Such a great writer as Shakespeare was not aware of the usage of the word "know-how". It is quite natural since it has been coined by the Americans even if the word is now in vogue all over the world. Therefore the key of making America what it is now can be found in the trend of changing "why to do" into "how to do". Napoleon was that a fool to the question "why do you wage a war?" But he was an imperishable genius able to win so many by making standardization of the grooves of the screws which had been used in jointing and disjointing the cannons.

Therefore, Taekwondo emphasizes training the mind and the spirit as well as the body.

Abraham Lincoln showed his concern for everyday Americans while trying to lead his country through its greatest crisis.
Lincoln devoted one day a week to reading mail from the people and answering with notes on the back of the page.
Not surprisingly, many letters were written to seek jobs or other favors.
The president often tried to help these ordinary people even though they were strangers to power and influence.

Finding evidence doesn't always mean a criminal will be convicted.
Proving that a person is guilty or innocent of a crime is the job of lawyers.
One of the most famous lawyers of all time was Clarence Darrow.
Darrow was very famous in America around the start of the twentieth century.
He often defended people who were thought to be guilty and took on many unpopular cases.
In particular, he defended poor people who usually would not be able to afford a good lawyer.
During trials, he was a great speaker and argued very well.
He won many cases, even when the evidence was against him.

I wonder how many people give up just when success is almost within reach.
They endure day after day, and just when they're about to make it, decide they can't take any more.
The difference between success and failure is not that great.
Successful people have simply learned the value of staying in the game until it is won.
Those who never make it are the ones who quit too soon.
When things are darkest, successful people refuse to give up because they know they're almost there.
Things often seem at their worst just before they get better.
The mountain is steepest at the summit, but that's no reason to turn back.

In July 2001, the European Union passed a law requiring all food products from GM crops to be clearly marked.
Many countries have stopped further planting until there are more health checks.
Moreover, public concern is so great in some countries that food companies are ending the use of GM crops altogether.
So, people around the world are starting to ask the question: Just how safe are these new ¡°designer¡± foods?

All desert plants have tricks for dealing with great heat and long periods of dryness, or drought.
Many small desert plants appear on the landscape only when heavy rains fall.
These plants ¡°wait out¡± periods of drought underground.
They exist for months or even years as seeds buried in the soil.
When rains come, these seeds spring to life.
The young plants quickly grow into adult plants and, in turn, throw out a new bunch of seeds before they die.
All this happens within a few weeks.

Many foreigners are amazed by the Georgians' respect and love for mothers.
In the Georgian language, ¡°motherland¡± is the word for native country, the capital city is the ¡°mother city,¡± and the earth is ¡°the mother earth.¡± Another characteristic of Georgians is their love for their homeland.
Because all Georgians have great love for their country, they don't like to leave it for too long.

You probably can recognize this situation
because it is just one of many examples where men and women quarrel.
This problem is not just Tom and Mary¡¯s but is present in almost every relationship.
Solving this problem for Tom and Mary depends not on how much they loved each other
but on how much they understood the opposite sex.
Without knowing that women really do need to talk about problems to feel better,
Tom would continue to think Mary talked too much and resist listening to her.
Without knowing that Tom was reading the news to feel better, Mary would feel ignored and neglected.
She would persist in trying to get him to talk when he didn¡¯t want to.
These two differences can be resolved by first understanding in greater detail how men and women cope with stress.

When my grandmother began to have problems in seeing, hearing and walking, a number of family meetings were held.
We discussed what we should do for her.
We talked of placing her in a nursing home, but that idea was quickly given up.
Although my grandmother would be with more people of her own age, she would see even less of her family, and that would break her heart.
Mother would not allow her own mother to grow old and weak in a strange place.
She said, ¡°I will not let Grandmother end up in a nursing home,¡±
and I admire my mother greatly for this decision.
It was not an easy decision for her.
When so many others are running away from the problem of what they should do about their old parents, my mother stands out remarkably.

