Work on standard began in 1994, at the 10th Session of the
Codex Coordinating Committee for Asia held in Beijing.
The Codex standard is a standard for food products set
by the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Program.
Its importance is hard to ignore, as the World Trade Organization
in 1995 decided to adopt the Codex standard to settle any trade
matters concerning international food products.

UNESCO experts meeting in Florence, Italy, in the early 1950s adopted the terms of
