The Apollo Theater, the Harlem landmark in New York, has been a major showcase for top black entertainers since the 1930s.
Built in 1913, it began as a comedy house where blacks weren't allowed as an audience.
But in 1920 it was offering shows that usually included Jazz and in 1932 it became a black comedy house.
It wasn't until renovations were made in the mid-1930s that the Apollo became a world-renewed place for Jazz musicians.
Recently the Apollo has been operating as a nonprofit performance center.
