Today, many robots are used in factories for dangerous tasks.
However, more robots will be used at homes in the future.
Someday all of us will have robots that will be our personal servants.
They will look and behave much like real humans.
We will be able to talk to these mechanical helpers and they will be able to respond in kind.

In schools, we all learned that dinosaurs were slow and cold-blooded reptiles.
However, the opposite may be true.
New scientific evidence shows dinosaurs might have been warm-blooded animals that behaved more like mammals than reptiles.
Such a conclusion can be drawn from the following two facts.
One is the growth patterns of dinosaurs, which are more like those of warm-blooded mammals.
The other is that their body temperatures had to be higher than the air to hatch eggs.

We use and abuse chimpanzees at will for medical research, for entertainment, or simply out of personal greed.
Being blind to their suffering, we don't try to understand how similar they are to us.
Chimpanzees nurture their young and mourn their dead.
They have distinct personalities and can express a variety of emotions from love to rage.
Yet for all their similarities, we appear to think little of their pain and suffering if our interests are served.
Watching chimps lying vacant eyed with tubes dangling from their arms,
we seem to enjoy torturing the creatures who look and behave so much like ourselves.

One night, I recalled the events of the day and how badly I had behaved toward my mother.
Quietly I slipped out of bed and picked up a pencil and paper from the dresser, then tiptoed into the kitchen.
I quickly wrote a short letter asking my mother to forgive me for being so naughty.
I didn't want my brothers and sisters to read my “sorry” note,
so I added a postscript: “Please don't let anyone else see this.”
Then I put the letter under my mother's pillow.

Fashions are the currently accepted styles of appearance and behavior.
The fact that some style is called a "fashion" implies a social recognition that it is temporary and will eventually be replaced by a new style.
In small-scale, traditional communities, fashions are virtually unknown.
In these communities everyone of similar age and sex wears much the same clothing and behaves in much the same way, and there is little change in styles from year to year or even from generation to generation.
In modern societies, however, fashions may change very rapidly indeed: automobile bodies assume new contours every year, and women's hemlines rise and fall with the passage of the seasons.

In most societies there are particular ways of behaving and speaking which are considered to be polite, but these are not the same in all societies.
Forms of behavior and language which are considered to be polite in one society can sometimes seem strange, insincere, or even rude in another.
When learning a new language, it is often necessary to learn new ways of expressing politeness.

Finally, in certain ways, female elephants behave much like female whales.
When an elephant or a whale baby is born, a female friend stays nearby to help the mother.

If we behave in a way that lets others know we are sure of ourselves and that we have a strong sense of personal worth, violence will disappear, except as a last resort to protect ourselves from those who have not yet gotten the message.
Unfortunately, explanations do not change behavior.
We can, however, change ourselves, and this will change the way people think about us.
If you continue to do what you always did, you will get what you always got.
You cannot change the world but you CAN change yourself.
When you behave differently, people will look at you with different eyes.

If I behave unselfishly, I blame my parents.
They were always willing to help us take care of our pets, and they loaned us their car when we needed wheels.
I also blame them for my ability to do a good job―they encouraged us to work hard and do our best.

She is home now - subdued and well-behaved, but still unable to understand why we were upset.
All I could say was, "Wait till you have children of your own."
To every runaway I would like to say, "Go back home where you belong.
You'd be surprised how much parents can forgive.
Their love is unconditional."

When we talk about intelligence, we do not mean the ability to get a good score on a certain test, or even the ability to do well in school; these are at best only indicators of something larger, deeper, and far more important.
By intelligence we mean a style of life, a way of behaving in various situations, and particularly in new, strange, and perplexing situations.
The true test of intelligence is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don't know what to do.

Some people are so changed by their life's experience that in old age they behave in completely unexpected ways.
Many of us know elderly men and women who no longer act as we have come to expect them to act.
I am not talking here about victims of senile dementia.
In the examples I am thinking of the person continues to behave in what most people would agree is a normal manner, but one so remote from his old self that he appears, to those who know him, to be someone else entirely.

No man ever behaved more grandly when(he was) unjustly condemned
to die than did Socrates.

That anthropologist has become so familiar with the diversity of ways in
which different people behave in similar situations that he is not apt to be
surprised by even the most exotic customs.

That all men are equal is an assertion to which, at ordinary times, no
sane human being has ever given his assent. A man who has to undergo a
dangerous operation does not act on the supposition that one doctor is
just as good as another.
And when they require Civil Servants, even the most democratic governments
make a careful selection among their theoretically equal subjects.
At ordinary times, we are perfectly certain that men are not equal.
But when, in a democratic country, we think or act politically we are
no less certain that men are equal. Or at any rate―which comes to the
same thing in practice―we behave as though we were certain of men's
equality.

질서정연한 군중 an orderly crowd

I hate him! He behaves as if he were somebody.

