A cat has nine lives.
-
Care killed the cat.
Curiosity killed a cat.
-
cat은 여자에 비유되기도 합니다. 특히 입이 거친 심술궂은 여자로. -_-;
to live under the cat's foot라고 하면 고양이 발 밑에서 사는 것이니까
I feel sorry for him. He's living under the cat's foot.
You're a copy cat.
He is always taking a cat nap.

제가 아는 유사한 표현은 "keep the good work" 인데..
-
keep up the good work.
Take care!
Good-bye.
Take it easy!
You're working hard.
You shouldn't have gone to all the trouble.
Thank you for your trouble.

Should I give you more coffee? (X)
(How about ~?, Would you like ~?, Would you care for ~?)'
① Would you like more coffee?(커피 더 드시겠어요?)
② Would you care for another cup of coffee?(커피 한 잔 더 하실래요?)
③ What do you say to one more cup of coffee?(커피 한 잔 더 하시는 건 어때요?)
④ How about another cup of coffee?(커피 한 잔 더 드릴까요?)

The elderly who have been left destitute are supposed to be in the
government's care but these people who made great sacrifices to give
the nation the prosperity and economic development it now enjoys, are
in fact deserted by their own children and the government. At present

My grandfather used to work very hard, when young.
He took good care of his wife and children.
Now he no longer has to work hard.
He enjoys taking walks, reading the newspaper, and watching his grandchildren.

In 1859, a Swiss man named Henry Dunant went to Italy.
He went there on business.
There was a war in the town of Solferino.
Dunant saw the war, and he was shocked.
There were thousands of wounded men.
Nobody was there to take care of them.
Dunant asked the people in the town to help the wounded men.
Later, he wrote a book called A Memory of Solferino.

후에 그는 ‘A Memory of Solferino'라는 책을 썼다.

The life of Dorothy and Patrick Tien has improved greatly since they both got new jobs.
Dorothy got a position as an editor at a publishing company.
Patrick was hired as a full-time consultant for a construction firm.
The difference between their new jobs and their old ones can be summed up in one word: flextime.
Until they secured these new positions, Dorothy and Patrick had a very difficult time raising their two small children.
Their life was very stressful because they were at the mercy of a nine-to-five schedule and had to pay a lot for day care.
To get to work on time, they had to have the children at the day care center by 7:30 every morning.

A true apology is more than just acknowledgement of a mistake.
It's recognition that something you have said or done has damaged a relationship
― and that you care enough about the relationship to want it repaired and restored.
It's never easy.
Admitting to being in the wrong hurts.
But once you make yourself face up to it, swallow your pride.
It can be a wonderfully cleansing and healing thing.
Being human, we all need the art of this.

Asians are spending more time at the computer.
According to a recent survey, 60 percent of Singaporeans now have computers in their homes.

However, in the past decade, many adoptees have publicly protested this situation,
and some states have changed their previous policies.
Indeed, this change in adoption policy should take place nationwide.
Adoptees need to know about their parents and their past, and those who do not care can simply refuse access to their files.

Every human being will grow older and die.
Aging in itself is not a disease or a sickness, but as people age, disease often follows and the elderly need others' help.
In addition, the percentage of senior citizens in the world has increased very quickly, and our society is no exception.
The problem for us is that we have left the care of the elderly to their families.
We must change our attitude toward this issue and develop more systematic social programs.
The sooner we realize the importance of the role of government in this matter, the smaller the final cost to society as a whole will be.

Mae, a Chinese student, appeared in the dormitory room with a bruise on the face.
She felt she was ignored because her American roommate didn't mention it at all.
The wounded student thought that her silent roommate didn't notice or didn't care.
But the American student was purposely not paying attention, thinking Mae might not want to talk about it.
She let the Chinese friend decide whether or not to mention it.
She was being considerate by not imposing, which was the American style.
But Mae, based on the Chinese style, couldn't understand why her roommate didn't care.

Go to any vacant lot and look around.
Under the “no dumping” signs you will find old tires, rusting sinks, junked refrigerators, and other trash.
There are also laws about the care of dogs, but some dog-owners seem to be ignorant of them.
They let their dogs run loose and do not clean up after them.
Perhaps the most disregarded of all laws are our traffic regulations.
More and more drivers are speeding, going through red lights, and double parking on the road.
And some drivers, apparently not even worrying about being fined,
have been parking in spaces clearly marked as reserved for the physically challenged.
These are some examples that show a lack of respect for the law.

In the 1700's and 1800's, the men's role included earning an income to support a family and working in the farms,
while the female's role included the responsibility to have and to care for children, running a household and assisting a husband in farm labor.
Running a household and caring for children was considered a “full-time" job.
Children were taught their roles when they were very young.
Boys were shown how to farm and provide for their future families' as they attended school.
Girls learned how to do the household chores and received only the very basic education.
They were taught how to be wives and mothers.

She was using a walker which he held as he struggled to help her into her coat.

My mother-in-law broke our reverie by saying, "We have just seen a son who loves his mother."
What a lesson for all of us about how to treat others, especially those who require extra patience and care.

If I behave unselfishly, I blame my parents.
They were always willing to help us take care of our pets, and they loaned us their car when we needed wheels.
I also blame them for my ability to do a good job―they encouraged us to work hard and do our best.

