◆ disaster, calamity, catastrophe, cataclysm
네 단어 모두 "크나큰 불행, 재앙"등을 나타냅니다. 그러나 의미와 강약 면에서 다음과 같은 차이점을 찾을 수 있습니다.
아래와 같이 disaster < calamity < catastrophe 순으로 강약의 차이가 있는데 이를 구분하는 선이
수학 공식처럼 뚜렷이 되어 있지 않아 사실상 명확하게 설명 드리기가 어렵습니다.
개인의 주관에 따라 때로는 강하게 때로는 약하게 표현할 수도 있기 때문에 더욱 모호해집니다.
1) disaster : 인위적[자연의 힘]으로 갑자기 일어나는 큰 불행.
2) calamity : 불행, 재난, 참화 (보통, 자연의 힘으로 일어나는 중대한 불행 (사람에게 심한 고통비애를 가져온다는 뜻을 내포; disaster보다 센 뜻).
3) catastrophe : 대이변, 대참사 (특히 도저히 회복될 수 없는 철저한 재앙; calamity보다 센 뜻).
4) cataclysm : 큰 홍수(deluge), 지각의 격변, 정치[사회]적 대변동(특히 정치 사회상의 돌발적인 격변으로 서 재해가 따르는 것.)

1) addicted : 빠져 있는, 나쁜 버릇이 있는 -> 사람이 어떠한 것에 지나치게 빠지거나
중독되어 있을 경우 사용하는 말입니다.
