The government seeks to prevent fraudulent and misleading advertising

palaver 잡담,수다,아첨 (discussion;misleading speech;chatter)
In spite of all the palaver before the meeting, the delegates were able to
conduct serious negotiations when they sat down at the conference table.

Her apocryphal tears misled no one.

His ambiguous instructions misled us; we did not know which road to take.

It is against the law to put out advertisement that misleads the public.

Let us not be misled by such specious arguments.

Youth is inspiration. One of the tragedies of the arts is the spectacle of
the vast number of persons who have been misled by this passing fertility
to devote their lives to the effort of creation. Their invention deserts
them as they grow older, and they are faced with the long years before
them in which, unfitted by now for a more humdrum calling, they harass
their wearied brain to beat out material it is incapable of giving them.
They are lucky when, with what bitterness we know, they can make a living
in ways, like journalism or teaching, that are allied to the arts.

It used to be said that the Englishman's home is his castle.
In so far as this saying creates the impression that there is something
defensive and inhospitable about the Englishman's home, it is quite
misleading; for there is no country where family life has been more
readily thrown open to friends, and even to strangers, than England.
It represents a certain truth, however, in the sense that the Englishman
hates to be interfered with, and prefers to live without too close a
contact with his neighbors.
He likes to be able to keep himself to himself if he wants to.
He is clubbable, but he is not too sociable.
That is to say he readily associates with those who are sympathetic
to him, but has no love for the kind of communal life which brings him
into constant touch with everybody and nobody.

*mislead 오도하다 lead wrongly; give a wrong idea to:
This information is rather misleading, give a wrong impression

### Misled -- Celine Dion ###

We had a rhythm
But I guess you never can tell
Oh I learned early
never to ignore the signs
You'll be forgiven
It ain't worth that much to my mind
Loving you so easy
It's hard to say goodbye
But if that's the way it goes
Just another page in my history
Just another one of those mysteries
One more lover that used to be
If you think you're in my head
You've been seriously misled

One thing that most organically grown food products seem to have in
common is that they cost more than conventionally grown foods. But in
many cases consumers are misled if they believe organic foods can
maintain health and provide better nutritional quality than
conventionally grown foods. So there is real cause for concern if
consumers, particularly those with limited incomes, distrust the regular
food supply and buy only expensive organic foods instead.

It's a stretch.
We're not misleading anyone.
He was the editor.
Did you call for a comment?

Most of the advertisements contained expressions such as "prevention of hair loss," "hair growth," "suppression of hormones," "recovering the scalp," "increasing hair thickness," and "skin diseases such as atopy," which misled people to think that the products are medicines.

The IMF gave Russia the first $640 million installment of the $4.5
billion rescue loan in July, and was to have released a second payment
in September.
However, the fund put the second payment of $640 million
on hold after the Group of Seven industrialized countries determined
that the Russian government had given misleading information about the
use of previous IMF loans.

Trade Body Chief Deplores Fake WTO Web Sites
World Trade Organization Director-General Mike Moore on Tuesday
accused opponents of the body who have set up fake WTO Web sites of
deliberately misleading people seeking information on its activities.
Dozens of such Web sites on the Internet have been created in the run-up
to the WTO's Ministerial Conference in Seattle from November 30 to
December 3 during which thousands of protesters are planning to
demonstrate.
The sites lead surfers to others where the WTO is denounced as an
``instrument of imperialism'' or ``a tool of capitalist oppression'' in
a campaign some trade envoys have likened to disinformation efforts by
the KGB, the old Soviet intelligence service.

``These settlements will ensure that consumers are no longer being
misled by unsubstantiated claims about these products,'' said Jodie
Bernstein, director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection. ``And
they will also help remind marketers of their responsibility to back up
all advertising promises.''

We've gotta wage a war against terrorism in the board room, against misleading investors.
