Seoul-Inchon Canal Work to Start Next Year
경인운하 내년 착공
Work to build an intracity canal passing through the western tip
of Seoul to the western port city of Inchon will be launched in
the second half of next year, the Ministry of Construction and
Transportation said yesterday.
건설 교통부는 24일 서울 서부지역과 인천을 잇게 될 경인운하가 내
년 하반기에 착공된다고 발표했다.
The two-phase project for the 18-km waterway primarily intended
to alleviate heavy inland cargo traffic will be completed in
2010, according to the ministry's basic plan.
건교부의 기본계획안에 따르면 심각한 육상 화물 교통난 완화를 주목
적으로 하는 총연장 18km의 경인운하는 2단계로 나눠 건설되며 2010
년 완공 예정이다.
The canal will be built for feeder container ships with a
maximum capacity of 2,500 tons. The waterway will measure six
meters in depth and 100 meters in width.
경인운하의 규모는 2천5백톤급 피더컨테이너선(船)이 다닐수 있도록
수심 6m, 폭 1백미터로 건설키로 했다.
Upon completion, the canal is expected to help to relieve the
serious traffic congestion of the Seoul-Pusan highway.
경인운하가 완공되면 경부선의 심각한 교통체증을 완화시키는데도 도
움이 될 것으로 예상된다.

서진형 경인여대 경영학과 교수는 "경제 상황이나 국민 인식 등에 따라 고가 주택 기준이 바뀌어야 한다"며 "정부가 기준금액 변경을 고민해야 할 시기가 아닌가 싶다"고 밝혔다.

이후 다시 지하철을 타고 경인아라뱃길로 이동했다가 지하철로 서울 1, 6호선 동묘앞역에서 내렸다.
