* Welcome aboard는 원래 배나 비행기에 타는 손님에게
'어서 오십시오'라고 환영하는 말인데, 직장도 하나의 배나
비행기라고 생각할 수 있으므로 이런 말을 환영인사로
얼마든지 쓸 수 있다. 그리고 Nice to have you with us는
글자 그대로 '같이 일하게 되어 기쁘다'는 뜻이다.

I'm tickled to death to be here this evening라고 말했는데
통역가가 이 말을 어떻게 통역해야 할 지 몰라서 그대로
'내가 오늘 저녁 여기 왔기 때문에 죽을 때 까지 난
가려워서 긁게 될 것입니다.'라고 통역을 했다.
정말 말도 안되지만 be tickled to death란 idiom(관용구)를
모르면 이렇게 밖에 해석을 할 수밖에 없을 것이다.
be tickled to death는 be very pleased 또는 be very happy와
같은 뜻이다. 글자 그대로 해석하면 '너무 간지러워서 죽는다'는
뜻인데 '매우 기쁘다'는 뜻이 된다. 정말 말도 안되는 말이지만
하여튼 미국에서 많이 쓰이는 표현이니깐 눈물을 머금고 알아둘
수밖에 없다. to death대신 pink를 써서 be tickled pink라고도
한다. 물론 I'm dying to see her라고 한국에서 쓰는 '죽겠다'란
표현도 쓴다. This heat wave is murder 또는
The recession is killing us 등등 '죽겠다' 란 표현도 많이 있다.
