actuation 〔｀æｋｔ∫ｕ´ｅｉ∫∂ｎ〕 발동(충동)작용
Plants are known to react to environmental pressures such as wind, rain,
and even human touch. Coastal trees, for example, become shorter and
stronger in response to strong winds and heavy rainfall. In a laboratory
study conducted at Stanford University, the same changes in plant growth
patterns were brought about by touching plants twice a day. The
researchers also found that these growth changes resulted from gene
activation. Their findings indicate that this gene actuation did not
occur unless there was direct stimulation.
식물은 바람, 비, 심지어 인간의 접촉과 같은 환경적인 영향에 반응한다고
알려져 있다. 예를 들어, 해안의 나무는 강풍과 폭우에 반응하여 더 짧고
강해진다. 스탠포드대학에서 행해진 실험실 연구에서, 1일 2회 식물을
