With everyone else dressed in attractive, colorful party clothes, my old blue jeans were painfully conspicuous.

One Saturday morning last summer, my alarm clock failed to go off.
I was wildly pulling on jeans, flying out the door, and leaping onto my bike.
I had only fifteen minutes to get to Dr. Johnson's house.
He had hired me to mow his vast lawn, and he had warned me that he did not tolerate lateness or excuses.
He was a tyrant, so I feared him.
He paid top dollar, however, so I tried to act obediently.
As I pedaled up Elm Street, I said to myself, “I have a feeling that this day will not go well.”
* go off : 작동되어 울리다

Tired of talking to my son about emptying his pockets before washday,
I told him that all the money I found would not be returned.
Instead, I'd put a jar in the laundry room, and when enough money had accumulated, he would have to take me out for dinner.
The next washday, I handed him a laundry basket and asked him to gather up his clothes.
I peeked in and was pleased to see him empty his pockets.
But just as he was about to toss his dirty jeans in the basket, he paused, pulled out his wallet,
and put a handful of change and a dollar bill into the pocket of the jeans.

Software piracy is already the biggest barrier to U.S. software companies entering foreign markets.
One reason is that software is extremely easy and inexpensive to duplicate compared to the cost of developing and marketing the software.
The actual cost of duplicating a software program, which may have a retail value of $400 or more, can be as little as a dollar or two―the main component being the cost of the diskette.
The cost of counterfeiting software is substantially less than the cost of duplicating watches, books, or blue jeans.
Given that the difference between the true value of the original and the cost of the counterfeit is so great for software, international piracy has become big business.
Unfortunately, many foreign governments view software piracy as an industry in and of itself and look the other way.

She changed into her blue jeans.

Old blue jeans sell for a lot.

But a large portion of the district's students aren't as positive as parents and teachers appear to be.
"It's like we're all in jail," said Hector Gonzalez, an 8th grader at Rogers.
Alicia Nunez, a 9th grader, complained that the uniform stifles her creativity.

"You come to school to get your education, not for them to tell you how to dress," the 14-year-old said as she strode across campus wearing a chocolate-brown T-shirt and jeans.

At the same time, other aspects of the Punk Look appealed not only for
attention, but for the love and care that we give to very small
children, especially to injured ones. After all, where else had we seen
that fluffy hair, those pale scratched faces and scraped knees, those
torn shirts and jeans? As for that Punk trade- mark, the outsize safety
pin stuck through a cheek or earlobe, it could not help but remind every
mother of the awful moment when she ran one just like it into her
darling instead of his nappie.

These days urban lifestyles seem to change very fast. It is more than
just clothing and hairstyles that are in style one year and out of date
the next; it's a whole way of living. One year people wear sunglasses on
top of their heads and wear jeans and boots; they drink white wine and
eat sushi at Japanese restaurants; for exercise they jog several miles a
day. However, the next year everything has changed. Women wear long
skirts; people drink expensive water from France and eat pasta at
Italian restaurants; everyone seems to be exer- cising at health clubs.
Then, suddenly, it has changed again. People wear only natural fabric
(safe for the environment); they drink gourmet coffee and eat Thai food;
for both leisure and exercise, they go rollerblading.

Yeah. Thought I'd give it a shot. I'm still on the first chapter. Now, do you think his 'love stick can be liberated from its denim prison'?
Yeah, I'd say so. And there's no 'j' in 'engorged'.
그래, 그런 것 같다. 그리고 충혈이지 충열이 아냐. --;

'be on the shelf'라는 말이 있다.
Sister:Could you put up a shelf for me?
Brother:What is this shelf for?
Sister:I'll place my old shoes up there.
Brother:Why don't you get rid of those ragged shoes? I think they
are trash.
Sister:But I need different color shoes for my jeans and slacks.
Brother:If you don't throw away old things, you'll become a pack rat.
Please dress yourself just like a lady from now on; otherwise you'll
be on the shelf with no man to marry.
<어구풀이>put up a shelf:선반을 매달다.
from now on:지금부터.
