Let's eat out for a change.

(ANS) The dietary pattern in our country has largely changed nowadays with the advent of an era of instant food. Many of traditional dishes have been replaced by instant food items that are readily available in groceries. In industrial societies, such a phenomenon is inevitable, since fast food makes it possible for busy hardworking people to save time and energy.
But in the wake of such a drastic change, some immoral food producers have been producing unwholesome food items potentially harmful to the health of consumers, taking advantage of the mass consumption of instant food. Under these circumstances it is more than appropriate that the public health authorities should have conducted an all-out inspection to root out substandard food.

Don't jump to conclusions!
Don't change the subject!
Don't be angry 또는 Don't be mad, Don't get excited와 같은
이런 말 다음에 Hear me out이라고 한다면

It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new.

chicken feed : 하찮은 돈,작은 돈(small change or peanuts)
chicken-hearted : cowardly, timid
chicken out : 겁내서 그만두다.(to manage to get out of some-
thing, usually because of fear or cowardice)
Ex) Who's the chick driving the ragtop?
Come on, let's go. Don't be a chicken.
Sure I can afford it. It's just chicken feed.
He chickened out of the plan at the last minute
Yes, I'm a chicken-hearted softie. I hope you don't want
to make something of it.
Well, I may not be a spring chicken, but I got some
spizzerinktum left.

* be out to ...하려 애쓰다 ex. They were out to beat us.(그들을 우리를 이기려고 기를 썼다.)

Well, as in most work situations, we have a problem here with communication.
That is, most managers do not want to hear people complain, and most employees are afraid to come right out and say what they feel.
They usually won't say what they like or don't like.
They may complain to each other during lunch or after work, but they do not complain directly to the manager.
It is important, however, for a manager to find out if he or she is doing a good job.
One way to do this is to give employees a chance to talk.
Employees need an opportunity to say what is wrong, what they don't like about the work situation, and what they would change to make their work better.

Tired of talking to my son about emptying his pockets before washday,
I told him that all the money I found would not be returned.
Instead, I'd put a jar in the laundry room, and when enough money had accumulated, he would have to take me out for dinner.
The next washday, I handed him a laundry basket and asked him to gather up his clothes.
I peeked in and was pleased to see him empty his pockets.
But just as he was about to toss his dirty jeans in the basket, he paused, pulled out his wallet,
and put a handful of change and a dollar bill into the pocket of the jeans.

What would my life be like if my children didn't play sports? Well, it may be more relaxed on one hand.
However, like other parents, I can see the immense benefits sports provide our children!
Organized sports offer children of all ages the chance to exercise, to be part of a team, and to form relationships they may not otherwise have.
Working out not only helps to lessen depression, it also helps teenagers overcome the uneasiness they may feel at times as they develop and change.
And being on a sports team can be helpful and stabilizing at a time when so many things in their lives seem devastating.
And sharing in both its accomplishments and failures is a wonderful experience.

In everything you do in your family, you should keep in mind the miracle of the Chinese bamboo tree.
After the seed for this amazing tree is planted, you see nothing, absolutely nothing, for four years except for a tiny shoot coming out of a bulb.
During those four years, all the growth is underground in a root structure that spreads deep and wide in the earth.
But then in the fifth year the Chinese bamboo tree grows up to eighty feet!
Many things in family life are like the Chinese bamboo tree.
If you're patient and keep working, that “fifth year” will come, and you will be astonished at the growth and change you see taking place.

The social experiences and values of the old and the young have always been in conflict; if younger people did not question the advice and beliefs of their parents, little change or 'progress' would ever occur.
But with the accelerating speed of change in modern times, the conflicts between members of different generations, or between those people anxious to adjust to change and those less inclined to do so, were in danger of becoming more harmful than helpful.
Furthermore, the very phrase by which these conflicts are described, the 'generation gap', was becoming out of date.

A mother accompanied by two young sons was in a hurry to get a six-pack of
beer checked out at the supermarket. In order to have the exact change, she borrowed
three cents from one of her boys. "Then it happened," she relates."There I

Hart would try to change military thinking by rewarding and advancing officers
who are expert in tactics and innovation, not program managers. "We've got to
outsmart the enemy," says the Senator, who was shocked to discover that the
academies have virtually squeezed out the required study of military history and
tactics in favor of the social and political sciences.

All of my studies indicate that a decided majority of the Americans are
dissatisfied with their jobs and wish they were doing something else.
What about you? Is your job work or fun?
If it is work, then you would probably be wise to take immediate steps
to get out of it. Your life is too short and too valuable to waste in work.
If you don't get out now, you may end up like the frog that is placed
in a pot of fresh water on the stove. As the temperature in the pot
gradually increased, the frog feels restless and uncomfortable, but
not uncomfortable enough to jump out. Without being aware that a change
is taking place, he is gradually lulled into unconsciousness―boiled.

The popular myth that it is more difficult for an adult than for a child
to learn languages has been disproved by experimental research carried
out by modern educationists.
Much of the effort put into early education is defeated by the limitations
of the child's experience and interests.
The adult's experience of life and his vocabulary are necessarily more
varied than those of the child, and thus an intelligent grown-up person
approaches the study of a new language with knowledge of social customs
and of history, and with a world picture of change and growth gained by
general reading or study.

