If you had to describe your life in a sentence, what would you say, Sir Richard?
He lived life to its full, I think.
Thanks so much.
Thanks very much.

T : I'll hand out these copies. Take one and pass the rest back.
Is there anyone who didn't get a copy?
S1 : I don't have one.
T : I'm afraid there aren't enough copies for everyone.
Min-ho, will you please share with Se-ho?
S2 : Yes, sir.

T : Let's listen to the tape. Min-ho, could you plug the cassette player in for me?
S1 : Yes, sir.
T : You're going to hear a dialogue about In-su's school life. Can you hear in the back?
S2 : No, I can't, Mr. Kim.
T : OK. I'll turn up the volume. Is the sound clear enough?
S1 : Yes, it is.
T : Good. The tape has started. Listen carefully.

T : This is the first time we are reading passages. For now, read the passage silently to yourselves.
S : Yes, Mr. Kim. (They read the passage silently.)
T : Now, I'll read first. Listen carefully.
S : Yes, sir. (They listen to the teacher carefully.)
T : Now, it's your turn. Let's read the text aloud together.
S : (They read the text.)
T : Good job. Now, I'll ask you to read the text aloud, one by one. Mi-ra, would you start with the first paragraph?
S : Sure. (Reading the first paragraph)
T : Stop there, please. Good job. Nam-su, will you continue reading from where Mi-ra stopped?

S : May I have a talk with you for a second?
T : What can I do for you?
S : I want to quit school.
T : I beg your pardon?
S : However hard I study, I always get everything wrong. I'm just not cut out for school.
T : I see, but ...
S : Since my grades are low, my friends are keeping their distance from me, and ...
T : You just can't quit school. Remember many big goals can't be achieved overnight. It takes time.
You've got to do things one step at a time.
S : Okay, sir.

S : Excuse me, Mrs. Oh.
T : Yes, Nam-su. Is anything wrong?
S : I've lost my wallet.
T : Too bad. What does it look like?
S : Well, it's brown leather.
T : Was it expensive?
S : Yes, sir.
T : Where did you leave it?
S : I'm sure I left it in my bag.
T : When did you lose it?
S : I haven't seen it since P.E. class.

Reporter : What is the basic aim of the course?
Goldstein : It is to equip students with the basic skills of diplomacy.
They should know which fork to use, for which course at a banquet anywhere in the world.
They should know how to organize a full-scale world summit.
Reporter : Are all the diplomats honest people, or are they liars?
Goldstein : “An ambassador is an honest man sent abroad to lie for his country.”
So said Sir Henry Wotton in the 16th century.
Nowadays, of course, the complete diplomat needs just a few more skills.

On the way home, the boy and his teacher reviewed every move in each and every match.
Then the boy summoned the courage to ask what was really on his mind.
Sir, how did I win the tournament with only one move?” “You won for one reason,” the teacher answered.
“You've almost mastered one of the most difficult throws in all of judo.
And the only known defense for that move is for your opponent to grab your left arm.”

Irish McCauley, at five-foot-two, was the smallest and most picked-on
boot in our platoon at Parris Island. The day he was caught with his hands
in the pockets of his fatigues, the drill instructor made him fill the
pockets with dirt so he'd be sure to keep his hands out. Next morning at
reveille when the platoon snapped to attention, the usually stern DI
suddenly doubled up with laughter. Glancing down the ranks, I saw McCauley
with daffodils protruding from every pocket. "They grew overnight, sir," he
solemnly assured the DI.

All great books contain boring portions, and all great lives have
contained uninteresting stretches. Imagine a modern publisher confronted
with the Old Testament as a new manuscript submitted to him for the
first time. It is not difficult to think what his comments would be,
for example, on the genealogists.
"Mr. dear sir," he would say, "this chapter lacks pep; you can't expect
your reader to be interested in a mere string of proper names of persons
about whom you tell him so little. You have begun your story, I will
admit, in fine style, and at first I was very favorably impressed, but
you have altogether too much wish to tell it all. Pick out the high
lights, take out the superfluous matter, and bring me back your
manuscript when you have reduced it to a reasonable length."

A science teacher was appointed to school in a remote village.
On his first day he talked about modern science and how it helps human
progress. He told about space craft and how man had walked on the moon.
When he finished his lecture, he asked if there were any questions.

a bus service through our village?"

David was a young man who worked in an office in a big city. His hobby
was trout fishing, but he did not often get a chance to practice it.
Then one summer he decided to have a holiday in a beautiful place in
the mountains where there were a lot of streams.
"I ought to be able to have some good fishing there," he said to himself.
The first morning after he arrived, he walked to the nearest stream
with his fishing-rod.
He saw an old man with his rod standing beside the water.
David said to him, "Good morning, sir. Is this a private stream?"
The old man answered that it was not.
David said, "Why don't you fish here with me, sir?"
The old man answered with a smile, "I should like to, but I'm sorry I can't."
David then said, "Well, it won't be a crime if I catch some fish here,
will it?"
"Oh, no," answered the old man, "it won't be a crime, but it will
certainly be a miracle."

Dear sir,
Application for the post of Personal Secretary I have seen your advertisement for the post of personal secretary (PS68) in today's Daily News.
I am very keen to apply for this position and therefore now have pleasure in enclosing a copy of my curriculum vitae for your consideration.
My main reason for wishing to change my present employment is that I wish to widen my experience and am anxious to work for a firm that is trading with Western Europe.
As you will be able to see from my C.V. , I studied English in London from 1989 to 1992 and so I believe I now have quite a good command of English.
I would also like to add my brother is currently attached to our trade delegation to the European Community in Brussels, and so I feel I am quite familier with the trading situation in Western Europe.
I am able to attend for interview at any time at your convenience, but would be grateful if you would give me two days' notice.
If you decide to appoint me, I must give my present employers one month's notice, but will then be able to take up my duties at once.
I assure you I will always do my best to prove entirely satisfactory.
With all good wishes,
Your faithfully,
Lilian Au Yeung(Miss)
Incls.

eat?
Are you ready to order? What would you like to have? May I take
your order?

A professor lectured for an hour on the dishonesty of certain
dictionary editors who omitted a word from the dictionary because of
moral objections. One's personal morality must never get in the way of
scholarship, he thundered. When the class was over, a student raised his
hand and asked, "But, sir, what was the word?" The professor flushed and
faltered. "I don't know," he said, "if... if the word is suitable for
female students to hear."
