After Germany and Austria lost World War Ⅰ, inflation ruined their economies.
The governments printed huge quantities of paper money.
Naturally, the more they issued, the more worthless it became.
By 1922, the money wasn't even worth the paper on which it was printed.
A clever Swiss soap maker bought up all the Austrian money that he could find.
He realized that it was just the right size needed to wrap his soap.
He printed the name of the soap on the blank side.
Then, he put his money-wrapped soap on the market and waited.
Just as he had hoped, his soap sales escalated.
Many buyers bought the soap, hoping that someday the “wrappers” would be worth just as much as they were before the war.
독일과 오스트리아가 제1차 세계대전에서 패전한 후 인플레이션 때문에 경제가 파탄되었다.
정부는 막대한 양의 지폐를 찍어내었다.
지폐를 많이 발행할수록 화폐 가치가 떨어지는 것은 당연했다.
1922년 무렵 지폐는 그 돈을 찍어내는 종이의 값어치도 되지 않았다.
어떤 영리한 스위스 비누 제조업자는 그가 발견할 수 있는 오스트리아 돈을 죄다 긁어모았다.
그는 돈이 자신의 비누 포장에 필요한 꼭 맞는 크기였음을 깨달았다.
그는 비누 이름을 돈의 여백에 인쇄하였다.
그러고 나서 그는 돈으로 포장한 비누를 시장에 내놓고 기다렸다.
그가 희망했었던 그대로 비누 판매액이 급증했다.
많은 구매자들은 언젠가는 그 “포장지”가 전쟁 전과 꼭 같은 가치를 가지게 될 것이라고 희망하면서 비누를 샀다.
