border는 경계선 바로 안쪽의 표면부분 또는 경계선에 인접한 안팎의 좁고 가느다란 부분을 가리키기도 하고 경계선을 가리키는 수도 있다.

margin은 구별할 수 있는 어떤 표적이 있어서 다른 나머지의 면과 다소 명확하게 가려낼 수 있는 일정한 넓이를 가진 변두리(border)를 말한다.
the margin of a printed page/ the margin of a lake verge는 표면이나 퍼진 면(expanse)의 한계나 말단(termination)을 선명히 나타내는 선이나 대단히 좁은 공간을 가리킨다.

brink는 벼랑, 낭떠러지 따위의 끝을 말한다. 그래서 the river's brink라고 하면 강 언덕이 가파른 것을 강조하고, the river's brim이라고 하면 강변에 대단히 가까운 것을 강조한다.
