A group of researchers observed kindergarteners playing with crayons.
The kids seemed to enjoy it with great concentration and apparent pleasure for internal reasons.
Next, the researchers promised some of the children “Good Player Awards” for their drawing efforts with the crayons.
For one week, these children knew they would get a “prize” at the end of the week for their drawing behavior.
For the remaining children, no such promises were made.
There was a significant change in the crayon use among the kids promised external rewards.
Surprisingly, they spent much less time playing with crayons than before.
By contrast, the other children maintained their normal frequency and duration of use.
어느 연구원들은 유치원 아이들이 크레용을 가지고 노는 모습을 관찰했다.
그 아이들은 내적인 이유 때문에 열심히 집중하여 분명히 즐거워하면서 크레용을 가지고 노는 것 같았다.
다음으로 그 연구원들은 그 아이들 중 몇 명에게 크레용을 가지고 그림을 열심히 그리면, “열심히 그리는 어린이 상”을 주겠다고 약속했다.
일주일 동안, 이 아이들은 그림 그리는 행동 때문에 주말에 상을 받을 것이라는 것을 알고 있었다.
나머지 아이들에게는 그런 약속을 하지 않았다.
외적 보상을 약속 받은 아이들에게는 크레용 사용에서 상당한 변화가 있었다.
놀랍게도 그들은 이전보다 크레용을 가지고 노는 데 훨씬 더 적은 시간을 보냈다.
대조적으로 다른 아이들은 크레용을 사용하는 평소의 빈도와 지속성을 유지했다.