Convinced that education is their best hope for the future,
many Kenyan parents are willing to make great sacrifices to send their children to high school.
They quickly discover, however, that there are not enough schools for everyone.
Even the high schools run by the government are too expensive for many families.
Kenyans have found an answer to the problem in harambee, a word that means self-help.
As part of the harambee movement, many villages built their own high schools.
Villagers organized fund-raising campaigns instead of expecting their government to help them.
Church groups donated some of the money.
Those who had no money to give donated their labor.

I have heard so many good things about your camp from my friends.
I am eighteen years of age and a graduate of North Hills High School in Pittsburgh.
At present I am completing my first year at Temple University.
During the past seven summers I have gained invaluable experience through my dealings with children of all ages.
For five of these summers I was a camper at Camp Walden, Massachusetts.
I participated in all the camp activities and I was able to discover what qualities campers want most in their counselors.
For the last two seasons I was a counselor at the same camp.
If you feel that I measure up to your qualifications for the counselor,
I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know when and where I may meet you.

Such effects of exercise on brain development can even be seen in babies.
Babies who are more physically active show greater brain development than babies who are less physically active.
With babies, even a little movement can show big results.
Pediatricians believe in the importance of exercise.
They think that many learning disabilities that children have in school can be traced back to a lack of movement as babies.

It is a great honor for me to present a woman who I'm sure many of you have admired over the years.
She began her impressive work at Clark College.
There she majored in biology and graduated at the top of her class.
From there she went on to Adams Medical School, one of the finest medical research institutions in the nation,
where she first began to show an interest in genetic technology.
After graduating from Adams, again with honors, she continued to work in the field of genetics at the advanced think tank.
You will not find a finer research doctor anywhere in the world.
So, without any further delay, it is my pleasure to present Dr.
Brenda Walsh.

For the past half-century, those lucky enough to have been born in a rich country have had every prospect of growing richer.
On average, incomes in Britain, America and Japan have easily doubled over that time.
On top of this come the benefits of longer lives of better quality, thanks to advances in medicine
and to a plethora of consumer goods making living easier and more enjoyable.
You might even expect folks to be a great deal happier today than in the 1950s.
You would be wrong, according to many surveys taken in rich countries.
These tend to show that, once a country has lifted itself out of poverty,
further rises in income seem not to create a meaningful rise in the proportion of people who consider themselves as happy.

Children come to kindergarten with a great range of abilities.
Some children are already reading.
On the other hand, some children don't catch onto the reading lesson until they're seven or eight.
These children are perfectly normal, just a little late.
If you are a parent or teacher of one of these children, don't nag.
Instead, soothe yourself and the child by remembering that children learn to walk and talk at different rates, and that late bloomers catch up.
Many problems, such as the inability to concentrate and write letters correctly, are natural to young children and will be outgrown in time.

A great part of our lives is occupied in reverie, and the more imaginative
we are the more varied and vivid this will be. How many of us could face
having our reveries automatically registered and set before us?
We should be overcome with shame. We should cry that we could not really
be as mean, as wicked, as petty, as selfish, as obscene, as snobbish,
as vain, as sentimental, as that. Yet surely our reveries are as much
part of us as our actions, and if there were a being to whom our inmost
thoughts were known we might just as well be held responsible for them
as for our deeds. Men forget the horrible thoughts that wander through
their own minds, and are indignant when they discover them in others.

One of the greatest dangers of living in large towns is that we have too

The processes of creative activity display several striking features.
One of the most frequent is the occurrence of flashes of insight outside
the hours of regular work, during periods of physical activity or at odd
moments of relaxation. So familiar is this phenomenon that many have
taken advantage of it.
Haydn, the great musician, says, "When my work does not advance, I
retire into the chapel and say a prayer; immediately ideas come to me."
Many, like Hamilton, have found that walking encourages the appearance
of ideas.
Many persons devoted to creative work have carried scraps of paper with
them everywhere so that nothing of the precious flashes of revelation
may be lost.

apparent misfortune was for them an exceedingly fortunate thing.
If Walter Scott had not been crippled by disease as a child, he might
not have stayed in the country that made him a great poet and a romancer.
One hears of so many instances, indeed, of bad luck turning into good
that one sometimes wonders whether one ought not to be sorry for the
people to whom the apparently unlucky things happen.

