수증이나 계산서를 뜻하지만 건강 이라는 뜻의 health와 함께 써서 a
bill of health라고 하면 전염병에 관한 검사 보고서를 뜻합니다. 전
염병에 관한 검사 보고서라고 하는 것은 전염병이 유행하고 있는 지역
에서 선박이 출항할 때 선장에게 발부하는 공문서를 뜻합니다. 이러한
공문서가 필요한 까닭은 전염병이 유행하고 있는 지역에서 출항하는
배가 타 지역에서 안전을 위협하는 것을 막기 위해서 입니다. 그래서

취하게 됩니다. 그래서 to give someone a clean bill of health 라고
하면 인가하다, 잘못이나 나쁜 곳이 발견되지 않았다는 것을 증명하다
는 표현이 됩니다.
