According to the Bank of Korea, the economy grew 6.7 percent in
terms of gross domestic product (GDP) in the second quarter of this
year, the lowest quarterly growth in three years. This 6.7 percent figure
compares with the 7.9 percent in the first quarter and falls short of the
government projection of 7 percent. The economy, which started to slow
down from the final quarter of last year, is expected to continue to move
down a slippery slope until the first half of next year.
한국은행에 따르면, 우리 경제는 금년도 2/4분기에 6.7%의 GDP성장을 기
록하여, 3년만에 최저치를 나타내었다고 한다. 이 6.7%의 숫자는 1/4분기의
7.9%와 비교될 뿐 아니라 정부가 계획했던 7%보다도 부족한 것이다. 작년
4/4분기부터 하락하기 시작한 경제는 내년도 전반기까지 내리막길을 계속할
것으로 예상되고 있다.
In the face of the sluggishness in exports and the fall in domestic
demand, manufacturing growth is in a sharp decline. Growth was 10.7
percent for the whole of last year. It declined to 7.8 percent in the first
quarter of this year and 6.5 percent in the second quarter, the lowest
since the third quarter of 1993. Inventories jumped 20.4 percent in the
first half of this year, compared to 6.2 percent the year before.
수출부진과, 국내수요의 감소를 맞아, 제조업의 증가가 크게 하락하고 있
다. 작년 전체의 성장은 10.7%였다. 그것이 금년도 1/4분기에 7.8%로 줄어
들고 2/4분기에는 1993년 3/4분기 이후 가장 낮은 6.5%로 하락된 것이다.
재고량은 작년의 6.2%에서 금년도 전반기에 20.4%로 껑충 뛰었다.

increase in the first half of the 1960's was only nine percent), another
large population wave was coming over the horizon. It would be composed
of the children of the children who were born during the period of the
high birth rate prior to 1957.
