1. 누구든지 건강을 누려야 한다. 건강하다는 것은 몸이 아프지 않다는 것뿐만 아니라 정신도 건전한 것을 의미한다.

stalwart는 그 어원의 뜻 「토대」(foundation)가 보여주듯이 깊이 세워지거나 든든히 뿌리박힌 데에서 오는 힘, 난공 불락의 힘, 완전히 신뢰할 수 있는 힘을 암시한다. 사람의 체구·체력에 대해서 쓰이는 경우에는 대단히 센 힘을 언제나 암시하지만, 영웅 같은 골격이라든가 또는 큰 체격을 강조한다.

* pushing은 nearing(가깝게 접근하고 있는)과 같은 뜻이다.
따라서 jogging을 하고 있는 노인을 보고 You are in very good shape.
'참 건강하십니다.' 라 했을 때 그 노인이 I am only pushing 80.라고
말한다면 '난 겨우 80에 가까와지고 있을 뿐이다.'란 의미가 된다.

* You look it은 '당신은 그것을 본다'가 아니라 '당신은
그렇게 보인다'는 뜻이다. 여기서 it은 나이를 가리킨다.
나이 많은 노인을 보고 젊어 보인다고 말하면 참 좋아한다고들 한다.
You seem to be fit as a fiddle이라 해서 '정정해 보인다'는
말로 사용하는데 fit as a fiddle은 '바이올린같이 유연하다'는

are many handicapped persons who have been able to make a good life for
themselves and to set a notable example to their fellow human beings by

disease, and suffering. Obviously it is foolish to sacrifice health

Probably the most famous film commenting on 20th century technology is
Modern Times, made in 1936. Charlie Chaplin was motivated to make the
film by a reporter who, while interviewing him, happened to describe
working conditions in industrial Detroit. Chaplin was told that healthy
young farm boys were lured to the city to work on automotive assembly
lines. Within 4 or 5 years, these young men's health was destroyed by

◆ grateful, thankful, appreciative
세 단어 모두 "고마워하는, 매우 감사하는, 사의를 표하는"의 의미를 가지고 있습니다.
1) grateful 과 thankful : 이 두 단어는 의미가 매우 흡사한데 반하여 일반적으로
발견되는 한 가지 차이점이 있다면 grateful 이 우리가 고마워하는 마음을 다른 사람에게
전달할 때 쓰이고 thankful은 신의 섭리나 운명, 즉시적인 것이 아닌 것일 때 쓰인다는 점입니다.
2) appreciative : 위 두 단어보다 더 강한 표현입니다.

◆ mend, repair, restore, fix
mend는 가장 일반적인 의미의 고치다이며, 비물질적인 것도 목적어로 취합니다.

셔츠에 구멍이 났는데 고쳐줄 수 있어요?
I've left my watch at the jeweller's to be mended.
난 시계를 고치려고 시계방에 맡겼다.
repair은 mend에 비해 거창하며 기술을 필요로 하는 경우가 많습니다.

restore는 원상태로 복원하다라는 의미입니다.

◆ strong, mighty, powerful, vigorous
strong은 신체의 강함, 물건의 단단함, 정신의 굳건함 등등에 널리 쓰이는 단어입니다.

--> 강한 바람이 추위를 더 심하게 만드는 것 같았다.
He has a strong personality.
--> 그는 강한 개성을 지녔다.
mighty는 남을 압도할 만한 힘을 가졌다 는 의미입니다.

powerful은 mighty에 비해 내적인 힘, 실력을 강조합니다.
