My family went to a zoo on Children's Day.

The zoo is crowded with children.

What bus do I take to get to the zoo?

Where do I get off for the zoo? )

Zoos in New Orleans, San Diego, Detroit, and the Bronx have become
biological parks where animals roams freely and people watch from
across a moat.
New Orleans, San Diego, Detroit, and the Bronx

About 90 percent of the mammals now in United States
zoos are bred in captivity, and some are even being carefully
reintroduced to their native environs.

She stared, agape, at the many strange animals in the zoo.

Last Sunday I paid a visit to the zoo in Washington D.C.
I visited the monkeys first.
They were of various types from different parts of the world.
They were all very active, though they had been in their cages for a long time.
Then, we went to the places where the tigers and the lions were kept.
These animals did not seem to be active like the monkeys.
They were all lying down and looking at the visitors.

At the zoo, Simaba the lion was very sick.
The animal doctor came and tried giving him some red meat full of medicine.
Poor Simba did not even raise his head.
Finally, Simba stopped breathing.
The doctor said, with tears in his eyes, “I regret to tell you that Simba is dead.”
The little children were very shocked to hear it.
“I feel like I've lost an old friend.
I can remember reporting Simba's birth,” said a reporter.

On her second birthday, Jane was given a toy chimpanzee named Jubilee.
Jubilee was named after a baby chimp in the London Zoo and seemed to foretell the course Jane's life would take.
From an early age, Jane was fascinated by animals and animal stories.
By the age of 10, she began to talk about going to Africa to live among the animals there.
As a young woman, Jane attended secretarial school and then worked for a documentary film-maker for a while.
When a friend invited her to visit Kenya, she worked as a waitress to earn the fare to get there by boat.
Finally, at 23, her childhood dream was realized.

And occasionally, I like to take them to the zoo not far from my home.
They really enjoy identifying the animals they know only by pictures in the books.

Zoo animals feel safe because of the conviction that their cages are solid.

Most casual visitors to the zoo are convinced, as they stroll trom cage to cage,
that the funny gestures of the inmates are no more than a performance put on solely
for their entertainment. Unfortunately, however, nothing could be farther from the
truth than this view of the contented, playful caged animal.

Well fed, well housed, well cared for, and protected from its natural enemies,
the zoo animal in its Super-Welfare State existence is bored, sometimes
literally to death.

*treat 한턱내기; 향응 something that gives great pleasure or delight, especially when unexpected:
I took my son to the zoo as a birthday treat.

Some time ago, zoo officials in Kirby Misperton, England, had to pay
visitors for articles stolen by monkeys. But what puzzled them was
the favorite item the animals snatched: eyeglasses. An investigation
revealed the reason. The monkeys grabbed the glasses when visitors
leaned over to read a small sign of the wall of the cage.
The sign said: "Beware! These monkeys steal spectacles."

There are a lot of animals in the zoo ~ lion and snake, for example.

We had fun in the zoo.

It looks like rain, doesn't it?
I'm afraid it does.
The paper said it's going to be clear.
I sure hope so. I've promised to take my children to the zoo.
I hope the weather doesn't let them down.

As men and beasts get used to each other, kindness and understanding may
slowly develop on one side, trust on the other. Both sides would gain by
it. "After all," says a zoo director, "the zoological garden is the only
piece of 'wilderness' that most people will ever see ; while it does much
to protect the animals, it performs a valuable service for humanity
itself."
