Soaring wages should be kept in check to raise the productivity
figures. According to a recent government report, nominal wages rose
16.8 percent in 1987-94 and the inflation rate was 6.4 percent, resulting
in a 10.4 percent increase in real wage growth. In advanced nations, we
see nominal wages increase by less than 5 percent and real ages by 2
percent or so.
