두 부류로 나누어진다. 극히 보수적이고 율법주의자들인 정통파 유대교인들은
이스라엘의 독립과 건국이 무신론자들에 의해 주도된 것으로서 신학적으로
의미를 부여하지 않는다 이들은 유대 민족 국가의 재건이 유대교
율법(주로 구전법)에 의한 것도 아니고 메시아의 도래에 의한 것도 아니기 때문에
신앙적으로 아무 의미가 없다고 주장한다. 이들은 군 징집을 거부한다.
생활 용어는 히브리어보다 디아스포라에서 살 때 사용했던 이디쉬를 선호하며
세속 사회와 격려된 채 살아가고 있다
