초기시장과 주류(主流)시장 사이에 깊은 골(캐즘)이 생긴다는 것. 아무리
훌륭한 기술로 만들어진 첨단제품이라 할지라도 초기에는 조금 인기를
끌지만 주류시장으로 성장하지 못하고 깊은 골에 빠져실패하고 마는 경우가
많다. 인공지능이나 신경망 소프트웨어 비디오텍스트등이 바로 그런 예다.
때문에 벤처기업들은 틈새시장(니치마켓)을 공략하고 공격적인 마케팅을
펼쳐 캐즘에 굴러 떨어지지 말고 주류시장으로 도약하라는 충고도 한다.
