Students and parents need to be more sensible in choosing a school,
not just picking one because it is a foreign institution. Hopefully, the
market opening policy will be instrumental in discouraging students
from going abroad to study because this represents an enormous
financial burden and there are other risks associated with studying
overseas.

(1) worsen : If a situation worsens, especially one that is already
bad, it becomes worse
(ex) The weather worsened during the night.
(2) deteriorate : to gradually get worse
(3) deepen : If a bad situation deepens, especially a serious political
or military problem, it gets worse.
(ex) As the crisis deepened it became clear that the government was
losing control.
(4) go downhill : to start getting worse, especially after a particular
time or a particular event
(ex) My career has gone downhill since my illness.
(5) go down the tubes : an informal expression meaning to very quickly
get worse until nothing can be done to save a situation or make it
better again
(ex) Our marriage was going down the tubes, and there was nothing I
could do about it.
(6) aggravate : to make a bad or difficult situation even worse
(ex) This existing situation was aggravated by the Gulf war.

S1 : Why can't we grow our hair long at school?
I don't think there is difference between long and short hair.
S2 : I agree with you! I don't think long hair is bad.
S1 : When do you think our school is going to let us have any hair style we want?
S2 : Maybe soon. Don't make it an issue.
S1 : Why not?
S2 : Not every teacher and student agrees.
S1 : I think most students agree. Our opinion is just as important as the opinion of others.
S2 : You may be right.

Someone is outside the classroom.

Mr. Kim, Tae-su seems to be sick.

I think I'm going to throw up.

Please take him to the infirmary quickly.

Jack is a good leader.
If you ever had a chance to join any of his group meetings, you would notice right away that he enjoys guiding others.
He always encourages them to participate in what is going on.
When there are decisions to be made, he listens to everyone's opinions and respects their suggestions.
So people cannot but like him very much, The only bad thing I can say about him is that I don't see him often enough.
Jack

Nearly all runaways come from homes in which there are clear problems.
In any case, it is important for parents to be aware of the possibility that their child may run away,
and to be aware of the warning signs that often precede it.
One is a sudden change in behavior.
This change may be one of eating or sleeping habits.
Changes in social habits can also indicate problems, particularly when a teenager becomes withdrawn from friends and outside contacts.
If a young person begins to show sudden mood swings, going from very happy to very sad, for example,
there is a good chance that he or she is undergoing some sort of stress that is difficult to resolve.

Rumor has it that … : …라는 소문[풍문]이 있다 (=There is a rumor that …)
Rumor has it that there will be a General Election in the fall.
Rumor has it that the factory's going to shut down.

A:Is this L.A. Taxi? Would you please send a taxi to Seoul Buffet in
Korea Town? I'm going to LAX.
B:All right. When would you like it?
A:As soon as possible.
B:There will be a taxi within ten minutes. Thank you.
Taxi!
When do you need a taxi?
10분 이내는 within ten minutes이고, in ten minutes는 at the end of ten

