The immediate cause of the tragic incidents is, of course, a natural
disaster. In Chorwon near the Demilitarized Zone, 20 soldiers lost their
lives as a huge mudslide covered their barracks while they were
sleeping. Similar accidents took place in two other military camp sites,
leaving at least eight Army and Air Force personnel dead or missing.
Human negligence was again evident in these tragic mishaps.
