Work on standard began in 1994, at the 10th Session of the
Codex Coordinating Committee for Asia held in Beijing.
The Codex standard is a standard for food products set
by the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Program.
Its importance is hard to ignore, as the World Trade Organization
in 1995 decided to adopt the Codex standard to settle any trade
matters concerning international food products.
(김치)규격을 정하는 작업은 1994년 베이징에서 열렸던 제 10회
국제식품규격위원회(Codex) 아시아지역위원회에서 시작되었다.
Codex 규격은 (유엔)식량농업기구 및 세계보건기구 합동 프로그램이
정한 식품 규격이다. 1995년 세계무역기구가 국제식품에 관련된
무역 논쟁을 해결하기 위해 Codex 규격을 채택하기로 결정했기
때문에 Codex 규격의 중요성은 매우 크다고 할 수 있다.
