spoke with James about the possiblity of distributing one of
your titles, THE HAUNTED MANSION by Jan Haltman, here in
Korea.

'~ 맨션'(mansion) 이라고 하면 으레 미국 사람들은 대저택을 상상합니다.
우리 나라에서는 보통 아파트라고 할 지라고 '~ 맨션' 이라고 이름을
붙이는 경우가 많이 있지요.
우리가 얘기하는 아파트와 미국의 아파트는 어떤 개념적 차이가 있을
까요? 먼저 아파트라고 하는 명칭은 apartment 라고 얘기를 합니다.
그런데 미국에서는 기업 소유의 임대 아파트만을 apartment 라고 합니
다. 그리고 개인이 분양하는 아파트는 condominium 이라고 얘기를 합
니다. 그러니까 우리 나라처럼 대부분 개인이 분양하는 임대 아파트는
condominium 이라고 해야 미국 사람들이 이해를 합니다. 미국의 아파
트에는 가구가 구비 된 것과 그렇지 않은 것으로 구별이 되고 침실의
갯수에 따라서 one bedroom apartment, two bedroom apartment로 나뉘
지요. 참고로 우리나라의 원룸 아파트처럼 부억과 침실의 구분이 없이
트인 주거 형태는 studio라고 합니다.
