라우터(Router):근거리통신망(LAN)과 원거리 통신망(WAN) 등을 상호
연결하는 네트워크 장비. 여러 대의 PC들이 동시다발적으로 전송하는
데이터를 LAN과 WAN을 거쳐 목적지까지 안전하게 전달하는 역할을
한다.
방화벽(Firewall):컴퓨터망 보안시스템 소프트웨어의 일종. 네트워크를 통한
외부 불법사용자의 침입을 막을 뿐 아니라 내부 사용자들이 외부
네트워크에 접속, 피해를 당하는 것도 막아준다 .
비동기전송방식(ATM. Asynchronous Transfer Mode):일반 전화교환기와
데이터 통신용패킷교환방식을 결합한 새로운 전송방식. ATM은 지난 86년
프랑스텔레콤 산하 국립전기통신연구소가 네트워크나 단말기, 데이터의
종류와 관계없이 모든 종류의 정보를 하나의 통신방식으로 교환하고자 하는
목적으로 개발했다.
사이버스페이스(Cyberspace):이 용어는 미국의 윌리엄 깁슨이 84년 자신의
소설'뉴로맨서'에서 처음 사용했다. '여러 나라의 수십억에 달하는 인간들이
매일 사용하는 합의에 기반한 환상....... 모든 컴퓨터 자료은행에서 끌어낸
자료들의 시각적 재현, 상상을 초월하는 복잡성, 별무리 같은 자료더미
사이를 배회하는 빗줄기, 희미하게 멀어져 가는 도심의 불빛 같이...'라고
당시에 그는 묘사했다.
지금은 일반적으로 컴퓨터통신이 이루어지는 전세계적인 네트워크를
가리키는 말이 됐다.

WAN(Wide Area Network):광역망. 한정된 지역에 국한되는 LAN과 달리
넓은 지역에 놓여진 컴퓨터나 각종 단말장치를 연결하는 네트워크를 말한다.
LAN을 연결하는 네트워크로도 사용된다.

Four other units in IA play an important role during the investigative phase of the