Recently, I was in a restaurant when a woman and a young boy sat down
at the neighboring table. I happened to hear their conversation, The
woman asked: "So, how have you been?". And the boy, no more than seven
or eight years old, replied, "Frankly, I've been a little depressed
lately." This remained in my mind because it strengthened my belief that
children were changing. As I remember, my friend and I didn't realize we
were "depressed" until high school. The proof of a change in children has
been increasing steadily. Children don't seem childlike anymore. Children
speak, dress, and behave more like adults than in the past. Little girls
wearing earrings and designer dresses are not uncommon. Boys wearing
hairs styles like movie stars aren't rare anymore. These changes are not
without reason. In the past, children learned the secrets of adulthood
very slowly. Today, however, TV, computers, and the media are pushing
children into adult roles. Indeed, the amount of information available to
children is quickening the beginning of adulthood.

The Ashanti people in Africa name their children according to the day of
the week on which they are born. They believe that Monday boys are quiet
and well-behaved. But Wednesday boys are said to easily get angry and
upset. A recent report on the behavior of Ashanti children shows that it
true. Monday boys are less frequently fighting than chance would have it,
while Wednesday boy are more likely to quarrel. This finding suggests
that names can have a powerful effect upon personal behavior.

I believe the reflective portion of mankind is divided into two groups:
those who are interested in people and care about them; and those who are interested in ideas.
The first group forms the pragmatists and tends to make the best statesmen.
The second is the intellectuals;
and if their attachment to ideas is passionate, and not only passionate but programmatic, they are almost certain to abuse whatever power they acquire.
For, instead of allowing their ideas of government to emerge from people, shaped by observation of how people actually behave and what they really desire, intellectuals reverse the process, deducing their ideas first from principle and then seeking to impose them on living men and women.

A: Hello, darling. How are you?
B: Terrible, Mum. My back is killing me, the children are behaving
badly, the house is so untidy―and I'm expecting six guests for dinner.
A: Don't worry, darling. I'm coming right over to help you.
B: You're an angel! How's Dad?
A: Dad? ...... Sweetheart, you know Dad died nine years ago.
B: What number are you calling?.
A: 707-5869.
B: This is 707-5868.
A: Oh no, I dialed the wrong number.
B: Hold on, please. Does this mean you are not coming over?
A: 여보세요, 얘야.
A: 707-5869.

Jane and Mary had been homebodies most of their lives. After their kids
were grown, they decided to take a trip around the world. Of course,
they were inexperienced travelers and had trouble accepting the customs
of foreign countries. Their guide suggested that they should make an
effort to follow the customs of the local people and not expect to
behave in a foreign country as they would at home. Once they began to
follow this advice, they enjoyed their trip much more.

After more than twenty years as president of a company, I discovered that successful employees behave in similar ways and share common attitudes.

If you want to move up, here are some principles I think you need to know.

Moviegoers can be classified according to the way they behave.
Some people talk normally.
When they come into the theater with someone, they talk quietly until the movie starts.
Once the movie starts, they don’t make comments to each other.

Wild dogs live together in groups.
They use some gestures to communicate with one another.
For example, they say, “You are more important than I am,” by lying down in front of a more important dog.
Sometimes they use some action to teach their young how to behave properly in the group.

Okay, well, if she always behaves like this, why don't you say something?

Do you understand how you're to behave
when we make the announcement?
And if I don't play along?

Yeah, and I just heard her tell Milo you were at Division and you might be there all day.
- Who did she hear that from? - She said she just talked to you.
- Nina, what is going on? - We can't trust Jamey.
- Jack said CTU had been infiltrated. - Are you saying Jamey's a spy?
Why else would she lie? She must think I'm dead.
- Why would she think that? - I'll explain later. You have to bring me in.
OK. I'll come get you.
No. Stay there. Act as if everything's all right.
Jack behaved very strangely when he was at CTU. These people must be watching us.
I dunno, probably through our own surveillance.
All right, look, I'll send a car. What's your address?

- Hey. I'm here. - Bad timing?
No problem. I just could have used a few more minutes.
I wish I had 'em. Gimme what you got.
All right. He's the oldest of three children. His father died when he was a boy.
Means he learned responsibility early.
ln college at 16. lntelligent.
First in his class. Vice president of a company three years later.
OK. So he's ambitious, driven. Maybe too much so.
- He has a heart condition. - I know. I've got his pills.
He's very organised.
No charities, no...
He's not generous with time or money. Anal. I'd guess passive-aggressive. Control freak.
So make him sweat it out for a while, assume control, then behave erratically.
Yeah. One more thing. Um, a hunch, really.
With people this tightly wound, the threat of pain can be more effective than pain itself.
This is all just guesswork. I could have done more if I'd had time.
You did great. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Guys. The mother didn't do it.
What?
Listen.
What did you do Robbie?
What did you do?
I was watching the boys.
I had my eye on them, I did.
Yeah, but then you called your girlfriend.
And we got to talking.
And I was kind of ignoring Zack and Robbie.
They were being quiet. They were behaving.
And I turned around. I saw how still he was.
and I ran to him and he was dead.

