LONG-TERM CAPITAL: One of the intriguing challenges for venture
capitalists, just as it is for ordinary mortals, is knowing when to fold
'em and when to hold 'em. It's typical to distribute shares in a newly
public company to the limited partners of a VC fund shortly after an
IPO. But there's no consensus about how long VCs should hold a public
stock. Much depends on the company, the VCs' judgment about its
potential, and what a big sale might do to the stock price.
장기 자본 : 벤처 투자가들(VC)이 최근 직면한 가장 큰 난제는 어느 때
주식을 가지고 있고, 언제 매각하느냐는 것이다. 새 회사는 주식상장 뒤
자금을 댄 VC들에게 주식을 배분하는 것이 전형적인 틀이지만 VC들이 얼마
만큼 공개주(Public Stock)을 가지고 있어야 한다는 제한은 없다. 그 시기를
결정하는 것은 대부분 회사들의 손에 달려있다. VC들의 이 회사 미래성에
대한판단이나 이 회사를 제 3 자에게 넘기는 것(Big Sale)이 주식가에 어떠한
영향을 끼치느냐가 판단의 잣대가 된다.

offering. Credit Suisse First Boston is the lead underwriter.

Analysts said that Andover.Net is next week's wild card because it is
selling its stock through a Dutch auction, or an open IPO. In a Dutch
auction, the opening price of the IPO is based on bids received from
investors ahead of the IPO date, so investors set the price of the stock.
