next spring, its Nomad 2 digital player that includes a backlit screen
for displaying title, track and other information. Prices of $300-$400
feature up to 1 hour of playing time.

Available in metallic gray and translucent teal or purple, it comes with
64 megabytes of RAM - enough onboard memory to store about an hour of
near-CD quality sound. It has a nice backlit display which shows song
title, track time and remaining battery power, and is compatible with
both PCs and Macs.

The Rio's supporting software is user-friendly, but it takes an effort to

500 was the only unit reviewed that can be upgraded to accept the secure
music formats of the future.
