휴강 = 수업이 없다.

대학에서 강의를 듣지않고, 강의를 듣는 것을 청강
(Audit) 또는 "Sit in on"이라고 표현합니다.
미국의 대학에서 청강을 원할때는 반드시 담당교수에게
허락을 얻어야 되는데, 교수의 성격에 따라서 청괄을
좋아하기도 하고, 귀챦아 하기도 하지요.
아뭏든, 청강을 원할때는 교수님께 찾아가서
" Can I audit your class ? "
" Can I sit in on your class ? "
라고 하시면 됩니다.

1. 등록하다(register) ===> 등록(registeration)

반대로 그 교수는 학점이 후합니다..

My teacher handed back the report I wrote and said I had to rewite it by the next class or he'll fail me.

The first year of my college was terrible for me.

Instead, she said, “Your grammar and spelling need a lot of work, Arthur, but this is an example of a very well-organized paper.”
Surely she had no idea what she had done for me.
She had blessed me with an affirmation.
She had shown me I could do something.

그 대신, 교수님께서는 "Arthur, 문법과 철자는 많은 노력을 필요로 하지만, 이것은 매우 잘 짜여진 작문의 예이구나."라고 말씀하셨다.
교수님께서 나를 위해 무엇을 했었는지 교수님께서는 분명히 몰랐다.
교수님께서는 긍정을 함으로써 나를 축복해주셨다.
교수님께서는 나에게 나도 뭔가를 할 수 있다는 것을 보여 주셨던 것이다.

「창피한 줄 알라」라는 표현으로 「Shame on you!」가 있다. 「부끄러움
이 네 위에 있다」라는 식으로 된 표현이다.

of the subject.

아무리 이도령 같은 열정이 있다 하더라도 일단 남의 담장을 넘어 들어오
는 행위는 장작뜸질은 몰라도 물벼락 정도는 맞아야 마땅한 방종한 행위일
것이다. 'pale'이란 담장을 넘지 못하도록 만든 뾰족하게 깎아 놓은 나무부
분을 칭하는 말이다. 따라서 'beyond the pale'이라고 표현하면 「금지된 것
을 넘어선」 또는 「행동이 규정에 어긋난」이란 의미를 가진다.
Jane:Stop disturbing me. I can't concentrate.