Health is generally regarded as a private property. There have indeed been
slogans which have emphasized this, often inaccurately. It is not true, as
sometimes claimed, that "health is wealth." There are many healthy people
who are not wealthy and also the other way around.
Another slogan is to the effect that life is not worth living without good
health. Certainly it is true that good health contributes greatly to the
joy of living and should be preserved and cherished. At the same time there
are many handicapped persons who have been able to make a good life for
themselves and to set a notable example to their fellow human beings by
the courageous way in which they have faced and conquered disability,
disease, and suffering. Obviously it is foolish to sacrifice health
needlessly. It is just as unwise to lie down and give up when your health
is impaired.

They say it is lucky to find a four-leafed clover, but I rarely heard of
anybody finding one by actually looking for it.
Your chances of coming across one are slightly improved if you happen to
be an observant person, and you can become observant by training your
own faculties.
But however observant you may become, your hopes of finding a four-leafed
clover are still slim. It is an odd fact that many of the greatest
discoveries have been, in effect, stumbled upon¡ªbut usually by people
whose minds were in a condition to perceive them, who by training and
inclination were looking in the right direction.
However, the moment of revelation has seldom been coldly
calculated¡ªin art, never.

He has, we may suppose, a charming house, a charming wife, and charming
children. He wakes up early in the morning while they are still asleep
and hurries off to his office.
There it is his duty to display the qualities of a great executive; he
cultivates a firm jaw, a decisive manner of speech, and an air of
sagacious reserve calculated to impress everybody except the office boy.
He dictates letters, converses with various important persons on the
phone, studies the market, and presently has lunch with some person
with whom he is conducting or hoping to conduct a deal.
The same sort of thing goes on all the afternoon. He arrives home, tired,
just in time to dress for dinner. At dinner he and a number of other
tired men have to pretend to enjoy the company of ladies who have no
occasion to feel tired yet. How many hours it may take the poor man
to escape, it is impossible to foresee.

When are we most creative? Some reporters looked at daily and monthly
records kept by many famous people such as Goethe and Charles Darwin.
These studies indicated that great artists, writers, musicians, and
scientists tend to have peaks of creativity every 7.6 months, followed
by a low period.
Moreover, the studies propose that high points of creativity come in a
longer seven-year pattern. Possibly, we all have high points and low
points in our creative cycles. This may be the reason why we have
"good days" or "bad days" at work, or do well or poorly on an exam.

Ever since the first celebration of BLACK HISTORY WEEK, many gentlemen
have raised the question : "Why do we celebrate a week by calling
attention to the achievements of one group, African-American?" The answer
is quite simple : because the outstanding achievements of
African-Americana have been stolen or overlooked, despite their great
significance. America being a cultural melting pot, all Americans need to
learn about each other and appreciate the contributions made by the
various racial groups.

Beads are miniature bundles of secrets waiting to be revealed : their
history, manufacture, cultural context, economic role, and ornamental
use are all points of information one hopes to unravel. Even the most
mundane beads may have traveled great distances and been exposed to many
human experiences. The bead researcher must gather information from many
diverse fields. In addition to having to be a generalist while
specializing in what may seem to be a narrow field, the researcher is
faced with the problem of primary materials that have little or no
documentation. Many ancient beads that are of ethnographic interest have
often been separated from their original cultural context.

But the Great Basin has not always been so arid. Many of its dry, closed
depressions were once filled with water. Owens Valley, Panamint Valley,
and Death Valley were once a string of interconnected lakes. The two
largest of the ancient lakes of the Great Basin were Lake Lahontan and
Lake Bonneville. The Great Salt Lake is all that remains of the latter,
and Pyramid Lake is one of the last briny remnants of the former.

For almost 140 million years, dinosaurs ruled the land, sky and sea.
Dinosaurs came in sizes and shapes suited to every corner of the world.
Then, approximately 65 million years ago, these huge reptiles died out
completely. Few mysteries have ever excited the imaginations of
scientists as much as this great extinction. Over the years, scientists
have developed many theories to explain this event. There of the most
common explanations are a gradual change in the Earth's climate, a lack
of food, and the Earth's collision with a large asteroid.

The biological sonar, or echolocation, of bats and a number fo other animals
