals quickly learn to fear the stimulus even in the absence of a shock.
Then researchers destroy small portions of the rats' brains to see what effect that has on their reactions (an experiment that would be impossible to conduct in humans).
By painstakingly matching the damaged areas with changes in behavior, scientists have, bit by bit, created a road map of fear as it travels through the rat's brain.

Anthropological evidence pushes the record of handedness in early human
ancestors back to at least 1.4 million years ago. One important line of
evidence comes from flaking patterns of stone cores used in toolmaking:
implements flaked with a clockwise motion (indicating a right-handed
toolmaker) can be distinguished from those flaked with a
counter-clockwise rotation (indicating a left-handed toolmaker).

Still other evidence comes from cranial morphology: scientists think
that physical differences between the right and left sides of the
interior of the skull indicate subtle physical differences between the
two sides of the brain. The variation between the hemispheres
corresponds to which side of the body is used to perform specific
activities. Such studies, as well as studies of tool use, indicate that
right- or left-sided dominance is not exclusive to modern Homo sapiens.

xide trap infrared radiation,
warm- ing the world. Water vapor accounts for some 98 percent of the
warming, without which the Earth would be 61 degrees Fahrenheit colder.
Carbon dioxide accounts for most of the other 2 percent; the vast
majority of that comes from burning fossil fuels(coal, oil and natural
gas). But fiddling with that 2 percent is like pushing on a long lever:
a tiny push can bring huge changes.

Many people think the Canary Islands were named for the canary birds
that live there. This is not true. The word canary comes from the Latin
word canis, meaning dog. Early explorers of the island found many wild
dogs there. They named the islands "Canario," meaning "Isle of Dogs." So
the Canary Islands were not named for the canary birds, but the birds
were named for the islands !

COME (와라!
COME의 관점은
COME과 BRING이 한쌍을 이루고 GO와 TAKE가 한쌍을 이루지요.
우산 가져가라고 하려면 "Take your umbrella with you"라고
우산 가져왔다고 하면 "I brought my umbrella"라고
1. Can I come with you?
A. When will you come?
B. I'll come at 3 P.M.
COME과 GO의 차이지요.
움직인 다음 도달점이 어디냐 (to, at, out, in, into), 움직이는
(from, of, out of)
Your wife comes before your job. Don't let her down.
Native는 COME
Does the soup come after the steak in your town? How weird!
2. Hey, shame on you trying to jump the line. Wait till your
turn comes.
till your turn comes to you"라고는 하지 않습니다.
Winter has come.
In the years to come, he'll be remembered as one of the
bravest men ever lived.
3. I have a squeezing pain in the stomach that comes and
goes.
COME과 GO의
"come and go"를
The light comes and goes. Check the fuse box.
4. When you finish college, come to me. I have some plans for
you.
COME도 방향성이 있고 TO
The report of a gun came to us.
A mean grin came to his lips.
5. The opposition party came into power.
She came into a fortune after she won the academy award.
Native

Mechanic:Hmm, the engine sounds O.K. I think the noise comes from the
