는 미국인들이 땅을 차지하기위해 몰려갔다. 비교해서 'pull up stakes'라
는 표현이었다. '말뚝을 뽑다'로 되어있는 이 표현은 '떠나기 위해 준비하다
'라는 뜻을 가진다.
A:Our English teacher Michelle Smith is pulling up stakes to go back
to Canada.
B:Really? Why?
A:Maybe she's losing money because of the exchange rates.
B:I'm sorry to hear that. She's been very helpful.
A:I agree. However she said that she would return to our nation as
soon as the economic situation improves.
