Money is very different in United States.
미국에서 돈이라는 것은 매우 다른 거예요.
For example, I know that here, parents will try to pay for the
children's college education but you take it further.
예를 들면, 한국에서는 부모님들께서 자녀들의 대학교육비를 지불하시
죠. 하지만 자녀들은 더 많이 가져가게되죠.
See, after we're 18 or after we graduate college at least,
Americans are very independant people.
자, 미국인들은 18세 가 넘거나 적어도 대학을 졸업한 후에는 매우 독
립적인 사람이되요.
Now, most Americans after they leave home, their money is theirs.
대부분의 미국인들이 집을 떠난 후부터 그들의 돈은 그들 것이예요.
They keep it for themselves.
자신을 위해서 돈을 보관하죠.
As Koreans tend to live at home until they get married, except
for one they're at army, one they're living at University.
하지만 한국인들은 군대에 있을 경우나 학교에서 사는 경우는 제외하
고는 결혼 전까지 집에서 살려고 하잖아요.
But if they're not in school or not in the army, they usually
live at home but Americans don't.
학교에 다니질 않거나 군에 있지 않을 때 조차도 대부분 집에서 살죠.
하지만 미국인들은 그러지 않아요.
Americans only go back home if they are in University or if
they're in financial problems, having financial problems in most
cases.
미국인들은 학교에 재학 중이거나 재정적으로 문제가 있을 때에만 집
으로 돌아가요. 대부분이 재정적인 문제일 경우죠.
Now here is the most important part.
자 이부분이 가장 중요한 점이예요.
Koreans usually, young Koreans, they give a lot of money, maybe
all the money I don't exactly, you would know to the home.
한국인들, 특히 젊은 한국인들은 집으로 많은 돈을, - 전 정확히는 모
르지만 아마 모든 돈일 거예요, 여러분은 아시겠죠? - 집에 가져다 줘
요.
They work and get some money to the parents.
그들은 일해서 번 돈을 부모님께 드리죠.
That's one of the advantages of children's staying at home but
also the parents really have a lot of controll over the
children's money.
그게 자녀들이 집에 머무는 잇점일 수는 있어요. 하지만 부모님들께
서 자녀들의 돈을 관리하시는데도 많이 관여하시죠.
If it's the children's money, parents have a lots of control.
그게 자녀들의 돈이라고 하더라도 부모님께서 더 관리하신다는 거죠.
But Americans will pay their parents some if they're living at
home.
하지만 미국인들은 집에서 산다고 하더라도 부모님께 약간의 돈을 지
불할 뿐이예요.
They might pay their parents a little bit of extra money.
부모님들께 약간의 여유돈을 지불할 거예요.
But often times you live there for free.
하지만 대부분 공짜로 살 수 있죠.
Extra money is your money. Your money is yours.
남는 돈은 여러분의 돈이잖아요. 여러분의 돈은 여러분거죠.
And when you get married, in America your parents try to pay for
the wedding and maybe they will give you a gift.
그리고, 결혼을 할 때, 미국에서는 부모님들께서 결혼비용을 지불하시
고 선물을 주실거에요.
If you're wealthy, they might give you a house or a car. But all
of them they're very wealthy.
여러분께서 부자라면 아마도 집이나 차를 주시겠죠. 하지만 그러시는
분들은 아주 부자일 경우죠.
But, in Korea, most parents want to try to pay for the children's
first apartment and furniture.
반면에 한국에서는 대부분의 부모님들께서 자녀들에게 결혼하고서 살
게될 아파트나 가구들을 마련해 주려고 하시죠.
So, it's much harder for young Americans because basically
they're expected to pay for everything for themselves.
그래서 미국 젊은이들이 더 힘들죠. 왜냐면 기본적으로 모든것을 자신
들이 부담하도록 되어있기때문이죠.

Advanced Placement
Advanced Placement(AP)는 고등학교에 재학 중인 학생들에게 대학 수준의 과목에 대한 공부를 미리 준비하게 하여 평가하는 시험. 합격하면 대학에 진학하여 공부하여야 할 과목을 면제받을 수 있음. 이를 위하여 고등학교에서는 AP Program을 운영하여 AP 과목에 대한 수업을 진행하고 AP 시험을 주관. 이 AP Program은 미국뿐만 아니라 전세계적으로 13,600고등학교가 참여하고 있으며 19개 학과의 35개의 과목이 AP 과목으로 선정되어 운영되고 있음.