Growing as a person may take you to new places and present new
challenges. These may be stressful, but feeling stress is a natural,
necessary part of recognizing a weakness and trying out a new behavior.
It is often comfortable and easy to stay the way we are. Giving up old
comforts and habits is very hard. It is small wonder, then, that people
dislike changing. Yet it needs to be remembered that efforts to change
lead frequently to important improvement and growth in our lives.

Let's say you are driving across the desert. You are running out of gas.
Finally, you approach a sign, reading FUEL AHEAD. You relax, knowing you

wishes change what they see. In other words, we see what we desire.

Achieving all three of those feats over a sustained period of time will be a very difficult task, given the uneven pace of technological and commercial change and the unpredictable fluctuations in international politics.
Yet achieving the first two feats or either one of them without the third will inevitably lead to relative eclipse over the longer term, which has of course been the fate of all slower-growing societies that failed to adjust to the dynamics of world power.
As one economist has soberly pointed out, "It is hard to imagine, but a country whose productivity growth lags 1 percent behind other countries over one century can turn, as England did, from the world's indisputed industrial leader into the mediocre economy it is today."

Today's kids are more likely to be overweight and out of shape than in the past.
Technology and the change of lifestyle that it brought with it are probably the most to blame.
Whether kids are sitting behind computers or joy sticks, or watching music videos via satellite TV, they're not outside riding bicycles or running around getting exercise.

These days urban lifestyles seem to change very fast. It is more than
just clothing and hairstyles that are in style one year and out of date
the next; it's a whole way of living. One year people wear sunglasses on
top of their heads and wear jeans and boots; they drink white wine and
eat sushi at Japanese restaurants; for exercise they jog several miles a
day. However, the next year everything has changed. Women wear long
skirts; people drink expensive water from France and eat pasta at
Italian restaurants; everyone seems to be exer- cising at health clubs.
Then, suddenly, it has changed again. People wear only natural fabric
(safe for the environment); they drink gourmet coffee and eat Thai food;
for both leisure and exercise, they go rollerblading.

Almost nothing in modern life escapes the influence of fashion; food,
music, exercise, books, slang words, movies, furniture, places to visit,
even names go in and out of fashion. For a while, it seems that all new
parents are naming their babies Heather, Dawn, Eric, or Adam. These
names are "in." Then, suddenly, these same names are "out," and Tiffany
and Jason are "in." It's almost impossible to write about specific fads
because these interests that people enthusiastically follow can change
very quickly.
Heather, Dawn,

For almost 140 million years, dinosaurs ruled the land, sky and sea.
Dinosaurs came in sizes and shapes suited to every corner of the world.
Then, approximately 65 million years ago, these huge reptiles died out
completely. Few mysteries have ever excited the imaginations of
scientists as much as this great extinction. Over the years, scientists
have developed many theories to explain this event. There of the most
common explanations are a gradual change in the Earth's climate, a lack
of food, and the Earth's collision with a large asteroid.

An electronic funds transfer system-called E.F.T. in banking circles-is
replacing the paperwork in banking processes. With its use of computers to carry
out financial transactions, E.F.T. is changing the way people pay bills and may
eliminate the necessity for carrying cash. But there is a snag in this
technological revolution, and that is the reluctance of consumers to change
their habits. Regardless of whether or not consumers like it, bankers are
determined to fully implement the new system. The full use of E.F.T.
nevertheless may be a quarter century away.

A baseball batter has less than one tenth of a second to decide what type of pitch is coming.
He should not miss reading the movement of a pitcher's arm and hand when the pitcher throws his ball.

He knows that if at release point the ball is level with the pitcher's hand, it is a fast ball, and that if the ball is above the pitcher's hand, it is a curve or change.

하나는 better than others, easily seen, 또
There are no outstanding problems.
=There are no problems that have to be solved.

CONCLUSION OF A CONTRACT
Mr. Lee: I think we've finally reached the stage where we can
conclude a business agreement.
Mr. West: Right. There are no outstanding problems as far as
I can see.
Mr. Lee: All that remains is to sign the document.
Mr. West: Yes. I don't think any important items have been
left out.
Mr. Lee: I agree, but we can change minor details later, if
both parties agree to it.
Mr. West: Right. Now when do we sign it?
Mr. Lee: I'm sure you want to do it as soon as possible. But
we need a little ceremony, and my boss wants to attend the
signing. So shall we make it 10 tomorrow morning?
Mr. West: Fine. I know tomorrow is a lucky day according to
the old calendar.
Thank you for your support.
Thank for your consideration.

Profoundly lamentable is the fact that our civil servants
still retain the strong residues of authoritarian orientation
of the mandarins and their outdated behavioral norms. *Imbued
with the *archaic rules of conduct, they are reluctant to
lead the radical tasks considered to be acts of *sticking
their necks out and thereby risking their *entrenched
positions. The *upshot has been that our reform fronts have
hardly made any substantial progress thus far. In fact, those
public officials have, more often than not, been a major
hurdle for social change than the nation's machinery of
reforms.
