8. '여행만큼 즐거운 것은 없다'라고 옛날부터 일러 왔지만 오늘날에도 이에 반대하는 사람은 거의 없다. 미지의 곳을 여행하여 그곳 사람들의 인정이나 풍습에 젖어 보는 것은 인생 최고의 즐거움 가운데 하나일 것이다.

(ANS 1) "Nothing is more pleasant than traveling." goes an old saying, and even today a great number of people still believe it to be true. To take a journey to strange places and become friendly with the people and familiar with their way of life may well bring us one of the greatest pleasures we can ever experience in our lives.
(ANS 2) "Nothing gives us more pleasure than traveling." as an old saying goes. Even these days few people are against it. Indeed, it is one of the highest joys we can get out of life to travel to strange places and get friendly and familiar with the people there and their customs and manners.

→ travel은 비교적 먼 곳으로 가는 것을 말하고, '즐거운 여행이었다'라고 말할 때는 거리에 상관없이 trip이 쓰인다.

date 는 원래 날짜라는 의미이다. 그것이 사람을 만나기 위└ 약속
이라는 말이되고,애인끼리 만나서 즐거운 한때를 지낸다는 말로 쓰
이게 되었다. date 에는 또한 [데이트하는 상대]라는 뜻도있다.
Who was your date ? 라고하면 [데이트 상대는 누구였느냐 ?]의 뜻
이다. [토요일 밤 데이트하겠니 ?]라고 말하고 싶으면 Would you
like to go out on a date next Saturday evening ?,[그녀와 댄스
데이트를 하기로 했다]고 말하고 싶으Р I made a date for a
dance with her.라고 말한다. 댄스 파티는 영어로 dance party 라
고 하지 않으며 dance 또는 dancing party 라고 한다. [댄스 파티
에 가자]는 Let's go to a dance.로 충분하다.

》 have a ball은 왜 즐거운 시간을 가지다란 뜻인가?
여기서 ball은 "공"을 의미하는 것이 아니고
"무도회"의 뜻으로서 호화롭고 성대한 무도회를 가지다
의 뜻이므로 대단히 즐거운 시간을 가지다 란 뜻이됩니다.

1) 놀랐을 때 쓰이는 감탄사

" Oh,my ! "는 가벼운 놀라움을 나타내는 표현입니다.
" Good Heavens! "는 대단히 놀라서 당황할 때 사용합니다.
" Gosh ! "는 "God! "의 완곡한 표현으로, 무엇인가 좋지 않은
것에 놀랐을 때 사용합니다.
" Gee ! "나 " Jee ! "도 놀라움을 나타내는 표현으로 쓰이는데,
흔히 기뻐서 놀라는 경우에 사용됩니다.
" Oh,boy ! "역시 놀라움의 표현으로, 안 좋은 일뿐만 아니라
기쁜 일, 즐거운 일에도 사용합니다.
" My God ! "는 놀라움의 감탄사 중에서 가장 강한 표현으로,
이것은 사람의 죽움이나 중대 사건 등에 대하여 자
신의 감정이 상했음을 나타낼 때 사용합니다.

나는 생의 최고의 시간을 가졌다. ☞ 정말로 즐거운 시간을 가졌다.

** Tour, Trip, Travel?
* Trip: 일반적인 여행, 광범위한 뜻
* Tour: 관광여행과 비슷하게 하는 여행
* Travel: 비교적 긴시간의 여행
* Journey: 육상여행으로 trip보다는 격식적인 말
* Voyage: 비교적 긴 해상, 항공여행
* Bon voyage! -> 즐거운 여행 되세요!

- 오늘은 매우 유쾌했었다.
'나는 오늘 매우 즐거운 시간을 가졌다.'로 역해도 좋다. 그러나 have a
nice time of it. 라고 하면 반어적으로 혼이 났다는 의미가 된다는 것에
주의.

* 뜻이 변화된 영어
lady first : 전쟁중에 지뢰밭을 지날때 여성을 먼저 지나가게 해서 전
쟁에 쓸모 있는 남성을 아끼는 말이었는데 --> 좋은 의미로
gay : 즐거운 ----> 동성연애자
badly : 나쁘게 --> 몹시
ex) I'll miss you badly. 나는 당신이 몹시 보고 싶을거에요.
silly : happy ---> stupid
smug : 말끔한 ---> 잘난 체 하는
let : 막다, 못하게 하다 --> 허락하다, 하게하다
hot, cool : 서로 반대되는 뜻이나 요즘 젊은이들 사이에서는 비슷한 뜻
으로 쓰인다.

* Happy hour
술집 문턱에 보면 Happy hour one dollar fifty light one seventy five
half two dark 라고 적힌 간판을 볼 수 있다. Happy hour는 빠나 칵테일
라운지 같은데서 무료로 또는 염가로 마실 것을 파는 서비스 타임을 말
한다. Happy hour는 직장의 업무가 끝나는 시간에 맞추어 시작된다. 보
통 오후 5시~6시 사이. 이때는 음료, 맥주를 싸게 파는데 여자들에게는
무료로 제공하는 술집들도 있다. one seventy five half라고 씌여진 것
은 light, half, dark 이라는 맥주의 종류에 따른 가격을 적어 놓은 것
이다. 이것은 보통 때보다 훨씬 저렴한 가격이다. 싼가격으로 술도 마실
수 있고 말이 통하는 친구들을 만나 이야기를 나누며 쌓인 스트레스를
줄 수 있는 즐거운 시간을 Happy hour라 한다.

* bite the bullet
단순히 고통을 참는 정도가 아니라 당당하고 의연하게 어려움에 맞서는
것을 뜻한다. 이말의 유래는 전쟁터에서 나온 것인데 아직 마취약이
개발되지 않았던 19세기에 전쟁에서 부상당한 군인들을 수술할 때 외과
의사들은 흔히 환자에게 총알을 물고 있게했습니다. 총알을 물고 있는
동작은 결코 즐거운 일이 아니라 오히려 몹시 불쾌감을 주는 일이겠죠.
불쾌감을 주는 일을 함으로써 환자가 수술부위에 집중될 고통을 분산시
키기 위한 것이라고 한다. 그래서 bite on the bullet 이라고 하고 on 을
빼기도 하고 이것을 모두 "고통을 참다, 고통을 당당히 참다, 의연하게
참아내다" 라고 전해지고 있다.

weather라고도 말한다. 헤어질때는 Have a nice day Have a good day라고
인사를 하면, 상대방은 The same to you나 You, too라고 답한다.

캐나다 여행은 윤씨와 제게 있어 매우 즐거운 여행이었습니다.

If scarcity exists, the choices must be made by individuals and

powder, salt, garlic, ginger, and a few other ingredients.

Thirdly '국' or soup is usually seved with rice and '김치' It can
be prepared to taste bland or hot and a very popular soup called
