In a town near Amsterdam they had to erect a statue to somebody no Dutchman
ever heard of - "Pieter." He's the brave little Dutch boy who stuck his finger in the
dike and saved the area form flooding.
The story of Pieter is entirely an American invention, but so many American
visitors asked about him that the Dutch decided it was only sensible to erect a status
in his honor.