Stop it !
But, mom!
No,
안돼
you are going to behave today.
I am not going to be humiliated in front of the entire neighborhood.
And just so you know how serious I am...
what's that?
Santa's cell phone number.
How'd you get that?
I know someone who knows someone who knows an elf,
and if any of you acts up, so help me, I will call Santa,
and I will tell him you want socks for Christmas.
You willing to risk that?
Okay. Let's get this over with.

Out. Can't behave, you heard me, you cannot ride.
You, out. Move it.
- Where's mom going? - I don't know.
Mommy's a genius.
5, 6 -- alright.
I will be right back.

Boys?
If you're hiding, you've got to stop now, 'cause mommy doesn't think it's funny!
Oh, excuse me.
I'm sorry. I'm looking for my boys. Three boys with red hair.
- Have you seen them? - Yeah. I also saw you drive away and leave them.
I know. I was just trying to scare them into behaving.

Your kids both went to Barcliff Academy, didn't they?
Yes.

We need you to recommend Porter and Preston.
We can't even get an interview.
Oh, you, um, want me to recommend the twins?
Yes. You can tell them how beautifully behaved the boys are.
So you want me to lie.
Yeah. I thought that was understood.
Well, it's just that I'm very well-respected at Barcliff,
and, um, my word won't be good there anymore.

You know -- you know, I-I -- you know what I think?
I think you never intended to do the whipple.
I think this entire thing has been bull,
and you're behaving like the only reason she's in this hospital is to die.

You wanted me to take you back, I took you back here in seattle.
See? Once again, it's all about what he wants. She's not listening to me. I'm not gonna move
back to manhattan. I am not the same person. I know. You're a flannel wearing,
wood chopping fisherman. I get it. I'm not gonna talk to her anymore
if she's gonna behave like this. Fine.

Okay, well, whatever it is doesn't start for two weeks,
so you're still in my newsroom
and you're behaving in a way that is bothering me.
- Gotta be blunt. - Got it.

Presidents and kings are ordinary individuals just like
entrepreneurs, intellectuals and farmers. They are compelled
to *gratify the same instinctual needs as everyone else. They
should, therefore, enjoy the same right to privacy that the
rest of us do. Granted people have an *inherent expectation
of their president to behave differently from the common
people. They expect he should, as their highest
representative, exhibit exemplary moral conduct.

leave it at that:
I know you think James behaved very badly, but he did
apologize, so why not leave it at that?

A:Don't shout at me. You'd better be careful. Don't call me names.
B:Damn it.
A:Swearing again?
B:Sorry, but I can't help it. I think I'll have to go gargle.
A:I don't Iike to accompany you, to be frank with you, but I'll go t

B:Darn it.
A:Sorry for asking, but can't you open your mouth without swearing?
B:Darn it, whoops. sorry! If I don't use foul Ianguage, it seems Iik
e I didn't finish my words.
A:Please behave yourself.
A:또 욕이야?
I can't help it:어쩔 도리가 없다.

라는 식으로 된 'If I had been in your shoes…'
A:I had a serious argument with my wife.
B:I thought you rarely have an argument with your wife.
A:That's true, but last night I couldn't help it.
My wife hit the ceiling when she found that I was drunk.
She shouted at me, so I did the same thing to her.
B:I don't think it was a good thing to do. If I had been in your shoes,
I would have behaved differently.
A:Like what?
B:Oh, Put on shoes in which you can run fastest and run away.
A:어떻게 말인가?
<어구풀이>I couldn't help it=어쩔 도리가 없었다.(=It couldn't be helped)
hit the ceiling=화가 나다.
behave=행동하다.

Could you stop saying "study hard"?
Could you stop saying "behave yourself"?
Could you stop saying "be good at school"?

Louanne: If you hit those kids you'll pay for it, I swear.

Get to your class and behave yourself!
Angela : YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT.
Louanne: Why not?
Angela : 'Cause you just shouldn't mess with Emilio.
Louanne: Wait a minute! Wait, no! Give me, just give me a minute.

YOU PROMISED!

Rex : I FORBID YOU TO TALK TO OR CONSORT WITH THAT DUCK, ever.
Do I make myself clear?
Babe: What's 'consort'?
Rex : It means, young man, that you must not go anywhere near that
duck.
As for the fugitive duck, when he shows himself, let him kn

Being a duck, he must behave like a duck. No more of this
crowing nonsense.

He should accept what he is and be thankful for it. THAT
GOES FOR ALL OF US.

Cow : Hear, hear.
* Hear! 찬성이요.
Narrator : Rex continued long into the night.
