Palm Computing struck a blow against rival Microsoft Corp. in the
battle to control the operating systems on hand-held computing devices
when it announced Monday that consumer electronics giant Sony Corp.
licensed the Palm OS for use in a new line of products.
팜 컴퓨팅사가 소니와 전격 제휴함으로써 휴대용 컴퓨터기기
운영체제시장을 놓고 경쟁사인 마이크로소프트사에 일격을 가했다. 이번 팜
컴퓨팅의 소니와의 제휴는 지난달 무선통신업체 노키아와 비슷한 제휴 관계를
맺은 데 이어 두 번째의 전략적 포석이다.
Even Microsoft's most important partners seem far more willing to
consider exploring alternatives, while continuing to rely on their close
relationship with the software company.
MS와 밀접한 제휴를 맺고 있는 기업들마저 MS와의 관계를 끊지는 않으면서도
윈도 대체 수단을 찾으려는 경향이 뚜렷해지고 있다.

Windows NT and Unix in the future, and we're dealing with those
now,'' said Carly Fiorina, Hewlett-Packard Co.'s recently
installed CEO, during a news conference at the show.
휴렛팩커드 칼리 피오리나 회장은 컴덱스쇼 기자회견에서 "우리는 앞으로
윈도 NT와 유닉스사이에서 수많은 전략적인 결단을 내려야한다"며 "우리는
지금 이 문제들을 심각하게 다루고 있다"고 말했다. 그녀는 이같은 결단은
MS의 법적 시련보다는 변하는 시장에 초점을 맞추게 된다고 밝혔다.
Telecommunications equipment maker Lucent Technologies Inc. and Sun
Microsystems Inc., the leading Internet hardware maker, on Wednesday
said they had forged an alliance to create infrastructure needed to run
electronic business more easily over the Internet.
통신기기업체인 루슨트 테크놀로지사와 손꼽히는 인터넷 하드웨어 업체인 선
마이크로시스템즈사는 3일 전략적 제휴를 통해 인터넷 전자상거래를 원활히
