In 1986, the BBC developed the Domesday Project.
It was named after the Domesday Book which had been made to register the lands of the British in the 11th century.
The project's purpose was to store information on life in Britain in the 1980s in the form of digital data.
A lot of video clips, texts, maps, and pictures showing British people’s lives were stored in dozens of laser discs.
But now after 18 years, the data in the laser discs are unreadable.
By contrast, the original Domesday Book is in fine condition.
“The Domesday Project has become an example of the problem of digital data storage,” said a computer expert.
“We're lucky Shakespeare didn't write on an old PC.”

경향이다.
