Eisenhower's major virtue, which appeared less important in 1962 than it does
now, was a sense of proportion; he had an instinctive knowledge of what could be
done and, more important, what could not be done. As far back as 1951, for example,
when the French were fighting in Viet Nam, he forsaw nothing but swamps. "I'm
convinced that no military victory is possible in that kind of theater," he noted. In
1955 members of his Cabinet predicted imminent war with Red China in the Formosa
Strait. Ike knew better: "I have so often been through these periods of strain
that I have become accustomed to the fact that most of the calamities that we
anticipate really never occur."

I will do my best to reinforce the lecture with as many live examples
as possible. The lectures should give the people attending at least an
idea of the problems concerned, though, of course, application would
require a far more elaborate curriculum as well as time.

의미가 있습니다. 하나는 better than others, easily seen, 또
다른 하나는 not yet done (paid) 로서 여기에서는 후자쪽의
의미가 더 적당합니다. There are no outstanding problems.
=There are no problems that have to be solved. 라는 것입니다.
Both parties는 「계약의 담당자 쌍방」을 의미하며 한쪽은 one
party입니다.

CONCLUSION OF A CONTRACT
Mr. Lee: I think we've finally reached the stage where we can
conclude a business agreement.
Mr. West: Right. There are no outstanding problems as far as
I can see.
Mr. Lee: All that remains is to sign the document.
Mr. West: Yes. I don't think any important items have been
left out.
Mr. Lee: I agree, but we can change minor details later, if
both parties agree to it.
Mr. West: Right. Now when do we sign it?
Mr. Lee: I'm sure you want to do it as soon as possible. But
we need a little ceremony, and my boss wants to attend the
signing. So shall we make it 10 tomorrow morning?
Mr. West: Fine. I know tomorrow is a lucky day according to
the old calendar.

알아둘 일
계약의 체결은 경사로운 일이며, 관계자 사이에 간단한 축하연을
할 만한 일인데, 본래 계약은 상호신뢰의 마음으로 이것을
이행하고, 문제가 있을 때에는 성심 성의껏 우호적인 마음으로
해결을 꾀하는 것이 원칙이며, 장난 삼아 위반에 대한 penalties?
주는 것은 바람직하지 않습니다. 계약의 조인식은 확실하게
입회인도 정해서 행하고, 그 후에 party나 기념회 luncheon을
하는 것이 좋습니다. 그리고 상대에 Thank you for your support.
Thank for your consideration. 등의 치하하는 말을 하는 것도
잊어서는 안됩니다.
부정적인 생각은 되도록 멀리 하며 긍정적인 사고로 자기 암시를 하는 것이 좋다.
It is better to keep negative thoughts as far away as possible and make self-assertions with positive thinking.
지금까지 광주와 전남에서 3명의 확진자가 나오고 접촉자만 수백명이 넘지만 당분간 시·도 보건환경연구원과 전남대병원 3곳에서만 검사가 가능할 것으로 보인다.
So far, there have been three confirmed cases and more than hundreds of contacts in Gwangju and Jeonnam. However, it expects that tests will be possible only at three facilities such as the City and Provincial Research Institutes of Public Health and Environment, and Chonnam National University Hospital for the time being.