The Boxer
Simon & Garfunkel
I am just a poor boy
Though my story is seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocketful of mumbles,
Such are promises, all lies, and jest
Still, a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest Mm mm....
When I left my home and my family
I was no more than a boy
In the company of strangers,
In the quiet of a railway station
Running scared, laying low,
Seeking out the poorer quarters
Where the ragged people go
Looking for the places only they would know
Lie-la-lie
Asking only workman's wages
I come looking for a job
But I get no offers
Just a "come on" from the whores on Seventh Avenue
I do declare there were times whenIwas so lonesome
I took some comfort there Ooo-la-la
Then I'm laying out my winter clothes
And wishing I was gone, going home
Where the New York City winters aren't bleeding me
Leading me, going home
In the clearing stands a boxer
And a fighter byhis trade
And he carries the reminders
Of every glove that laid him down
Or cut him till he cried out
In his anger and his shame
I am leaving, I am leaving
But the fighter still remains
-
* lay out - 정리하다(arrange),준비하다(prepare).
There were glasses laid out as though there was going to be a
party.
* clearing
* a fighter by his trade
He follows the trade of fiction.
I'm a fixer by trade.(제 직업은 수리공입니다.)
* But the fighter still remains -
* I have squandered ......mumbles -
데 이 노래에 나오는 mumbles(의미없이 중얼거리는 말), 즉 확실하지
* for a pocketful... 의 for는 in exchange for (~과 교환하여) 정도
* Such are......jest - 앞 문장의 mumbles의 내용을 설명하는 말이다.
* Still, a man......rest -그럼에도불구하고(still) 이 권투선수는
이 노래를 만든 Paul Simon은 he 대신 'a man'이라는 표현을
* In the company of strangers -
못한 분위기 (the atmosphere is uncomfortable).
When a man does something wrong and can't take responsibility,
all he can do is running scared.
(being inconspicuous).
* poorer quarter - 빈민가.
* get no offers - (일자리를 수소문 해보았지만) 어느 곳에서도 오라
* "come on"......Avenue - 뉴욕시의 7번가는 Brooklyn 근처에 있는 홍
등가 (red light district)를 말하는데 여기에서의 "come on"은 매춘
" Hi baby, are you looking for something? Can I help you? Come
on,baby! "
* I do declare - 고백하건대(I confess).

End of the road
Boyz II man
We belong together and you know that I'm right
Why do you play with my heart
Why do you play with my mind
You said we'd be forever, said it's never die
How could you love me and leave me
And never say good bye
When I can't sleep at night
Without holding you tight
Girl, each time I try, I just break down and cry
Pain in my head, oh, I'd rather be dead
Spinning around and around
**
Although we've come to the end of the road
Still I can't let go
It's unnatural
You belong to me, I belong to you
Come to the end of the road
Still I can't let go
It's unnatural
You belong to me, I belong to you
-
Girl I know you really love me
You just don't realize
You've never been there before
It's only your first time
Maybe I'll forgive you, maybe you'll try
We shouldn't be happy together forever
You and I
Will you love me again like you loved me before
This time I want you to love me much more
This time instead just come to my bed
And baby don't let me down
-
** repeat
-
Girl I'm here for you
I'm not out to go out there and cheat all night
Just like you did baby, but that's all right
Huh, I love you anyway
And I'm still going to be here for you
Till my dying day, baby
Right now I'm just in so much pain, baby
'Cause you just won't come back to me, will you ?
Just come back to me
-
Yes, baby my heart is lonemy
My heart hurts baby
Yes, I feel pain, too
Baby please

** repeat twice

-

Runaway train
Soul Asylum
Call you up in the middle of the night
Like a firefly without a light
You were there like a blowtorch burnin'
I was a key that could use a little turnin'
So tired that I couldn't even sleep
So many secrets I couldn't keep
Promised myself I wouldn't breathe
One more promise I couldn't keep
It seems no one can help me now
I'm in too deep there's no way out
This time I have really led myself astray
-
**
Run away train never going back
Wrong way on a one way track
Seems like I should be getting somewhere
Somehow I'm neither here nor there
-
Can you help me remember how to smile
Make it somehow all seems worthwhile
How on earth did I get so jaded
Life's mystery seems so faded
I can go where no one else can go
I know what no one else knows
Here I am just drowin' in the rain
With a ticket for a runway train
Everything is cut and dry,
Day and night, earth and sky
Somehow I just don't believe it
-
** repeat
-
Bought a ticket for a runaway train
Like a madman laughin' at the rain
Little out of touch, little insane
Just easier than feelin' with the pain
-
** repeat
-
Runaway train never coming back
Runaway train tearin' up the track
Runaway train burnin' in my veins
Runaway but it always seems the stay

