Being the “brightest” member of my third grade class, I was asked to recite a rather lengthy poem for a school event.
My initial response to the task was “No big deal,” and I jumped at the opportunity to be in the spotlight yet again.
I casually practiced my presentation at home.
The day came.
I began to recite the poem, but I suddenly lost my memory and could say only two lines before I dried up.
My face became red with embarrassment as the audience giggled quietly and my teacher secretly fed me my lines.

The pet-shop customer couldn't believe his good fortune. The parrot he had
just bought could recite Shakespeare's sonnets, imitate opera stars and
intone Homer's epic poems in Greek. And he cost only $600.
Once the man got the bird home, however, not another word passed his beak.
After three weeks the disconsolate customer returned to the shop and asked
for his money back. "When we had this bird," said the proprietor, "he
could recite poetry and sing like an angel. Now you want me to take him
back when he's no longer himself? Well, all right. Out of the goodness
of my heart I'll give you $100." Reluctantly the man accepted his loss.
Just as the door shut behind him he heard the parrot say to the shop
owner, "Don't forget―my share is $250."

소리가 들렸다. "내 몫이 250달러라는 것을 잊지 마세요."

There's no doubt that American education does not meet high standards in
such basic skills as mathematics and language. And we realize that our
youngsters are ignorant of Latin, put Mussolini in the same category as
Dosto- veski, cannot recite the Periodic Table by heart. Would we,
however, prefer to stuff the developing little heads of our children
with hundreds of geometry problems, the names of rivers in Brazil and 50
lines from The Canterbury Tales? Do we really want to retard their
impulses, frustrate their opportunities for self-expression?
