그러나 모든 사람이 좋은 책을 쓸 수 있다고 생각한다면 그것은 잘못이다.

◆ naive, ingenuous, artless, unsophisticated
모두 "순진하다, 천진난만하다"등의 의미를 갖고 있는 말들이나 다음과 같이
미묘한 차이를 갖고 있습니다.
1) naive : 순진하고 천진난만한 그리고 때로 어리석을 만큼 세상물정을 모른다는
뜻으로 사용됩니다. naive한 사람이라고 해서 반드시 무식하고 어리석은 사람을
말하는 것은 아닙니다.
=. She's so naive she believes everything she reads.
(그녀는 참 순진해서 읽는 대로 믿는다.)
=. He has a very naive attitude toward politics.
(그는 정치에 대해 매우 순진한 마음가짐을 갖고 있다.)
2) ingenuous : naive와 가장 가까운 단어인데 "순진한 아이처럼 담백하고 솔직한,
잘 믿는" 등으로 보다 명확한 뜻을 가집니다. naive와는 다르게 반드시 경험부족이라는
함축적인 의미를 담지는 않으며 말하는 사람의 입장에 따라 칭찬이 될 수도 있고
비난이 될 수 있습니다.
ex) =. His expression was frank, ingenuous, and engaging.
(그는 솔직하고 순진하면서도 매력 있게 표현을 한다.)
=. His apology was so obviously sincere and ingenuous that his opponent was disconcerted.
(그의 사과는 누가 봐도 진지했고 솔직해서 상대방이 당황했다.)
3) artless : "남의 눈을 끌려는 꾸밈이 없고 자연스러운"의 뜻이나 오늘날
보기 "흉한, 이상한"의 의미로 사용되기도 합니다.
=. The artless hostess who stumbled over every introduction.
(그 서투른 여주인은 시작할 때마다 실수하였다.)
=. Jonathan was innocent and artless.
(조나단은 순진하고 꾸밈이 없었다.)
4) unsophisticated : "naive 하고 경험이 없어서 지혜가 없는"의 뜻으로 화자에
따라 칭찬 또는 비난의 의미로 사용될 수 있습니다.
=. They were so unsophisticated that they didn't know what a subway was.
(그들은 너무나 경험이 없어서 지하철이 무엇인지도 몰랐다.)
=. It is easy to write because the readers are relatively unsophisticated.