-

Superwoman
Kyran White
Early in the morning
I put breakfast at your table
And make sure that your coffee
Has its sugar and cream
Your eggs are over easy your toast done lightly
All that's missing is your morning kiss
That used to greet me
-
Now you say the juice is sour
It used to be so sweet
And I can't help but wonder
If you're talking about me
We don't talk the way we used to talk
It's hurting so deep
I've got my price I will not cry
But it's making me weak
-
**
I'm not your superwoman
-
I'm not the kind of girl that you can let down
And think that everything's okay
Boy I am only human
This girl needs more than an occasional hug
As token of love from you to me
-
I've found my way through the rush hour
Try to make it home just for you
I want to make sure
That your dinner will be waiting for you
But when you get there
You just tell me you're not hungry at all
You said you'd rather read the paper
And you don't want to talk
You like to think that I'm just crazy
When I say that you've changed
-
I'm convinced I know the problem
You don't love me the same
You're just going through the motions
And you're not being fair
I've got my pride
I will not cry
Still I can't help but care
-
** repeat twice
-
Look into the corners of your mind
I'll always be there for you
Through good and bad times
But I can't be that superwoman
That you want me to be
I'll give my love oh lasting love
If you really tell you're love to me
-
** repeat
-
If you feel it in your heart and you understand me
Stop right where you are
Everybody sing along with me
-
i'm the kind of girl
That can treat you so sweet
But you gotta realize
That you gotta be sweeter to me
I need love
I need just your love

-

There's goding to be a storm tonight.

Iwonder what the magnitude is on that.

Watch out for the tidal waves.
The paper says there was a big earthquake in South America.
I saw that. Said it caused mudsides to bury a town.
I guess it had been raining for a week.

It's amazing what a flood can do.
The Kobe earthquake was a terrible calamity.
A jet airliner crashed and killed moer than a hundred people last night.
There's a fire!
Hurry Get out!
Put the fire out!
Call fire department!
What caused the fire?
A cigarette caused the fire.
We have to be careful.
In case of fire, leave the building immediately.
My garage is on fire!
I'll call the fire station immediately, and have the fire engine sent to you.
In case of fire,
1.leave the building immediately
2.never open a door that feels hot
3.craql on the floor when going through a smoke filled area
4.do not run if your clothing should catch fire
5.do not return to the building for any reason.

The pluralistic vision of the human aspiration to live a good life must
not be interpreted on the model of there being a common destination that
we may reach in different ways. The notion of a common destination is
itself deeply at odds with pluralism. If a metaphor is wanted, artistic
creation is perhaps less unsatisfactory than others. We make our lives
the way artists make works of art. We and artists start from some
context, some tradition, some educa- tional influences on us; we are
limited by what we bring to it by way of talents, imagination, and
skill, as well as by the available possibilities and by the demands and
expectations of other people in our context; and then we do what we can,
and we succeed, fail, or banally fall somewhere in between. But the
product, the life or the work of art, is going to be different in each
case, because the contributions made to it by the tradition, by our
individuality, and by the mixture we concoct of the two are also
different.

All right, I'll tell you what.
Dick Peters is going to retire this term.
That means there's an open race in the fourth district.
How about I help you lock up that seat?
I'm not looking to make a deal, Frank.
It's not a deal.
It's an opportunity.
I'll be just fine.
됐어

Mom told you what's been going on?
Is Keith goin' to jail?
- Not if it happened the way he says it did. - It did.
Then he'll be fine.
Is he coming to the breakfast?
I hope so.
Listen, I know it's a lot to ask.
Don't worry, Dad.
I'll be there.

- When is Nina coming back? - Probably not for a couple of hours.
What makes you say that?
- I just talked to her. - When?
Couple of minutes ago. She's at Division. It's possible she'll be there all day.
What do you need?
Never mind.
Look, if somebody doesn't tell me what's going on, I'm going to Chapelle.
I told you, I have to speak to Jamey.

Yeah, and I just heard her tell Milo you were at Division and you might be there all day.
- Who did she hear that from? - She said she just talked to you.
- Nina, what is going on? - We can't trust Jamey.
- Jack said CTU had been infiltrated. - Are you saying Jamey's a spy?
Why else would she lie? She must think I'm dead.
- Why would she think that? - I'll explain later. You have to bring me in.
OK. I'll come get you.
No. Stay there. Act as if everything's all right.
Jack behaved very strangely when he was at CTU. These people must be watching us.
I dunno, probably through our own surveillance.
All right, look, I'll send a car. What's your address?