Society seems to want to constrict childhood more and more.
Perhaps it has to do with not wanting to be care-givers anymore because we're too busy or fearful.
Society wants kids to grow up more quickly.
It offers them rewards for being more and more adultlike in their behavior rather than childlike.
Children need someone to reassure them that play―their own, unique, imaginative play―is something to be valued.
Children need to be valued for who they are, where they are, and not for something in the future.

More and more people express concern about the appropriate balance of work with leisure and other aspects of their lives.
Thus, they may be less willing to accept overtime assignments or to work long hours or weekends.
Further, there are growing numbers of single-parent families and families in which both spouses work.

A record 6 out of 10 mothers with children under eighteen years old were in the labor force in 1984, compared with only 4 out of 10 in 1970.
These trends create pressures on organizations to be flexible enough in working hours so that children can be picked up from school or taken to the doctor or dentist.
There are also more pressures on organizations and communities to provide day-care centers.

The literature instructor had spent almost the entire class period
lecturing on the life and writing of Edgar Allan Poe. He noticed one
student with a blank stare and decided to try to catch him off guard.
"Mr. Thompson, since you seem uninterested in what I have to say, I can
only conclude that you already have a vast knowledge of Poe. Perhaps you
would care to give the other members of your class the benefit this wisdom
by describing the man in one word." Without a change of expression, the
student replied, "Dead."

Another is that, as Europeans go, the English are not intellectual. They have
a horror of abstract thought; they feel no need for any philosophy or systematic
"world-view." Nor is this because they are "practical," as they are so fond of
claiming for themselves. One has only to look at their methods of town planning
and water supply, their obstinate clinging to everything that is out of date
and a nuisance, a spelling system that defies analysis, and a system of weights
and measures that is intelligible only to the compilers of arithmetic books,
to see how little they care about mere efficiency.

With proper care and guidance, a person grows in his ability to love in
much the same way he grows in size and weight.

In its typical feeding position, a sea otter swims along on its back as
it uses a rock to crack the shellfish on which it feeds. Then, tucking the
rock into a pocketlike fold of skin under its arm(in which it also often
keeps a supply of extra food),it will turn and dive to the bottom for more
shellfish. Otters have been seen playing with rocks and shells, throwing
them from one paw to another for hours at a time.
mother otters usually shelter their young on their chests. If they have to
leave the pups for any length of time, mother otters may wrap them in the
strand of a kelp plant to keep them from drifting away. Although an otter
is large at birth-five to six pounds-it receives maternal care until it is
three or four years old, by which time, like its parents, it can dive to
depths of 100 feet or more.

When my child was six months old, I re-entered the work force. I was anxious
about how I would juggle the morning chores―feeding and dressing the baby
and myself, packing a lunch and the baby's bag, dropping her off at day
care and still getting myself to work on time.
One frantic morning, I strapped the baby in the car seat and pulled out
of the driveway ten minutes ahead of schedule. "Mommy is so efficient,"
I happily told her. My smugness disappeared a few blocks later when I
looked down and realized I was still in my bathrobe.

I have always wondered at the passion many people have to meet the celebrated.
The prestige you acquire by being able to tell your friends that you know
famous men proves only that you are yourself of small account.
The celebrated develop a technique to deal with the persons they come across.
They show the world a mask, often an impressive one, but take care to conceal
their real selves. They play the part that is expected from them, and with
practice learn to play it very well, but you are stupid if you think that
this public performance of theirs corresponds with the man within.

During the attack of Toulon, Napoleon studied Machiavelli with industrious
care. He followed the advice of the Florence Statesman and never kept
his word when it was to his advantage to break it.
The word "gratitude" did not occur in his personal dictionary. Neither,
to be quite fair, did he expect it from others. He was totally indifferent
to human suffering.

Who would care to live in London if it were deserted by its inhabitants,
and if the horn of a motor-car were never to be heard in its streets?
It would be like a hideous city of the death, and you would no more think
of going to it than of going to the Sahara.

He always cultivates people who are useful in his business.

*commit 맡기다 give in trust or charge:
commit one's child to a person (a person's care)

*see 돌보다; 조치를 취하다 attend to; take care:
See that the windows and doors are fastened.

Tips on Caring For Rugs
For people looking for more information on how to conserve rugs and other textiles or wanting to have an expert appraisal performed, the Textile Museum's curators offer several suggestions.
For an appraisal, people can call the American Society of Appraisers at 1-800-272-8258 or write the group at P.O. Box 17265, Washington, D.C.20041.
Meanwhile, the following advice will help keep rugs in good shape:
* Vacuum the underside of your rugs at least twice a year. Dirt migrates to the bottom of the knots.
* Rotate the rugs if possible. Rugs kept in one position attract insects and could fade in one spot from the sun.
* If you have a rug with chemical dyes, it probably will fade. Use window treatments and screens or shades to keep out the sun's rays.
* Do not moth proof. It can be problematic for the dyes. Good housekeeping is better.
* Take care of damage early. Damage to edges and fringes can be easily repaired if caught early. If worn areas are allowed to expand, repair can be costly.