What have you got on him?
He was born in Philadelphia, went to Colgate,
MBA from UCLA in '88, worked in investment banking,
started his own firm about five years ago.
His net worth is in excess of 35 million.

- OK. Good. Patch me through to his office.
- Cofell Enterprises.
- Hi. Is Ted there?
He's in a meeting. May I take a message?
I'm a friend from business school. I'm in town. I hoped we could get together.
As soon as he's out of the meeting he's going out of town.
That's too bad. How much longer will he be in his office?
He plans to leave by ten. Would you like to leave your name?

Don't worry, Pops.
I'll be okay.
My grandson going to jail is never okay.
You stay alive in there.
You hear me?
You, too.
Don't be going downhill.

Hold on.
James...
First couple days are going to be the toughest.
Here is my cell number.
You run into any problems
you call me.
I'll be right there. Alright?
Keep your head up.

There is no way I am going to end up in a dumpster wrapped in plastic.
I'm gonna be cremated, dust in the wind, you know.
I want no part of these things.

Dean Woods' shirt.
Now remember we said blood tells us everything?
Well,
그건…
so does the absence of blood.
Oh, my God.
You held him down
while she killed him.
All because the guy was 'handsy'?
Seems a little severe.
We're going to be placing you under arrest for murder.
Is there anything you want to say?

Spare tire.
You gotta be kidding me.
Tire sucked up the bullet. The treds covered its track.
Now we just match the bullet to the cop's gun.
Our case is air tight.
There's a match.
We got Tyner.
One bad cop going down.

Is this Eddie's idea of a joke? What, are you in one of his bands?
I already made a field visit to your house.
Here's the form.

Lindsey seems okay.
But there is going to be an investigation as to whether there was parental neglect.

Down, boy.
What can you tell me? Is there saliva on it?
Well, it's going to be tough one to prove.
This is only step one.
You see, when a person talks, saliva naturally comes out of their mouth.

I've never had plum pudding before.
I'm serving it this year for Christmas.
I like to try out new recipes before the actual holiday.
That way if the cookbook's gotten it wrong,
I can fix it.
You must really like Christmas.
You and Mr. Van de Kamp always have the best decorations on your lawn.
I adore the holidays.
I never get depressed if there's a beautifully decorated tree to look at.
My mom and I would always decorate our tree together.
This Christmas is going to be weird.

You bought me enough things.
You're the one that's supposed to be shopping.
Oh, mama, you're in a rut.
We need to spice up your wardrobe.
Ooh, here.
Try this one on. Go on, try it on.
Mama Solis, how you doing in there?
Is it supposed to be so tight?
Yes, it's form-fitting. You're going to look great.
Gabrielle, I don't think this dress is right for me.
I can't breathe.
Well, maybe I made a mistake.

That there's isn't going to be any miracles.
This is the hard part --
to stand around as surgeons and not cut.
That's what "do no harm" means.
I wish he'd just go into the light so I can get on another case.
Oh, I'm the devil because I'd rather be in surgery
instead of standing watch over the death squad?
It's depressing.

Are you at all claustrophobic?
I've been housebound for the last year. How claustrophobic could I be?
All right, then.
Dr. Stevens is going to take you up for a C.T.
It'll give us a better look at the tumor, and we'll know how to proceed from there.

You know, they call you the Nazi.
So I've heard.
I won't lie to you.
The surgery is going to be long and difficult,
but we have an extremely capable surgical team, and I can --
Am I gonna die?
There's always that risk,
but if we don't do the surgery...
I'll definitely die.
Yes.

Soon?
Yes.

her heart... Caught on fire. Yes.
There will, of course, be an investigation,
but you should know, this is not as unusual as it sounds.
Your wife is going to be fine.
She's well. Um, we completed the operation
and I expect that she will make a full recovery.

But it is important that you both understand
medically what's going on with your girls.
After she's born, there won't be much time to ask questions so...
Okay.
We're listening.
What's wrong with Emily's heart?
The chambers on the left side are underdeveloped.
In addition, the mitral valve, which connects these two chambers, is abnormally narrow.

Will, there are brilliant conservative minds in the Republican Party.
And the individual price we are paying
for not pretending to be crazy is nothing
